  1. Yes, I saw that, odd isn't it? There's already a non return valve on the servo. I had a look around the internet and the reasoning was all a bit woolly some say it aids the servo vacuum. I might fit one, see if it improves anything. I go to the Thames and the East Berks club meetings and no one owned up to having a secondary valve. The fuel trap is a good idea though, stopped my vacuum gauge clogging up. What car do you have? Mine's a late GT6 mk3 non rotoflex. On these a Girling servo was fitted as standard. Girling don't have a good reputation and many people swap them for Lockheed even if they're not broken. Doug
  2. And another thing! There are two brackets holding mine, the large angled back plate and a bracing strap attached to the servo slave cylinder. With just the back plate mine did bounce around a bit. You really don't want your brake pipes flexing so I attached the bracing strap which came with the kit. I'm not sure if yours has the strap if it's facing forward so maybe sideways is best.
  3. Here's the Lockheed installation document, I hope! The servo tilts upwards so as you don't get air trapped in the servo slave cylinder when you bleed the brakes. It's between 20 and 45 degrees if memory serves, so it's not super critical. I made cardboard triangles to check I'd got it right and mines only just over 20 degrees. I can't see that slightly less will make a lot of difference. All you have to do is bend the bracket. The air intake has to go downwards also to aid bleeding. I had a Girling which I've replaced with a Lockheed so the mounting holes are in different places, yours may be the same. Mine sits sideways across the bulkhead, I mean slave cylinder parallel to the windscreen but I have seen others at right angles, it doesn't matter. RemoteServo.pdf

    Age of engine

http://www.triumphspitfire.com/History.html If the engine number matched the commission number, it's a 67 mk3?
  5. I keep meaning to get down there, to sample one of the breakfasts Andy Cook enthuses about, I bet that was his GT6? I get up at the crack of 09.30 these days and thought I'd be too late but Andy assures me the breakfasts are available all day. So maybe next time.
  6. My GT6 was duffed up and re-sprayed, the only Triumph in an MG specialist garage. They were jolly nice chaps and very fond of my car. But, there are knob wits everywhere, even in Triumphs sometimes!
  7. Could it be vacuum in the fuel tank due to a blocked breather pipe? Get it to do it gain, open the fuel cap, is there a woosh? I had similar issues over a shorter distance which turned out to be crud in the fuel line. I rodded it out with plastic strimmer wire. A see-through fuel filter will give you a clue as to what's going on with the fuel.
  8. Other threads on here suggest the stainless bumpers are A OK. Uncle Pete thinks the chrome wiper arms are TOO shiny so I'm leaning towards stainless.
  9. Voltage regulator under £10 on Ebay screw fit, dead easy. Diode pack the same but needs soldering.
  10. The GT6 has a Delco I think the 2.5 PI has a Lucas. For some reason the electronic ignition for Delco is always more expensive than Lucas.
  11. Have you got the right one? http://www.aldonauto.co.uk/shop/product.asp?strParents=118&CAT_ID=39&P_ID=93 Plus VAT = £132 Club shop £126 Still, if it's out of stock, you ain't got no choice!
  12. Beware of cheap kits especially for 6 cylinders. The Aldon from the club shop is specifically for Delco distributors and GT6 ballasted systems. It needed no additional wiring, on mine anyway, others kits do. Reassuringly expensive but, it works. My car runs very much better since fitting it.
  13. A Rusting of Triumphs?
  14. A socket set will be a good investment!
  15. Yes, I'm with you, I draw the line at that 123 ignition stuff, a computer? In a Triumph?!! But if Triumph were still making cars, I'd have one, wouldn't you? I quite like those Audi TTs, hatch back, ridiculous rear seat, if only there were a straight six version, what does it remind me of?
  16. "They wouldn’t be making a 1960s car in 2015,so it’s a moot point" My point was it would be updated, as the Volkswagen Beetle has been?
  17. I vote for upgrade! I had a windscreen go early on in my ownership, it cracked from top to bottom, scary, not like a modern screen. If I bought an old one the screen would be the first thing to come under scrutiny. Inertial reel seat belts, what's not to like? Alternator, electronic ignition, better shockers, polybushes, YES! What would Triumph be doing if they were still making them?
  18. I rather like A Skuppernong. As we all know Skuppernong is a variety of grape with a sub species called Triumph.
  19. Got to stop drinking that Old Peculiar, it's affecting my vision!
  20. I told you, I'm a skinflint!
  21. Great East Berks meeting last night at the Shire Horse. 12 cars, I think! We got them all artistically arranged on a large triangle of grass, even the punters were taking photos. In fact everyone except me, no camera, damn! Hope someone is gonna post some pics!
  22. In the immortal words of Steffi Graff when a spectator shouted "Will you marry me?" She replied "How much money do you haff?" If your a skinflint like me, repair it. If you've got the dosh get a newer model with a warranty. The increased output is not a problem. You can do the starter motor from the top. Easiest to take off air filters and side panel (if you have it!). Once you've got it off clean up the shaft but, do not grease or oil it, this attracts crud and makes it worse than before. I'm told graphite, pencil lead, is good to lubricate it.
  23. This may not be the one for your alternator but this is what it looks like and how much it costs. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALTERNATOR-RECTIFIER-FOR-LUCAS-15-16-17-18-ACR-see-notes-in-advert-REF-3923-/111573978155?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19fa53cc2b
  24. Woo! Hoo! I'll discuss with the lads down the Shire Horse tonight!
  25. Here is an interesting link, a bit rambling but 2/3 of the way down he suggests a much lower resistance on the alternator. http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/trbl_alt.html I believe if a diode is gone in the diode pack you get a higher resistance. I had to replace my diode pack (my son-in-law reversed charged my battery! Bang!) It's an easy enough job.
