  1. Was the battery stone dead flat? Many chargers will not charge a completely dead battery. This just happened to me, I left the door open and the interior light flattened the battery over winter. The only way to fix it is put the battery in parallel with the one in the modern. Leave it an hour, disconnect and then attach the charger. Back to normal.
  2. I've just been out on the drive fitting electronic ignition. A man in a white transit stuck his head out his window and started asking questions. What car is it? Age? Colour? Condition? I'm suspicious he may be back after dark! I'm also thinking tracking device.
  3. Doig?!! Still could be worse. I used to work with some Russians who used to call me Dog! Didn't feel I could correct them really, them being Russian and all!
  4. http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Windshield.html Let us know how you get on, I've got a windscreen leak and mine's got to come out. Not looking forward to it!
  5. When I was an apprentice I had a Saturday job in a record/music shop. Some of the early Floyd used to come in, from time to time, and I remember one of them buying a single guitar string and asking for a VAT receipt.
  6. The Universal joint is in the "dotted box" on the diagram it's labelled GUJ115. They're quite cheap, around £10. If it was me I'd do both sides even if the other side seems OK. It's quite an easy job, I remember doing one on the road under the Hammersmith flyover!
  7. Oh right, stupid off me! Mind you I can see 8 wireless nodes down my street and at the weekend, when they're all in use, mine's dog slow. I think we are all on the same blade at the exchange.
  8. Aidan, I have books and I have a Kindle, both equally good but the Kindle has the added bonus of not having hundreds of additional books about the place gathering dust. Unsure as to why your location has a bearing on the loveliness of the Inter-web?
  9. Spitfire mk XIV had a 5 blade prop http://www.military-history.org/articles/world-war-2/battle-of-britain/6-unusual-spitfire-adaptations.htm Picture 6, at the bottom.
  10. I notice my description on a recent post says "Newbie", my location, "Member" and "0 Warning points". What is 0 Warning points? Nobody else seems to have this, am I on probation?
  11. I miss the spotted section from the old web site. I've seen half a dozen Triumphs, new to me, in the last few months but no where to tell anyone. Not many cars on the old spotted link were claimed, "Hey that was me!" And, It always gave me an optimistic feeling that there were more Triumphs out there just waiting to be reeled into the club.
  12. I had a modern where the electrics to the fans failed. Had a quote of £500 to fix it! So I wired up a switch to the dashboard to turn the fans on and off, £5. I was surprised to find I didn't need the fans at all on the motorway or even in slow moving traffic. Only in a stationary queue for more than 10 minutes did I need to turn the fans on. On the other hand didn't the Spitfire aeroplane upgrade from a 4 blade to a 5 blade prop?
  13. Started using additive when I got my car back on the road. Had some problems getting the mixture right so took a plug out to see if it was biscuit, brown or black stained. None of those! PINK! So can't use that test again until I've got rid of the additive flavoured fuel.
  14. The weak link in the circuit is the switch. You turn it on and off and with all the current going through it you get oxidisation. Oxidisation brings resistance and voltage drop across the switch. Not to mention the switch getting seriously hot.
