  1. Thanks Clive! Where did all the years go (67 )? I went to see my Dad on his 70th and found him underneath his car changing the exhaust. "You can't trust these quick fit people!" He told me. I think I might be doing the same shortly, although stainless I think my exhaust is blowing. Nothing lasts, it's only 30 years old!
  2. I went to East Berks club meeting at the Shire Horse earlier this week and in the car park was a recovery vehicle, just sitting, waiting. I moved my car to where I could see it from inside the pub and sat facing the window. I'm getting paranoid.
  3. Anthony, As well as TSSC I am also a member of Club Triumph and they have several French owners who comment on their forum. I don't think you even have to be a member to do so. There are also Belgians, Ozzies, Kiwis and Yanks.
  4. I have one cranked and one straight, I always thought this was wrong but I'm pleased to learn they're correct! They meet in the middle OK but unfortunately despite being fairly new, from the club shop, they have little effect on the windscreen. I was wondering if stronger springs would be of benefit? Academic really as I never go out in the rain.
  5. My GT6 had sag on both sides when I first got it, turned out half the leaves were broken in the rear spring! Easy to change though, no rotoflex!
  6. I believe your right, although I quite like the colour on a spitfire but I think I'm the only one! Andy Cooke has a Dolomite he calls the "flying log" and he doesn't mean a tree!
  7. Chris, from the dvla web site: https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ UPO291T is taxed until 1/7/15 and is officially red. Doug
  8. A cut and paste listing then. Installation was however quite easy, for a man of my candelabra.
  9. Alan, That's OK I used to work with a bunch of Russian engineers who mispronounced me Dog. But, it's best not to argue with Russians! The tool I was referring to is mentioned here, there is a link within this link. http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Windshield.html Doug
  10. Just checked it out on the dvla web site https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ It looks OK, the colour's right however the MOT runs out on 5/3/15. I notice the battery has no restraining strap which is an MOT fail. I think those are SU carbs rather than Strombergs. Road springs look bit corroded/tatty, I got an advisory for that on my last MOT!
  11. Thanks Alan! There's a special tool for the windscreen surround.
  12. John completely agree with you! But being a lazy b****r I wondered if anyone who's done it can give some details. I'm happy with electrics, I've just installed this on my GT6. Extraordinary low price but reasonable quality and only a few mods required. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111466280732?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  13. Yes, agree with the above. My servo's failed and been fixed, broken again and replaced and failed again! Fixed, braking is marginally easier but it makes no difference to braking distance. I'm happy with it as it is and disinclined to get it fixed again.
  14. Mine car was 5 years old when I bought it and the clamp was satin black. It got lost some years ago and was recently replaced with a shine stainless steel one when I realized no clamp is an MOT fail! Interested to hear about your fuse box upgrade, the original is a very poor design and I have something better to replace it. However it's only a maximum of four fuses and I'm wondering if I should go for something with a few more. I would love to know what you've done and maybe some pictures?
  15. Well, there's moulded or ordinary. Moulded are the easiest to fit and are available from Rimmers, TSSC shop and the usual suspects. I think the moulded all come from the same source so it's just a question of price. So probably TSSC. some advertise different sets for rotoflex and non rotoflex and, for the GT6, the luggage area carpet is extra as there are different ones for each of the MKs. I think the quality of the moulded is not so good, reminded me of a pan scourer, get a sample from the TSSC shop and see what you think. You can get much better quality with the ordinary carpet but, more expensive, more difficult to fit and the major difficulty is the wheel arches. How do you curve and fix the carpet in two planes to get it looking reasonable? I'm thinking my wheel arch carpet is not badly worn, only faded. So I might get the ordinary carpet and dye my existing wheel arches. A good supplier of ordinary carpet is Coverdale, www.carcarpets.co.uk They will also send samples.
  16. We currently have a thread "Show us your car" which is now three pages long. Surely this should be a section rather than a thread? I've added my car to it today but, trying to find the thread again is tortuous.
  17. That's me on the right. Checking the oil & wondering why the rocker box hasn't been painted yet.
  18. Eurocarparts were the cheapest when I replaced my 063, Exide, 4 year guarantee, £39.
  19. Was the battery stone dead flat? Many chargers will not charge a completely dead battery. This just happened to me, I left the door open and the interior light flattened the battery over winter. The only way to fix it is put the battery in parallel with the one in the modern. Leave it an hour, disconnect and then attach the charger. Back to normal.
  20. I've just been out on the drive fitting electronic ignition. A man in a white transit stuck his head out his window and started asking questions. What car is it? Age? Colour? Condition? I'm suspicious he may be back after dark! I'm also thinking tracking device.
  21. Doig?!! Still could be worse. I used to work with some Russians who used to call me Dog! Didn't feel I could correct them really, them being Russian and all!
  22. http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Windshield.html Let us know how you get on, I've got a windscreen leak and mine's got to come out. Not looking forward to it!
  23. When I was an apprentice I had a Saturday job in a record/music shop. Some of the early Floyd used to come in, from time to time, and I remember one of them buying a single guitar string and asking for a VAT receipt.
