  1. Just checked it out on the dvla web site https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ It looks OK, the colour's right however the MOT runs out on 5/3/15. I notice the battery has no restraining strap which is an MOT fail. I think those are SU carbs rather than Strombergs. Road springs look bit corroded/tatty, I got an advisory for that on my last MOT!
  2. Thanks Alan! There's a special tool for the windscreen surround.
  3. John completely agree with you! But being a lazy b****r I wondered if anyone who's done it can give some details. I'm happy with electrics, I've just installed this on my GT6. Extraordinary low price but reasonable quality and only a few mods required. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111466280732?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  4. Yes, agree with the above. My servo's failed and been fixed, broken again and replaced and failed again! Fixed, braking is marginally easier but it makes no difference to braking distance. I'm happy with it as it is and disinclined to get it fixed again.
  5. Mine car was 5 years old when I bought it and the clamp was satin black. It got lost some years ago and was recently replaced with a shine stainless steel one when I realized no clamp is an MOT fail! Interested to hear about your fuse box upgrade, the original is a very poor design and I have something better to replace it. However it's only a maximum of four fuses and I'm wondering if I should go for something with a few more. I would love to know what you've done and maybe some pictures?
  6. Well, there's moulded or ordinary. Moulded are the easiest to fit and are available from Rimmers, TSSC shop and the usual suspects. I think the moulded all come from the same source so it's just a question of price. So probably TSSC. some advertise different sets for rotoflex and non rotoflex and, for the GT6, the luggage area carpet is extra as there are different ones for each of the MKs. I think the quality of the moulded is not so good, reminded me of a pan scourer, get a sample from the TSSC shop and see what you think. You can get much better quality with the ordinary carpet but, more expensive, more difficult to fit and the major difficulty is the wheel arches. How do you curve and fix the carpet in two planes to get it looking reasonable? I'm thinking my wheel arch carpet is not badly worn, only faded. So I might get the ordinary carpet and dye my existing wheel arches. A good supplier of ordinary carpet is Coverdale, www.carcarpets.co.uk They will also send samples.
  7. We currently have a thread "Show us your car" which is now three pages long. Surely this should be a section rather than a thread? I've added my car to it today but, trying to find the thread again is tortuous.
  8. That's me on the right. Checking the oil & wondering why the rocker box hasn't been painted yet.
  9. Eurocarparts were the cheapest when I replaced my 063, Exide, 4 year guarantee, £39.
  10. Was the battery stone dead flat? Many chargers will not charge a completely dead battery. This just happened to me, I left the door open and the interior light flattened the battery over winter. The only way to fix it is put the battery in parallel with the one in the modern. Leave it an hour, disconnect and then attach the charger. Back to normal.
  11. I've just been out on the drive fitting electronic ignition. A man in a white transit stuck his head out his window and started asking questions. What car is it? Age? Colour? Condition? I'm suspicious he may be back after dark! I'm also thinking tracking device.
  12. Doig?!! Still could be worse. I used to work with some Russians who used to call me Dog! Didn't feel I could correct them really, them being Russian and all!
  13. http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Windshield.html Let us know how you get on, I've got a windscreen leak and mine's got to come out. Not looking forward to it!
  14. When I was an apprentice I had a Saturday job in a record/music shop. Some of the early Floyd used to come in, from time to time, and I remember one of them buying a single guitar string and asking for a VAT receipt.
  15. The Universal joint is in the "dotted box" on the diagram it's labelled GUJ115. They're quite cheap, around £10. If it was me I'd do both sides even if the other side seems OK. It's quite an easy job, I remember doing one on the road under the Hammersmith flyover!
  16. Oh right, stupid off me! Mind you I can see 8 wireless nodes down my street and at the weekend, when they're all in use, mine's dog slow. I think we are all on the same blade at the exchange.
  17. Aidan, I have books and I have a Kindle, both equally good but the Kindle has the added bonus of not having hundreds of additional books about the place gathering dust. Unsure as to why your location has a bearing on the loveliness of the Inter-web?
  18. Spitfire mk XIV had a 5 blade prop http://www.military-history.org/articles/world-war-2/battle-of-britain/6-unusual-spitfire-adaptations.htm Picture 6, at the bottom.
  19. I notice my description on a recent post says "Newbie", my location, "Member" and "0 Warning points". What is 0 Warning points? Nobody else seems to have this, am I on probation?
  20. I miss the spotted section from the old web site. I've seen half a dozen Triumphs, new to me, in the last few months but no where to tell anyone. Not many cars on the old spotted link were claimed, "Hey that was me!" And, It always gave me an optimistic feeling that there were more Triumphs out there just waiting to be reeled into the club.
  21. I had a modern where the electrics to the fans failed. Had a quote of £500 to fix it! So I wired up a switch to the dashboard to turn the fans on and off, £5. I was surprised to find I didn't need the fans at all on the motorway or even in slow moving traffic. Only in a stationary queue for more than 10 minutes did I need to turn the fans on. On the other hand didn't the Spitfire aeroplane upgrade from a 4 blade to a 5 blade prop?
  22. Started using additive when I got my car back on the road. Had some problems getting the mixture right so took a plug out to see if it was biscuit, brown or black stained. None of those! PINK! So can't use that test again until I've got rid of the additive flavoured fuel.
  23. The weak link in the circuit is the switch. You turn it on and off and with all the current going through it you get oxidisation. Oxidisation brings resistance and voltage drop across the switch. Not to mention the switch getting seriously hot.
