Door card installation

I recently removed the door cards from my Vitesse to spray some anti-rust paint into the lower area of the doors.  There is no rust in there, but I was just trying to be proactive.  Reinstalling the door cards is not an easy task, is it?  Is there any “trick” to doing this?  Is there a newer alternative to the awkward assembly of the spring and the little pin that goes through the window winder and door handles?

only if you make some other diy design  

always postion the spring with the small dia   up to the spindle  with the wider dia  on the door card   

this should allow enough clearance when you press the card inward to insert the pin and then let the escutcheon to pop back and hold the pins in place

it was a common design for so many other makes its not just Triumph

Yes needs a bit of practice but quite doable. Might need needle nose pliers to hold the pin if youve got sausage fingers😁 Of course make sure the pin fits both handle and spindle holes before assembling...

I think my pin was tapered as it only went in fully from one end. It's one of those jobs that you need three hands......

Always found it easier to put a longer pin. Parallel Punch mandrel of pop rivet etc.. part way through the hole then as you insert the pin in from the other side it pushes the temporary one out.

then you have two pins on the grass   Ha ! 

the original pins did have a small chamfer at one end to aid fitting    or loosing

I still have a length of s/s steel rod, about 3/32dia, if I recall?. For making replacements. I lost that many on an “old” car.😭 push the rod in and cut with a junior hacksaw. 😃

What cut in situ? Youve got to be so careful you dont nick the plastic bezel or even worse the door card😰

this is one of the easiest jobs   heaven knows what we get suggested for   something difficult
