daverclasper
Hi folks. Vitesse Mk1 2Litre, The nearside wheel/tyre (185 width) looks like it sticks out a bit from the side of the wing/wheel arch. There looks to be about 1/2" difference compared to the offside (which looks to be just inside the wing). Any pointers on this regarding steering/suspension etc. All the bushes look bulging/perished and I have a kit to replace when I have some time. The car has been restored at some time with a lot of new panels I think. So maybe, badly fitted bonnet panels/bulk head etc?. Any advice great thanks. Cheers, Dave
Darren Groves
Check the camber, see if they are wildly different.
daverclasper
Cheers Darren Never done this before. Was thinking. Get the front of car on level ground. 13" length of wood placed vertical to edges of wheel rim and a small boat level against wood to get an idea?. Thanks Dave
Darren Groves
I have one of these: http://www.gunson.co.uk/product/77066, but your method should at least give you an idea if they are roughly the same.
Colin Lindsay
As a simple check, take measurements from data points on both sides to the chassis rails - just pick matching seams or bolts on suspension components and bulkhead / bonnet outer edges to the edge of the chassis; also from the top of the suspension turrets to the same point on either side. This will let you know if anything is off-line, for example if the chassis is twisted, if the bulkhead has been incorrectly fitted, or if there is a mis-match in components or shimming - it may possibly be just one wider wheel than the other? Swap the wheels over and see if the problem is still on that side.
Casper
Is a long driveshaft a possibility? C.
JohnD
You can make your own camber gauge from a piece of lat sheet, and a plumb bob. Use it on a bare hub as shown or else just rested against the wheel rim. John

daverclasper
Hi. Just one thing. I'm assuming camber is measured at normal driving position, therefore If using the disc as a reference point, then is a jack placed under suspension before taking wheel off. JohnD
No need to remove wheel. Use the top and bottom of the wheel rim John
Ben Caswell
Are all the wheels the same offset ??
Pete Lewis
Dont forget that the vitesse spec for geometry is done with 150 lbs on each seat to get the static ride height
