Hi Roger, I hadn't quite twigged which part of Spain you are in - I would have recommended a little detour to here:  https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Mirador+Bardena+Blanca/@42.1740994,-1.5365199,4658m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0xd57a0250fea2fcf:0xe44f6fa553a71ca4!2sSomport!3b1!8m2!3d42.7984753!4d-0.5318276!3m4!1s0xd5a4085f288a6d7:0x83d3f6b5c12253b0!8m2!3d42.1805747!4d-1.5299803

Which is easily accessible in the Spitfire, though are unmetalled roads.

looks lovely, enjoying the journey! How did the EFI cope with the altitude?

cheers

Hello mike

                   At 3500 ft it's 14.5 to 15 afr 4000 15 to 16 and 5000 17 to 18 all at tick over 800/1000 rpm

So I need to adjust the baro settings a bit so not so lean

But the car pulled ok and meter is difficult to see when moving

I have a small lap top I may have a look at setting tomorrow night

Roger

P s bought drop of Rosada (2 lt = 3 euro!)

Thanks. seems to be working correcting the mixture well, it can always be tweaked a bit to stop it going too lean. :)

It's fairly well known in classic car circles that high altitude results in rich running and the carbs need to be leaned off. What's much less well known is that "speed density" (i.e. manifold pressure based) fuel injection goes the other way. At altitude it correctly measures the absolute air pressure but under-estimates the volumetric efficiency, thus running lean. The altitude compensation on such a system has to richen the mixture up.

Speed-throttle, of course, goes rich at altitude. Mass air flow meter systems generally need less compensation as the hot-wire meters read fairly accurately across a wide range of pressures.

Rich - lean- rich-lean-rich-lean.

That about sums up a day's driving in the Pyrenees then?

In one day at the beginning of June we started at Vielha at 2080 metres finishing near Bordeaux at around 80 metres.

Never mind the mixture for the car, enjoy the scenery and pay attention to your own 'mixture" intake. :D

You're not in the Paradore by any chance are you? The view looks familiar from memory, we were there 1st to 3rd June.

Depending on your route you will have passed the bar of 2000 metres.

Good food in the Paradore restaurant. The town its self was badly damaged a few years ago by major flooding but is sorted now.

The first time we stayed there must have been in the mid 80s, before we left the UK, and RODE (Moto Guzzi Spada) from Surrey and crossed the Pyrenees on either the 2nd or 3rd April. Big mistake overtaking snow plough :). As I sais to Mrs Me - Michelin map shows the pass as being open from 1st of April, I just wanted to go over the pas for the view.

Coming down towards Vielha I remember seeing a car parked pointing towards the pass with the driver fitting snow chains. He looked at us on the bike, looked at what he was doing then looked at his chains again. :D

No doubt you'll be hitting the Rosada again this evening.

Hello All

In Andorra now we came over the Port De Bonaigua pass 2072 m 6750 ft and the coll del Canto 1720 m 5600 ft

I decided to leave settings as they are as I could not remember which way to later it!

She was only a bit lean at 2072 16/16.5 at 1000 rpm but not so lean at other revs but driving her easy so no worries

Roger

That's the pass we took at the beginning of June, it is fantastic.

Did you note the height of the poles at the side of the road, shows you how deep snow is in winter.

When we did it on the Guzzi snow was that deep, completely changed the landscape.

Enjoy Andorra, if you can, take it easy in the shops. When we are in that area we stay at the Paradore in La Seu d'Urgell.
