griffipaul
Sprayed valences and turrets recently with Halfords satin / gloss black , seems not to be petrol resistant. Anybody else noticed or formed a view.
NonMember
Most cheap paint is not petrol resistant. You need a better quality paint such as an engine enamel or some versions of chassis black.

Mark B
You get a similar reaction on cellulose paint if left to dry on the surface. I was able to polish it out using T cut on my cars paint. I noticed it on the chassis after changing fuel pipe. Mark
Graham C
Yes, I have come across the same problem. Two years ago removed clutch and brake M/ C brackets and repainted the bulkhead. Replaced petrol rubber pipe that year then last year started the car and petrol sprayed back out of one of the pipes onto the bulk head and removed the paint very quickly. Water based spray paints and ethanol petrol do not mix, never had this before. The old spray can paints did not react with petrol so must be modern day components. For the valence can you get away with Hammerstein. I will quickly hide now for other to complain about Hammerstein. Graham

Even Hammerite isn't a great finish either.

Colin Lindsay
Lol happens to us all! Hammerite is ok - up to a point - but I never liked it. I used a great paint a few years back - PJ1 Fastblack - which they claim is 'Porcelain hard' and I must admit that once it's on nothing seems to touch it. I used it extensively a few years back with gloss black over for the shine (The PJ1 I used is matt) and it's lasted very well on my 1200 side valences. You can get matt, gloss, engine and case paint and exhaust paint up to a variety of temperatures.
dougbgt6
I used Hammerite yellow on my floor pans, extraordinarily it's almost mimosa yellow, but as no one's going to see it under the carpets, almost is fine. Doug
