  1. Well done colin, guess its linked to BA or whatever The olde box of buttons and black hole IT all to make life .........easier Its called progress !!!
  2. You can change the top shocker bushes with car on its wheels there is no spring load in the shocker shaft, undo the nuts and push shaft down below the turret extract the bush through the spring coils fit new onto the shaft and pull ot up thro the turret hole fit top bush and washer and nuts dont jack it up a little will open the coils , but dont unload the spring or you will need to geta spring compressor to re assy the spring and shocker I have a compressor for our area if you need or prefer to drop the coil unit off the car pete you, need thin fingers
  3. its to keep engine sump splash oil from entering the lower chamber or you get oil leaking out the small lower case breather hole so it tends to be a rubber washer that fits on the diaphragm pull shaft. bear in mind one kit doesnt fit all pumps there are a wide variety of pumps and evolutions about. its a baffle washer rather than a 'oil seal'
  4. bit like getting brown tea , builders cuppa stuff, all sorts of colours flavours and insipid stuff but tea seems to be now an environmentally useless hooch for yuppies or greenies happened to get the white vinegar from Sainsbugs we dont have a posh supermarket like waitrose up ere. but a new Aldi is only 300yds away ( i didnt look there)
  5. ive been fighting the smeary deposits on the windscreen on my Picasso for a while even the pole's wash n wax locally does not last without all the wipe marks appearing next day so windolene ,autoglym ,halfords, turtle wax, thinners and water , brake cleaner, newspaper, neat screen wash, all have been rubbish but white vinegar wins hands down ...its worked a treat so what do you use ???????????????????????????????????? Pete
  6. were off to sunny york moors on saturday , by then it will probably hail thunder storm and tempest but in picasso and not in the triumph Pete
  7. This is a great lesson in making a relaxed meal out of a nightmare keep it up Roger , your holoday is just round the corner good luck with the courier and replacement shaft, you seem to have this all well organised think we all do a hats off for the guys helping you its more interesting than top gear pete
  8. and thats with silly tablet spelling and thumble finger key pad crap. I did a spiel on using stag bell cranked expanders on the 2000 these are 15mm longer didnt really add to travel but by heck better low effort hand brake lever . to extend the lever length on the weeny lever & pins on H,V,S,GT that sit on the backplate i wonder if adding more effort through them would over load them , as back plate and wheel cylinders seem to suffer here
  9. Aha thke fulcrum lever is the pivoting lever above the prop shaft, moving holes increases or decreases the advantage this is not he bacl plate lever pete
  10. if you short the sender wire to the block and the gauge moves then its a new sender 1500 has slow moving needles and stabilised supply then its a GTR108 sender if nothing happens then its gauge in trouble, does the fuel gauge work OK ? should be at triumfest but blocked by fathers day , now thats gone bottoms up ....but the suns out Pete
  11. John does it with bonnet on, have a kook bCk at his pictures it doenst take much to remove the bonnet , then access is very easy all down to preference and the need of a adjustable balance bar if not and on on a fixed beam then bonnet off and push car backwards as you extract it frontways
  12. May be a quick finger test on the trunion will tell which side is the hottest if its making a pong and a noise then some extra heat , more than normal should point to the culprit if its hub bearing you need a press or hub puller .....to get the hub flange off, they either fall off or become joined for life. you can hammer the shaft out off the bearing , the bearing is a push fit in the trunion hsg . have you checked the diff oil level ?. pete
  13. The speedo drive housing is actually an eccentric so it would allow more or less toothed pinions apart from its mesh position is controlled by the spigot bolt hole and the assy is fixed in the adaptor by the cant be removed mills pin so its adjustable but NOT. pete
  14. having just removed a D type speedo pinion can confirm its 15T Pete
  15. on the SGY tank you can see the three well defined lugs. yours seems lost/ hidden /disappeared/Over used can you re form them with moles, club hammer, boy scout scouts penknife , or whatever ??? it should bend a bit to improve what you have and the aftermarket rubber rings are not fit fr purpose the grow in petrol, so whilst they look like a ring they dont have the specifications on the drawings same problems as TRE boots cylinder rubbers antirolls , pedal rubbers etc so what do modern car builders use they get it right, down to volume and being cheap or better profit would classic jag and aston owners have these crap rubber parts anyone know ??? just off to solve Gully's professional rebuilt gearbox OD pumping oil on the road gearbox . its been back twice ...exspurts again ex..... the unknowing and........... spurt a drip under pressure well the suns out and good for Triumfest sorry cant be there have a good day
  16. It can be a fiddle to get engine height and sump angle just enough to get ot out being a ME wont affect it, if sump has a splash gauze that can foul up on the oil pump yes its a right fiddle pete
  17. Support the back of the sump area , seats out and steering wheel off all helps access Getting the clutch hsg out from unnder the baulkhead can need a bit of fiddle, tip on refit I use a long wooden leaver to lift agaist the chassis which lets you lift and wiggle the unit back in have two long studs to fit in the back of the block top holes to help aligning, and tip ...use any odd bit of wood or whatever to use to judge the gap to the back plate just to help visualise the gbox is || to the engine so you lift lower the engine to pop it on its easy to get |\ and then you struggle to engage the flywheel spigot do not let the box hang on the clutch disc Do you have a disc aligning tool, or make one from tube and tape ??
  18. Looking at your pictue the tank ring is badly formed there should be three well defined lugs that let the dimples in the loose ring fit so when you fit and rotate then ring the bayonet idea rides down the ramp and clamps the sender in place up against its seal its popping out indicates the lugs are not kept in place , the ring looks smaller than the tank rim .....all a bit past its best On the line there would be a three pronged claw to twist the ring equally, all we can do is tap it tomthe end of the ramps, but then it pops out !! The tank looks to be your problem so the tank rim needs some rework, no sparks though
  19. You can if you want to, fit new bridge and wooden wedges with engine in car with just sump off most bridge thread failures are down to too long bolts bottomed out or simple over tightening pete
  20. yes the stop is the back of the spherical housing nut/ collar abuting the rack tube tape measure the rods to make sure they are the same lengths from the manual between the tre and inner spherical centres is 8.715" both sides back stop to inner spherical centre is 1.42" back stop to tube end is 3.325"
  21. With the wheels ahead Both rods must be the same length from the TRE centre to the centre of the gaitor covered spherical easy to pop a TRE off the steering arm, undo nutq a good few turns and witha decent hammer strike the arm on its end , yes clout the hole not the tre.and thentape jumps out. I agree with colin we all try to answer but we do have a life as well. so slow down , solutions will arrive , maybe when the suns gone down let us know how you get on
  22. D Type Speedo Pinion 16 Tooth to fit Triumph D Type Overdrive Part No.: 17H8021 Weight: 60 g Price: £24.00 this is on overdrive repairs site 15 or 16 , its time to look see what you have as the clues are all varied. Pete
  23. was going to say those are j types on trucks we had a wild variety of pinions housed in an eccentric housing so you could rotate the hsg to suit the pinion diameter all with the same worm........if only from distant memory d type worm is a 5 start dont hold me to that ring dave twigger at odspares
  24. D type only shows as 16T pinion if it was J type then there are 17/18/19/20 available.....sorry not much help Pete
  25. the best diy way to get your TPM is mark 52.8ft down the road stick a card needle on the now detatched inner cable drive car accurately the exact lenght of the test track you measured out. count the number of turns of the card needle multiply the turns by 100 thats the tpm you are looking for. if the oddometer is that far out whats the speed reading , can you check it against a sat nav ?? whilst the drive to the oddometer rolls is seperate from the speed needle its all driven from the cable if one is wrong then both should be wrong having said that if the speed reading is good it may be the small pawl and ratchet on the oddo drive is stiff with age a dash of lube on the lever that prods the pawl can be stiff /tired seized its held on with a small sprung clip so easy to pop it off or just apply some lite oil/grease
