  2. Im looking over the OD for my Vitesse conversion and notice the bronze bush for the mainshaft looks worn. This is just next to the oil pump so presumably supports the mainshaft there. Its not a normal bush and seems to be pressed into the main case so how important is it?
  3. I wonder if the lever arms (all mk 2 vitesse came with them) were replaced by telescopics so the brackets were needed to clear the doughnuts. Then later the drive shafts were replaced with CV so the brackets are no longer needed. Note however that Im not sure if the shocks are the same for with and without brackets and this could be why the brackets have been retained...

  6. As you say John, for that small size of bolt I would have used a small good condition stilsons. No guarantees of course but at least you dont leave anything snapped of in it☹️
  7. And the spacer tube sits balanced on the stud like that does it?
  8. The bottom plate clamps one leaf solidly while the others can rock so reducing the tendency of the wheels to tuck under when cornering hard. I dont recognise that stud in it though...
  9. And no problem with rain through the louvres onto the engine electrics?
  10. One of the bolts goes right through the housing so does a corroded section protrude out of the bottom?
  11. Ha, Ive got mesh in the existing valance hole but would need to remove the number plate to make a second for more air to a TR6 rad...

  13. Oh Im trying to do it all with cheap chinese rads and tbh the civic one seems to be good enough but I want to stay cool in traffic at 40 plus degrees!
  14. Oh Im already on a Honda Civic ally rad but have got an escort ally to go in next but the dream is a TR6 ally one. Have I got a problem do you think🥴
  15. It would definitely have to be male to squeeze in the TR rad and then I dont how much extra cooling there would be as a third of the rad would be inside the valance😁
  16. Think youll get 6mm ok. Ive wondered about fitting a TR6 rad and that would deffo need the valance cutting and a TR style bulge welding in😁
  17. Yes as John says the radiator can only be dropped down so much as the base can hit the valance....
  18. Yes quite common as this operation is used to counter worn hinges...
  19. Yes should be able to move door around on hinge bolts unless theyre already at their limit. Make sure the hinges themselves arent worn loose. Also youll have to alter door catch mech after any realignment....
  20. That looks like the 4th gear synchro and tip needle roller bits in the photo so cant imagine the mainshaft is very healthy☹️
  21. Dont forget youll need a different mounting plate and rubber mounts for a non OD box however I think your speedo cable although longer will still do the job...
  22. Yes as well as different ratios the gear tooth angle and synchro ring size and number changed over the life of that gearbox design. You have a higher chance of finding a good used non OD unit but of course theres no guarantees or real way of knowing its internal condition☹️

  24. But surely John if the strobe shows the spark coming at 13* BTDC then everything has got to be ok with the dizzy, at least at idle anyway? Or are we missing something....
  25. Oh dear this is worrying! How much noise did it make before failing, a gradual build up or sudden? Obviously had plenty of oil I hope? Unusual for main brg to go and what were the three needle roller bearings like? Was the input shaft support bush in the crank very loose? Im asking as I worry about whats going on in my original 80k vitesse box😱
