  1. Engine number stamped not cast on a upward facing surface of the block near to its joint with the cylinder head...
  2. Wonder if the smaller pump pulley also means less belt contact area plus higher pump turning torque required?
  3. I would leave well alone and if the hose struggles to seal properly coat the outside of the fitting with some epoxy metal....
  4. So you can see the jets get pulled down underneath the carbs as the choke knob is pulled? They do have to stay in the down position while starting the engine...
  5. Oh dear, can you see the choke mechanism at the carbs operating when you pull out the knob?
  6. Think these are fitted to mk1 Vitesse and unlikely to both be the originals although with Triumph you never know😁 As I say the vit/gt6 manual seems to show both types...
  7. Good, looks like alloy washers available on ebay if genuine items not available although of course most are metric...
  8. When you look in the workshop manual it seems to show both types of jet holders although of course no mention of whether theyre brass or aluminium. Either way Im sure the internals should be the same and both the washer and o ring are needed however as the jet height (mixture) is manually adjustable the exact washer shouldnt be critical...
  9. Yes the left is the original set up although how fuel didnt pour out because of the missing seals is a surprise. The other does have an unusual set up but it might still function perfectly. Perhaps someone turned up a replacement themselves when the original was damaged - body rounded off, thread stripped?
  10. Yes the chain and sprockets usually last pretty well, especially on a 4 cylinder👍
  11. Of course youll need a new gasket and possibly chain tensioner? Remember the bottom screw of the cover, unlike the rest, goes into aluminium which strips very easily😳
  12. JK says GT6 had KD in non OD cars 3.89 ratio and the equivalent in mk1 Vit was FD while the mk2 went to HC😳
  13. Oil level is below timing cover so no problem to remove it and new seals are ok although I believe some prefer the old leather seals if you can find one. The seals come in two different sizes and I think youll want the smaller type. Also look at the surface the seal rubs on as you dont want any wear on it...
  14. There seems to be some confusion over this but John Kipping noted FD diff as coming from Vit mk1 and FC in mk3 Spit. I think thats correct as the latter car used a 4.11 ratio and if that was fitted to a 2L Vitesse it would be manic😁
  15. Could be but must have been some gorrilla to do it repeatedly😂
  16. Youre right, technology has moved on and in a non OD I would give it a go but in yours I would be nervous...
  17. Not worth the risk surely? The clutches in the OD have linings and just like any other type they can be contaminated and slip...
  18. Yes think thats a good move but not sure that would explain 'cogging' effect which sounds more like the rack and pinnion. The contact between these two is adjustable and may well loosen off after a few miles plus with no load I dont think any rack will be silky smooth and noiseless, mine certainly isnt....
  19. Wow that is an advert for having all six fixings. However it looks as if its only the rear casing thats damaged and theres nothing important in that part. So if theres nothing wrong with the gears and bearings they can be very easily transferred to another case....
  20. Yes nobody knows if 4 holes is enough but a non swing spring probably puts more stress on fixing than the original set up...
  21. I had leaks from locking cap when full so cut myself a new seal from rubber sheet which cured the problem👍
  22. Theres a ball and socket arrangement in the gaiter that could have a loose nut or not have the correct shims to remove play....
  23. Dont forget though that ideally you want grease to start coming out round the ball and into the gaiter for maximum dirt protection...
  24. Nipple is good as dont forget grease isnt just for lube but also keeps out dirt. You can pump in grease to expel any dirt that has entered👍
  25. Trouble with method one youre still pressing the seal lip over the sleeve in the wrong direction. Ok the chamfer helps but not optimum...
