  1. Its alright according to the manual the bolt should come undone with 90 - 100 lbft👍
  2. If that doesnt work the only suggestion Ive got is to get creative with the rad mount brackets. They could be modified (with a hacksaw) so it sits lower...
  3. will still need a whack to crack it off as the transmission just winds up....
  4. Almost certainly the radiator is slightly taller than original...
  5. A whack with a hammer on the spanner is exactly what the impact driver does👍
  6. Is it one of the 'ears' of the radiator cap thats touching as Ive noticed on mine one ends up facing forwards when the cap is done up so putting it closer to the slope of the bonnet. You can test it with some putty to see where the squash point is and if so cut both off with a hacksaw so the cap is round? Smooth the edges obviously and the cap will still function perfectly normally...

    Synthetic Fuels

I always think its better to hit peoples wallets rather than by law. The conventional car in a charging point space makes sense but an EV plugged in - is it charging or not? As if the police havent got enough to do....

    Synthetic Fuels

Surely that needs to be dealt with in the cost? You overstay by more than a certain amount and get more money taken from your account - after all apart from the inconvenience the company is losing the sale of power to the next customer
  9. hmmm difficult to do that and separate any trunnion play from that in the ball joint so I meant with the wheel off push and pull on the top of the vertical link while closely watching or feeling for any movement between it and the top wishbone....
  10. I was thinking of that hand pump to prove if the pipe from the tank was blocked cos using the mechanical one its difficult to know if the pump or pipe is at fault. With a clear leak free pipe once you got fuel flowing it should continue to run freely as a syphon. You should even be able to block the end wait a while and then release it to continue flowing.....
  11. Certainly up and down not easy on top ball joint but might visually see slight in and out movement when off ground...
  12. Do you get the noise over bumps Dave? Especially if only one wheel is jolted thats when Id expect anti roll bar looseness to knock. Not always easy to find play in suspension as its under tension - top ball joints ok as some replacements dont seem to last long these days? There shouldnt be tension in the bar until one wheel does something different from the other ie the car leans...
  13. Got to have a way to get the fuel over the syphon and flowing to prove this. Sucking by mouth is not to be recommended so one of those little hand pumps like this would be ideal....
  14. Just think of it as Christmas coming early this year😁
  15. Hmmm well looks like both types have the vacuum valve in the centre but as you say cant pull coolant back unless the top face in sealed. Maybe the vaccum release valve has always been incorporated just to avoid the risk of ending up with negative pressure in the system whatever its set up....
  16. When you say washer Colin its a reverse valve in the centre with its own spring which is pulled open by vacuum in the radiator. Im not sure any caps are produced now without it as of course its perfectly ok for use in a non reservoir set up...

    Spark plug colour

Has the engine rebuilder got any ideas on why it happened? What crank end float did he measure when it was reassembled after regrind and new bearings (what size purchased)? Before buying a secondhand engine I would try to do a compression test, measure crank endfloat, inspect rockers and if possible even boroscope in through the spark plug holes....
  18. Interesting as later rad is obviously deeper so maybe there was a problem with getting good airflow to all of the wide one....
  19. Seems like a plan! The noise you want to listen out for if increasing is produced underload in the first 3 gears as this will be from one of the needle roller bearings. These run direct on main geabox components and can generate noise for quite a while but need to be repaired before major damage occurs...
  20. Sounds like working on the car is going to be a doddle in comparison😁
  21. Great yes as you put the cap on you should feel the slight resistance of the spring in it as thats compressed by the seat making contact before rotating the cap to lock it in place. If you dont feel that the cap isnt sealing....
  22. Theres also gearing to consider as both the gearbox and axle ratios are different so as to make use of the greater torque produced by the bigger engine. As Colin says the best idea is to change over a much as possible from the 1500...
  23. Normally synchros depends on the gear with second and third being the worst. The change is never going to be like a modern but should be able to go through smoothly just slower. For running noise you could remove the cover, carefully run the car in gear on axle stands and listen with a large screwdriver to your ear at various points...
  24. Its not as bad as that Iain! In the old days these cars were used everyday for work and holidays largely with no problems but of course now that does depend on keeping on top of the state them😁
