  1. Pete, surely that bottom bush can be changed without separating the spring from the damper?
  2. Dont know about your vehicle but mine has to have the engine supported so the engine mount can be removed to allow access to the belt. The access can be quite limited and you have to work through the wheel arch. Also might need some locking pins which are inserted to hold the cam and crank in same position while belt replaced. Usually do pump and idler gear at same time as if either of these seizes the belt fails and its all over☹️
  3. theyre all connected in parallel so if one gets power they all do as long as the connections are good. To test each ones resistance you have to disconnect the cables and with your mulitmeter on low resistance setting put one lead on the glowplug terminal and the other to the cylinder head. You should see a resistance of a few ohms while a failed one will have a much higher resistance...
  4. Test it electrically Paul as it may be ok. What usually happens is that one fails but the engine carries on starting ok until the second one fails and then there is a problem especially if the battery isnt too strong and its the middle of winter🙁
  5. You can check the tolerances on the existing oil pump quite easily then if outside the limits change just some of the components or the complete thing. However there has been a problem where the clearances of some of the new replacements are still not good enough so I believe specialists like Witor offer, at a premium, to supply correct pumps....
  6. yes true, better than a stripped thread😲
  7. Yes that last one will be a duff one as probably not been changed previously cos its stuck! You can compare their resistances with a multimeter if you want confirmation... As for getting it out thats more complicated and its possible to do some damage in the process. Leave it to soak with penetrating oil as long as possible then try it or if no good try again with the engine hot?
  8. My early 68 Mk1 Vitesse has the original leather covered one so maybe they were used at a particular time or were an optional extra? Dont think its just the plastic type with a cover because the three segments where the spokes connect to the rim are also leather...

    Vitesse price

Theyre Michelin XAS and they even do a 'Formule France' compound for competition but the prices of both types look horrendous!

I use 165/80/13 (a size I think Michelin still do) on my Vitesse with 5.5 rims and theyre brilliant but of course do put the speedo out a bit...

If buying new I think youve got to speak to the seller and get theyre recommendation for fitting to a Vitesse so that if theres a problem its their responsibility....
  12. Yes hours of fiddling fun to be had with that lot😁
  13. I do like the idea of heating the hub as although Ive never done that in theory its exactly what is needed. Theres no seal or bearing in it to worry about so it can be heated rapidly and, with rotation, evenly (needs a decent torch) to expand while the shaft remains cooler and separates🤔
  14. And remember all that whack is going through your UJ and into the diff quarter shaft ball race bearing☹️
  15. sorry Clive that last bit has got to be impossible as the bearing shells halves are identical so you cant put two notches together. Reckon its notches both on same side of journal but one towards front of engine and the other towards the back....

Yes does appear to have stopped working so get it from here: Triumph GT6 and Vitesse 2-litre workshop manual (tecb.eu)

The PDF of the manual should download ok it certainly did for me. Otherwise it might be available elsewhere online. Really useful although some of the photos are very dark (they are even in the paper version) and it makes great bedtime reading😁 Its best to try to get your answers from it first and then if you have any queries or doubts ask as there are shortcuts to some jobs and also I think there are a couple of misleading errors in the manual...

Yes I admit I like 50 - 60mph max so in my Vit find wind noise more intrusive than engine. Well done on having your cooling systems in such great condition👍

Very nice. No overdrive but I personally dont miss it in my Vitesse (I would have thought its even less of a benefit in a convertible) but might change my diff ratio at some stage to lower the revs when cruising.... They can suffer from overheating especially in traffic on hot days so your cooling system needs to be as good as possible.
  20. Looking at Rimmers that seems to be the earlier 144580 21 tooth gear while the photo I posted previously is the later UKC8750 17 tooth item....
  21. yes important to know where the error is coming from so you can make the best decision on how to correct it. You could always look at the serial number stamped length ways along the underside of the diff front casing to see if its non standard (its unlikely the internal ratio has been changed)...
  22. Its really checking revs against the GPS speed thats the most important to tell you if the diff/tyres are all standard so then youll know if the speedo is wrong. Course this does depend on the tacho being accurate😩
  23. Yes there seems to be a risk with any replacement rubber components for our cars now, that the material will disintegrate rapidly without exposure to sunlight or useage, almost as if its biodegradeable! I got the stainless bit from the Canley page: Developed by us following Formua series racing practice of the 1960/70s. We were running early versions of our kits on our Triumphs back in the early 80's back when they were more usually seen on the race track. Initially our kits were sold with a imperial spherical ball joint, but later modified by us to take a modern metric stainless steel, and PFTE bearing surface spherical joint.
  24. Believe the trunnionless jobbie is stainless steel, unlike top ball joints, so the difference in protection. I think youll find the top ball jointer gaiters will fail very quickly. Mine, with very little use, started cracking within six months so it was out with the ball joint cracker to replace them with new gaiters from balljointboots.co.uk. These seem more quite a bit more substantial and hopefully will last longer....
  25. Must admit I like to give back anything borrowed asap to save it cluttering up the place! I'd rather somebody else keep it until the next time I need it😁
