  1. Chris witor sells the poly bushes. I'll have to buy the clamps, donations kindly accepted😂. From memory Johny is correct and the bushes are retained by stops on the rack.
  2. Nor can I as the nylon must wear and soon become ineffective? Iain
  3. Aah mystery solved. However I believe not all racks have it or at least exposed.
  4. No idea but its supposed to stop rattle! I've never taken a good look at the rack or stripped one down. I did replace the track rod ends which was a right phaf as the threads where ever so slightly different pitch and bound up😡 Iain
  5. Thanks Johny sounds like a job after the show season! Everything works it's just comfort tweaking. Iain
  6. Yes I think 128001 is a collar not the pin. The nylon plug is just that it's the pin that may be missing but I'll have to take a look first. Iain
  7. Found this from Ahebron who was rebuilding a rack:- "took the rack out drilled the anti rattle hole which is 1/4", made a anti rattle pin which is 1/4" dia by 3/16 long (dimensions supplied form Triumphexp)." Is it a dowel pin or can it be soft non hardened steel? Moss Quote NCA (not currently available?) Iain
  8. Mmmm, it may be my column bushes are worn? How difficult are they to replace? More investigations required. Iain
  9. I have a solid mounted rack and am finding a lot of vibration at the steering wheel. I kept the original steering column joint as I thought a UJ would transfer even more noise and vibration. Of the various colours and hardness is the 'comfort' blue grade OK. To be honest I would probably buy from Chris Witor as his products are generally first rate. Iain PS, I'll look and see where/if I have the anti rattle pin!
  10. It's not as you just rotate the dizzy to alter the timing. You have to get the valves working at the correct time in relation to the crank/piston or the engine will never work properly. Iain
  11. Do you know when the head will be returned? Iain
  12. A very good event, much bigger than I imagined with a huge selection of cars. A few Triumphs but for me the star was the Vauxhall. The two GT40s have the monoques we made for Safir Engineering in the 80s. For me the Vauxhall was the star of the meet. I'll probably never see another and in that era Vauxhall were easily as good if not better than Bentley. I'm not a bike person but the Augusta was just 'right'.
  13. Was it a boy or girl........ Edit Crossply or radial😂
  14. It's not unusual for tyres not to be perfectly round. I remember one fitter showing me on the balance machine how the new tyre pulsed in and out. It was alarming so he returned the tyre to Michelin and had it replaced. In the 70s I replaced the rear tyres on my Escort before going on a two week Scotland trip. The back end whined so I spent most of the holiday with the worry beads out and limited speed to 60mph. After many trips to the Ford dealer an elderly mechanic came out with me and said its tyre whine. To prove it he changed the rear wheels and the noise stopped. It was a tiresome journey back from Aberdeen at 60mph.....! Iain
  15. Weather predicted to be fine so I've bought an early bird ticket £20 and will post some photos. The entry list looks very varied with lots of historic and vintage cars. I can't go through London and down the A3 because some healthy people are running a half marathon from Tower Bridge to Canary Wharf so it's round the M25 lottery! Iain
  16. If the valves and seat are in a bad way that could explain the low compression and a dropped valve obviously zero compression. Just do the head for now. Iain
  17. I think it all depends on if there is any damage to the bore and or piston. Cross fingers they are OK then I would just fit a new guide and possibly valve and reassemble with new studs and nuts. Subject to full inspection I can't see any reason to spend cash on anything else. Iain
  18. Thanks Dick, it does look interesting. I missed the vscc Prescott meet earlier this month so weather permitting I'll go and report back. Cheers Iain
  19. Looking for somewhere to go this weekend has anyone been to Shere hill climb or smoked up the hill? Not just classic cars but a bit more drama than static displays. All entries closed so only spectator tickets available. Iain
  20. A great venue with unique aircraft. Nice meeting up with everyone, I even missed the rain apart from one 2 minute monsoon. Cheers All Iain
  21. Will do, I'll bring folding money! Filled the car up with Tesco Momentum and about to give it a wash so I'm ready. Iain
  22. Cheers, I'll bring brolly and sunglasses! Iain
  23. Pete, are there still spaces as I would like to go. Iain
  24. Snap, so do I! If you're temperature rises too much it may be the Kenlow isn't sucking enough air ie not powerful enough? However if it doesn't boil I probably wouldn't bother. We all get hot and bothered in traffic. I'm sure I read somewhere the valances help airflow. Iain
