  1. Very nice car, I see you have an exhaust that does not wake the gods. is it a standard one ? Mine is the twin thingy louder than Concorde on take off Any idea how to find out if its been in those mags ?
  2. Hi Derek, I brought it 12 months ago from Lancaster, it now resides much closer to it's birth place, not far from Coventry. Attached a picture of it parked next to another great bit of great British engineering, interesting designed by Roy Chadwick, who as designed the Lancaster bomber just 8 years before. Just shows what we can do when want to eh. On that note compare the very latest 100 million plus plane (made in the US )we have the Lockheed Martin F35 B, to Concorde. Which goes faster ? Which goes higher ? Which has the longest range ? Which has the longest operational hours between down time service ? Which carries 130 people ? Just a thought Have you got some pictures of yours ?
  3. Hi All, just trying to find out more about my spitfire, before i married it Does anyone recognise the other cars in these pictures ? Mine is the spitfire RAO338R, the others I think might be in the North West ( DEY468S, ELG579F )but I think the picture was taken circa 1998. I have attached some other pictures of shows the car has been too back in the 1990s and early 2000. Any body got any ideas who these people are ? Cheers
  4. Thanks very much, don't suppose you have any pictures of what you did ? Cheers
  5. Hi Colin, sorry forgot to mention my spitfire has twin exhaust system, the back boxes are off whilst I treat some surface rust under the bloody underseal Twin exhaust; Pro's, looks good. Con's it louder than the original Supermarine V12 made by rolls Royce. Any body got any ideas how to quietener her down a bit, the boxes appear to be straight through but have all the padding in them ???
  6. Hi all, I think there is only one clip, a bent bit of strip steel welded to the chassis, brilliant 60's engineering or what sorry the pictures upside down.
  7. Hi Colin, I used a multi tool with a scraper blade (various sizes), no clogging and little mess flying around
  8. Oh, yeh the hazard switch surround was a right pig. Here are some pictures of that evil speedo and the build up.
  9. Hi Yep I reckon brexit was easier than fitting a one piece But actually it was not too bad, thing to do is remove the centre stand, radio, and both lower parcel selfs and seats. These were all out anyway as I was repairing a gear box oil leak on the solenoid for the overdrive. I also got rid of the useless seatbelt warning lamp as it didn't work and the seat sensors are not available any more, gives it a cleaner look. The power socket was added as it didn't have a cigarette lighter from original and I didn't want to put one in the new dash. The hardest part was the bio*dy speedo drive cable, both getting it off and back on again.
  10. Hi All, Just completed my dash, one of winter jobs, see before and after pictures, you guess which one is which
  11. Hi All, Can anyone advise the best way to treat the rust I have unearthed in my rear wheel arches of my 1500 spitfire ? I am thinking, 1 rust converter 2 etch primer 3 seam sealer 4 primer 5 this is where I am stuck, I would like to have it body colour underneath but it obviously needs some stone chip protection, so can I spray paint (Tahiti blue incase you wondered) on under seal ? and do I have to remove all the other old stuff first ? please see pictures, I was lucky only surface rust under to old under seal Thanks very much, really appreciated the advise.
  12. Hi Roger, know what you mean about the garage. I am just in the process of replacing my dash panels, looks like it was designed for assembly by Norfolk people (extra digits needed Seriously through as a senior design engineer in the auto industry, having designed many parts for the last 40 years, I really can't think what the heck the engineers at Triumph were thinking of when they came up with the Spitfire dash system. Incidentally the name of my first company was "Jaguar Rover Triumph". Nice red car in the picture is it yours ? what is it ?
  13. Cheers Pete, didn't know that. Is it a conspiracy to keep frustrating people
  14. Hi ,could you PM me?, new to this thing been a member for a few weeks now, and the web site keeps playing up with my login aghhhhh
  15. Hi All, All 44 year old Solenoid seals now all replaced, tested and working fine. If anyone would like a new set of the five seals required let me know and for a "stamped addressed envelope" plus a first class stamp, there yours. please see the old ones below
  16. Hi All, This is the yellow car at Gaydon BMM. I took these pictures because Chris Fisher (USA youtube) is restoring his round tail and was fretting about his door gaps. I sent him these pictures, now he's not fretting ;). The car is currently up on a very high stand, so you cannot see much of the top or insides. They only take them down for cleaning, Ive asked them to let me know when this might be so that I can get some more pictures. I will take a look for the magnetic St. Christopher, is it actually inside the tank ? I know the guys at longbridge CAB 1, used to play game a of throw the lose bolt into the Allegro petrol tanks, could never find where the bloody rattle was coming from (no wonder it closed). According the boys at Gaydon, the chassis frame came into Canley as black, but they assembled the tubs etc to them before colour paint, so as not to damage the finished paint during tub assembly. The original black chassis paint was not worthy of anything. Ive got more pictures of the underside if any needs any specific. Cheers.
  17. Hi Both thanks very much. When you say "keep the pressure differential front to back is wise " do you mean front, at say 28 rears at 32 etc ? Thanks very much
  18. Hi All, Don't know if this helps, please pictures of a completely original spitfire that has done less than 15 miles. This was the last one ever made. Correct answer is not a lot of paint at all, thats why the bl**dy things rust so much:)
  19. Hi All, Can you help with tyre pressures front and rear? I've got a 1976 spitfire 1500 standard steel wheels with 175/70 R13 82T tyres, I can not find these in the original literature ???
  20. Hi All, My 1976 1500 is missing the chrome trim, has anyone had these fitted after the screen has been in quite a few years? Does anybody know anyone in the midlands area which could fit a new chrome trim ? Just reading comments and think it best left to someone else:)
  21. Hi, is that a Jade Muttley car ? (looks like his handy work, very nice)
