  1. Hi All, re spit 1500 1976 Can somebody who has a 45D4 distributor help with a simple dimension from the top of the shaft to the top lobe ring (please see picture with about 13mm)? I am having an issue with a power spark electronic ignition module. When I put the actuator ring all the way down the shaft till it stops on the lobe ring but the car won't fire up :(. If I just place it on the lobe ring and let the rotor arm set it distance then it works, but I am also having issues with the advance which keeps moving by itself with no help from the distributor rotary position:( Power spark have indicated that the actuator ring and rotor arm should be nearly touching when installed, and have suggested a new distributor (just want to check that I am not being sold a new dizzy unnessarrly. Please see pictures cheers.
  2. Hi The drip rail is a real pain in a** for catching rust, personally I would leave it off. There cannot possibly be any more water getting inside than usual ? just working in the same area on my spit
  3. Hi Pete, Just took the wheel box off to repair a bit of rust so its in free state. Turns out 46 years ago they scrapped the paint in the hole when they installed the box (wonder if they are still around for some "heavy duty coaching" as we now call it I've now cleaned all the corrosion on the aluminium outer shaft housing ready to go back on. Just waiting on the colour match paint to finish the job. 8F054EC5-074C-439B-812D-7E2BA1DFBD95.heic 0190154C-7D25-4C45-AF3D-26512E231DD5.heic D02C6157-64E7-4E54-BA23-8596193D1708.heic
  4. Hi everyone, Does anyone know how stiff or loose the wiper wheel box shaft should be ? Mine turn but I think they might be on the stiff side, but I don't know if this was meant to be, to limit the hysteresis the flip flop etc.
  5. These are the same dick heads who ride all in black ( or tarmac coloured as I call it). So they blend in very nice with the road and do not upset anybody by being highly visible And too bright in unstyalistIc clothing 🤣
  6. Cheers Pete's, is that how you address a couple of Pete's ?
  7. Hi all, Does any one know which way round this pesky little door mirror plinth is supposed to go, ie thicker side up or down, both seem possible ?? (no instructions with the mirrors
  8. Hi looks good, where did you get it from ? I was thinking of fitting one to the luggage rack on the back of my spitfire, might be a bit low, but better than nothing
  9. Hi everyone, hope your all safe and well, and enjoying some warmer weather, if not wetter Sorry if this has been covered before, I did search for it but didn't manage to find anything. Does anyone know what the door gaps should be on a spit 1500 ? I have looked at an old manual but it was not much help as it said 2' 4 1/2'' not much help as its clearly bigger than that, but also does not give the actual gaps between rear wing (or fender if you live on the wrong side of the Atlantic ) and the door, plus bonnet gap. If anyone has a an original car without reskins etc I would appreciate some measurements, thanks very much.
  10. Cheers Pete, that was quick, did you have it in back pocket 😉
  11. Ah cheers that could be very good alternative. Has anybody done this already, ie is their a cap that fits with the switch in place ?
  12. Brilliant thanks both, bit of long term project for when the weather gets better, and a chance to source some parts etc,
  13. Hi, thanks, I don’t suppose you have any pictures of your installation? I did think that I would have to fit the PDW thingy does it do anything else other that light up the warning lamp, reason for asking is I remover years ago my mini (when it was a bloody mini) had a pressure reducing valve one the rear circuit on the rear subframe. Only found out about it after spending days and days unsuccessfully trying to bleed the bloody thing. Found out you have to go really slowly on the down stroke to stop it locking off 😏
  14. Hi All, Hope everyone is well, safe and playing with their cars. I have searched for this idea but couldn't find anything so thought I post a new thread. Has anyone upgraded a single brake system on a spitfire, to a dual system ? Does anyone know the pros and cons of this modification (insurance issue's etc) etc ? I think (that's the best of saying "I don't really know";) the only limiting factor is the need to cut the bulk head to fit the bigger master cylinder ? Not sure if this is feasible on the pre dual system cars, mines a 76. Cheers.
  15. Evening all, I hope this finds everyone well, if not a bit feed up with 2021 already. I am looking to replace all four tyres on the spits I suspect they are now too old. Please see picture I think they are week 9 2001 ? So I was wondering if we have a club discount as such ??? Or does any one have any recommendations ?? found these on national tyres, has anyone used these ? Cheers every one. P.S. still looking for a roll bar with a diagonal, bloody hens teeth or what
  16. Blooming heck, talk about light the blue touch paper and run I feel like a dentist that's touched a nerve @JohnD great pictures, the new Range Rover L405 used on the right is in fact the stretch version we designed especially for the Chinese market (because the Chinese are much bigger people than Europeans or even Americans ) interestingly the classic RR weighed in at over 2.6 tons, the new stretch one, despite its size is only 500 kg more, with the help of some fancy aerospace grade aluminium and cutting edge rivet bonding technology. Any way back to the safe area of roll bars, a Roll Over Bar without a diagonal it is then. And Oh yes I did know what I was buying, I have added DRL's to help with the blind people out there who should not be on the road, and I drive it like a professional motor bike rider, having been a police out rider in a previous life.
  17. Hi all, hope everyone is safe and well. As our cars were designed a rather long time ago when safety was an after thought, just thought 64 years later, I would explore the idea of a roll over bar for a Spitfire 1500. The current design method is to use rather exotic metals in the windscreen frame to provide roll over protection, but this is not an option for the spitfire, does anyone have any thoughts, good or bad, about them and maybe where to get one from?
  18. Might be worth checking the timing chain tensioner first ? Just a thought.
  19. Here are my brackets, I think they are original, did these pictures whilst refurbishing the underside in the kitchen
  20. Hi Brooky, looking really good, keep up the good work Just out of interest I don't know how original you want to keep it, but there is a restomod on you tube where they have removed the seams from the top of the rear wings and the rear panels, its not finished yet but looks really good. Here is a link, if your interested.
  21. Brilliant, looks really good, love the detailed updates. Pity it has no doors Are you going to fit a chrome strip on the windscreen ? love to see some pictures if you of doing it, cheers.
  22. Just out of interest i find good old petrol a great degreaser and evaporates so fast it does not react with paint
  23. looks like slightly more spots than the factory used on the original
