  1. "Seek and ye shall find" After a night's thought (I'm a slow thinker) I wondered what my spare was held in place with and I had a vague memory of adding wheel nut to my 'potential' shopping list. Well, the wheel is held in by an ordinary(ish) nut and my list of spares had a wheel nut listed as being in my 'SOS kit'. Yes I do have one - it must have been included when I got the car, maybe holding the spare in place even.
  2. That's good to know, it's what I thought. A spare wheel nut is always useful just in case, now to put it on my shopping list.
  3. Yes, you have to be quick to beat Pete to the 'buzzer'.!
  4. I quite agree. I can spot an oil leak, tell if the car is running too rich from its performance, tell if the brakes work when I press the pedal. BUT, rust on the chassis, bits underneath coming loose etc. No, I need someone to put it on a lift and have a good look from time to time. My classic here has to have the french equivalent every 5 years, I can take it for voluntary tests of course as well. A classic put on the road before 01/01/1960 is totally exempt though. Mind you that date is fixed. These rules do only apply to cars registered as 'Collection' which means pretty much standard in terms of engine.
  5. Good choice and welcome to the mad house forum
  6. Another reason for me not buying one.
  7. Snap, I was just looking for a photo for a different thread and also spotted ones of my original equipment type petrol cap and locking one. Same as yours, never noticed it before. I will sleep much better tonight now the mystery is solved.
  8. This is a photo I took some time ago as this same question has been raised, maybe for a Herald not Vitesse. Maybe worth doing a search on the forum?
  9. I am prepared to, just need to be able to get the time opportunity to take measurements
  10. I should have said the grammar school was at Brookside, if my memory still works - it was 50 years ago.
  11. I went to the Grammar school there, initially to the old school in town and new one from 5th form
  12. That ties in with what I currently have fitted
  13. Fitted mine to the original mounting points and with careful positioning, it took a while to get them in the correct position, they work fine and the hood fits without any problem.
  14. I even went and looked at the one fitted to confirm there is no visible hole. How it vents I don't know, I agree locking ones would vent via the lock ( I have a locking one as well but prefer the original - less effort when I go and fill the car I'm that lazy) Now my curiosity is aroused, I'll not sleep until I also have the answer!
  15. I'm no expert, but. I have the original type petrol cap fitted and it does not a hole in the cap. I can't say I'm aware of how the system vents, sorry I can't be of more help. Someone will be along soon with a full answer, my money is on either 'Doug' or 'Pete' being part of their name 😉
  16. Front? Fitted them to my 13/60, they work fine. You must make sure you get the version that allows the reel to be mounted in any direction. P.S. How is Chesterfield these days? I was born there and grew up in Newbold
  17. I'll second the comments above. What about a bit more detail as to why the import? Photos when you 'unwrap' it will be appreciated by all of us.
  18. And I'm debating which of the two local artisan breweries to go to to stock up. One is very close, in the direction I go regularly to shop, so is convenient. The other further away, maybe 30 minutes instead of 15, but is a pleasant drive in the Triumph. Life is so hard and full of complex decisions
  19. There a a lot of Triumph suppliers in England. The bigger ones are : https://www.canleyclassics.com/?catalogue=triumph-herald-13/60&diagram=catalogues https://rimmerbros.com/SubCategory--Triumph-Herald--m-928 https://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/ In France I have used these, they are fairly close to me https://www.betaset.fr/38-herald These should give you a good starting point. Bon chasse
  20. It isn't the making it's the drinking that causes his 'condition'
  21. Then you hide where? 👁️‍🗨️
  22. The only reason I can think of for not jumping at them is what is the manufactured date? They might have a short 'shelf life'. Oh, a second reason - the colour if you don't like black ones 🙃
  23. Well I got the numbers right, just not in the right order 🙃 Really hi-tech then
