  1. Hi all I thought I would say thank you to all who gave me advise on this subject. I have replaced all three seals on my diff. It is not a hard job but a lot of work for three bits of rubber seals. All put back together no oil leaks. If anyone is thinking they cannot do this job please have a go. regards Andrew
  2. Hi all thanks for all the advise. I will pay a visit to the club shop this week to purchase the recommended EP 90 GL 4 oil. Luckily for me I can pass the shop on my travels. thank you Once again and happy new year to all regards Andrew
  3. Hello Herald 13/60 some advise please. Just replaced all my seals in the diff, and about to refill with EP 90 gear oil. The oil that was in is EP 90 GL4 (millers) . Just noticed that the oil I have bought is EP90 GL5 (Carlube) both well known makes but what is the difference between GL4 and GL5. Will it be ok to use in my differential and gear box. regards Andrew
  4. Hello I am going to resolve this problem, Colin is on the right track I flexible nipple. I am going to have a play with my nipples let you know the outcome Andrew
  5. Hi all so I think the only thing is replace when they start knocking, I can wait. As I have not got the skills here is a challenge to anyone. What about cutting a long straight nipple in half. Solder each end to an inserted tube, so the result would be a three inch long nipple. Then the club shop could buy and stock them, I would buy a couple. What are your thoughts Andrew
  6. Hi all tried both ways wheels hanging so I can turn the drive shaft. 45 degree nipples will not screw in. So what is best just to leave them until they need replacing. What sort of mileage should I get from a U J
  7. Ok this is driving me mad. just discovered my UJs have removable screws. To allow grease nipples to be fitted. I have bought a couple of long nipples so I can fit them in, grease the UJs then remove the nipples and put the blanking screws back in. Question how do you get the nipples in because as you screw them in they foul on the UJ. I did manage to get one in, but then I could not get the grease gun on the nipple, any bright ideas please. regards Andrew
  8. Hello I fitted a high torque starter motor to my herald about two years ago. No problem at all with starting and engaging the ring gear, also car starts much faster.
  9. Herald 13/60 OK Put me out of my misery. Why oh why is there no gasket between the output shaft flange and the mating surface of the differential. I am renewing the output seal but surely oil can weep between the bearing outer race and leak out. Am I missing something. I will of course put some Hylomar on the surface as I have been advised to by a very learned member of the club, but why no gasket from new? Andrew
  10. Hello Darren Have you tried Fitchetts or Canley classics? Andrew
  11. Hello classic life. I live in Derby steve
  12. Hello advise please. I have a late 13/60 herald with an oil leak on one of the output shafts from the diff. Two questions 1) can I remove the diff with rear wheels on ramps or do I need the wheels hanging in the air and the car on axil stands. And how difficult a job is it to remove the diff 2) once diff removed how difficult is it to install new oil seals,do I need a puller to get the drive shaft off. Or should I remove the diff and take it to someone to change the oil seals, and if so can anyone recommend someone. thanking you in advance andrew
  13. Hello haggis I replaced my trunnions last winter with a kit from TD Fitchits. All well and working fine I have to agree with canleys statment not worth replacing nylon with poly. My only word of caution is get trunnions from a reputable source. The one from fitchets are first class unlike my earlier purchase approx three years ago from another supplier they leaked out of the bottom Regards Andrew
  14. Go on tell us how Andrew
  15. What about TD Fitchet always use them as my first call Andrew
  16. Hello all Like valherald I also have a Herald and likewise I watched it for any knowledge they had that could help me with running my Herald. What struck me was the car allegedly had been standing in that garage for eleven years, so the first thing I would have done when on the ramps would have been to look at the notorious trunnions. Why do programme makers insult our intelligence Regards Andrew
  17. Did anyone see the new program on Quest TV turbo pickers, renovating old cars. This week they purchase an old Herald and polished it. Not sure what to make of the program any comments from anyone who watched it. Regards Andrew

  21. Just replacing my front shocks on my Herald 13/60. Obviously one rubber bush each side of the top plate then fasten the unit to the car with the three stunts. My question is how tight do I the nuts on the top of the shocks to fasten or squash the rubber bushes Regards Andrew
