Bobtaylor
I have recently acquired a 1968 Mk1 Vitesse. IN the past the rocker cover, air box and dynamo have all been painted in the cars body colour. I guess the dynamo should be black and I am going to fiy an aluminium rocker cover (as I had one already ) but what is the correct colour for the air filter housing. I an sure I have seen silver and black. Not the biggest problem in the world, guess I have too much spare time on my hands!!!!!!!! Before this Mk1 I had a Vitese 6 1600. I am amazed at the difference it is a pleasure to drive by comparison.
Colin Lindsay
I would have said gloss black, but a quick internet search has revealed both black and silver (not to mention red and blue....) Mike Costigan's book shows both black and silver, but Graeme Robson's shows only black. I suspect it's an age-related thing; possibly early cars with the large filter box were black and then to modernise later models, they became silver? Vitesse owners, come to the rescue! Gary Flinn
I reckon the Mk1 2 Litre Vitesse was Black, the later Mk2 Silver. Although knowing Standard Triumph it may have changed on the 2 Litre Mk1 halfway through Production!
NonMember
My Mk1 has a silver air box but that's not really a good indication. I don't remember whether the late Mk1 I had 30 years ago was silver or black but since it had a 1600 radiator it probably wasn't a good indication either. dave.vitesse
Both late Vitesse 6 (1600 )and 2 Litre (Mk1) had a satin black coloured air filter box. The 2 Litre Mk2 had a silver coloured air filter box. Dave

daverclasper
Ooh. Now we have gloss and satin black?. Satin, looks better for me?, same for the heater box.
Peter Truman
trouble with satin it will show all the oily marks, whereas gloss will wipe clean a lot easier.
