Colin Lindsay
I'm trying to search for a thread on 'wheel cylinders'. I get 4000000000 results which seem to contain any of the letters in 'wheel' or 'cylinder' so am trying to narrow it down by clicking on the blue suggestions that come up along the top of the results. Do I wish to search for the phrase 'wheel cylinder'? Yes. Then I get this: So, I wait, maybe ten seconds, then try again. This time I get: That's all I'll get for the rest of the evening until I exit the forum and come back, when I'm allowed one search before it all starts again. Why is there such a restriction on searches?
dougbgt6
Colin, that's normal, I get it now and again, but repeatedly is odd. And it does let me in within a few seconds. I suppose the wire to NI is very long and causes the problem. Have you tried turning your PC off and on again? Actually that did work one time when I couldn't search anymore! It seems like a silly system where I'm prompted to narrow the search, but then it won't let me do so and blocks me for a time. I've just checked again, 18 minutes later, and here's the same result:
dougbgt6
Nah, you got a problem squire, the wait 1 second is WAIT ONE SECOND. Never had it delay longer than it says. Just tried "brake cylinders" then GT6 brake cylinders" then "large GT6 brake cylinders" then "extra large GT6 brake cylinders" then WAIT 3 SECONDS then search OK The problem is at your end I think? db Doug
Badwolf
Colin - Try searching on "wheel cylinder" using quotation marks. Just a thought.
Colin Lindsay
Same thing this morning; first search I tried, I get the same message:
dougbgt6
Have you looked in "More search options" ? Is there some thing set that shouldn't be? Everything should be set to ALL/ANY for simple search. Otherwise, wait for Kevin. Doug
Colin Lindsay
Back to normal just now; I was able to search, then narrow the search, and return to various search pages without being frozen out. Strange, but if it works I'm happy.
PeteH
HI Strangely, I have had it happen, and the only get out was to go out of the search facility and then go back in? and restart. Edit:- Is it something to do with which O/S is being used?. I`ve got both Win10 and Win7 (for some of my "legacy" software) on this laptop. It happens in win7. haven`t noticed it on win10?. Badwolf
I got exactly the same error last night on my tablet. Don't know about win 10 yet. Just installed the latest updates due to withdrawal of security updates from my previous version. Today will not be fun, windows updates never are. Just waiting to see what no longer works or goes wrong.
Colin Lindsay
Oh Lord... back to this again. I search for 'Oil' and get dozens of entries. The suggestion at the top of the page is "search for 'oil' in content titles only", so I click on that. Then here we go again... So I wait.... then try again: So I wait.. in fact I go off for a coffee, then come back, set coffee down, and try again: I exit the search altogether, and try again... same thing. Am I in a different time zone this morning?
Badwolf
Close forum, clear cookies, restart your device try again. If that doesn't work...go out for a drive.
PeteH
Often clearing the cache will do it, reset’s the system, but it slows up some new searches. Pete
Colin Lindsay
Went out, serviced the strimmer (new fuel lines) cut grass, sandblasted a few parts... came back in, two hours or more later. It's now working ok. I didn't change anything so something has sorted itself out without me.

Replaced the leaking fuel lines, greased a few bits, tidied up the spark plug cable and bingo. It started first time without all the string-pulling faffing of recent times. I'm always pleasantly surprised when something works after I've messed with it.

Morgana
I would like to second that the forum built-in search engine is not good. I have never been able to get useful results with it. I've stopped using it, instead using search modifiers on my normal search engine which actually throws up useful results. If one suffixes a normal search using the engine of one's choice with "site:forum.tssc.org.uk" much more reasonable results are available, and there are more to a page enabling swifter visual sifting. There's also not the problem with searching again too quickly on realising the keywords were wrong, so Colin Lindsay's error message is a thing of the past. johny
I find the search pretty good but have to use the advanced one, make sure Im searching in the right section and chose the words carefully....
dougbgt6
Took me a while to grasp " " for multiple words. However I have on occasion given up and done a search on the dread Bing and it comes up with what I was looking for on the forum database. Go figure!
