AlanT
Hi, Having poured antifreeze over the floor it’s obvious that my resto needs a new or secondhand rad before I can start it up. Any thoughts on options for a restorer who doesn’t want to spend much more! Thanks Alan
NonMember
Look for a local radiator repair place in the yellow pages (OK, OK, on Google) and take it to them. They're likely to charge much less than a new one for a result that's way better than a second-hand one.
Colin Lindsay
Well, your choices are repair, replace, buy S/H or buy new. I've found what appears to be new here, but Chinese-made: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313763295451?fits=Model%3ASpitfire&hash=item490dbff0db:g:D3AAAOSw-1JdVk~1 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165207934882?fits=Model%3ASpitfire&hash=item26772907a2:g:uwwAAOSwzaxhpPbh Radtec in the UK are asking over £500: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161829417235?hash=item25adc8f113:g:HrwAAOSwTkVd53kf A replacement in alloy from the Czech Republic might be cheaper than metal originals, a brand new alloy in this link is £148: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274874926323?hash=item3fffd284f3:g:TygAAOSwIMtfQK0B James Paddock are £165 for a new wide metal replacement, but add VAT and carriage. There are good s/h rads out there, you get what you pay for, not all of them are rusty nightmares so you may find a good one, and it may work out a lot cheaper than having yours brazed or repaired - however it's always a gamble. My last Herald rad has just cost me £180 uprated to a modern core so that's the price of professional refurbishment over her, but with a 3 year guarantee. It just comes down to your budget. AlanT
Thanks Colin. I may give Dave at the Spit Graveyard a call then. Alan
