mark powell
This is not a question, but a solution. I've been putting up with a shriek from the water pump on my Herald pick up (and in it's previous life as an estate) for some time. Always on application of a fairly heavy right foot. Enough was enough, ordered the correct 1500 Spit pump from Paddocks and fitted yesterday. Bliss! no more shriek. Apologies for an innocuous post. Pete Lewis
was this the pump or the incorrect mix of pulley Vee and belt size ???? Pete

JohnD
Always worth a WD40 test. It could be a worn fan belt shrieking, and a quick spray will silence it. Not for long, but tells you what needs replacing. John

mark powell
Did all the above, no difference. Ran for a mo' with belt removed, all quiet. New pump, all good.
johny
In the good old days I believe the pumps came with a grease nipple for maintaining the offending bearings☹️

johny
Id imagine the bearings in Mark's old pump feel rough to spin as well...

Yep, put the body in the vice and span it up with a stripping wheel in the electric drill... SKREEE.
johny
Believe theyre all made in India these days so who knows what bearings they use but they do usually last longer than the seal! Think these go quite often because they stick after being left stationary for long periods and then get damaged on first start up. Ive had some that reseal and others that dont however there is a company recommended by some on here that install an uprated seal in your old pump plus new bearings and then guarantee it for life - seriously thinking of using them next time round.... Badwolf
Johny - I agree with you. I still have my old pump, probably well beyond a refurb now but still thinking it just might be worth having it looked at and if still workable keeping it as a spare for when the replacement goes. johny
Cant see age or condition being a problem as long as the impellor isnt too corroded. They machine the pump to accept the new seal and say they can do any type of pump....
