  1. When you unscrew the big jet housing nut to withdraw the jet and sealing dont forget its easy to drop it all down the drain , and you will get wet from the petrol in the chamber maybe a comfy chair and tray on the dinning table is on the cards dont tell Doug , he will want you to use a dishwasher pete
  2. You can drop the jet assy and adjuster out without removing the carbs pete
  3. care of Canley, have a look at 51 52 53 the jet has 0 ring, the top support bush has alloy washer to seal it, any missing or scored up will let fuel out from around the jet holder not through the jet orifice Pete
  4. The wife wouldnt understand any of that pete
  5. I can remember the joke but forgot what its all about I get to the top of the stairs but nowt happens these days I blame those bl**dy slippers Pete
  6. honour and offer sounds a old plan. a lot can be done with it in situ, ,, understanding the float is best off buckeye triumphs have some good clues , never mind its aimed at TR , the basics are all the same http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/Carbs/CarbsI/CarbsI.htm as for yellow that sounds a bit low temperature sparks jumping is the coil correct and is the condenser working ???? and Derek yes Blue on colour tune is good, yellow is rich,, firing blanks is weak Ive always found the ears tell you a similar story even as rough as that sounds better ...!! pic of double armed float
  7. Double it over and a twist of wire Dont tell my doctor pete
  8. Yes rent a crowd or bags of sand , for any static geometry needs Doug, Dont think we will be doing wallingford this year , (has bad memories of impact on a herald) and other runs are planned for a change but if the suns out and im free , who knows Why does this ruddy tablet keep using leters for space bar Grrr nuts pete
  9. Many brush but you can end up with particles of wire brush down the ceramic and then sparks take a short cut, really any doubt about a plug is best binned and start with fresh you can look at them all day but you cant see what happens when they are under combustion pressures, which can make the spark leap out all over the place , there used to be air shot blast cleaners about which could apply 90 psi air pressure , when you did that test it you could see the spark move its exit point pete
  10. Strombegs dont realy suffer from float needle problems but the magic slives of hose can end up jamming the back of the valve And nothing lasts for ever , the seats do wear out its worth checking the float height and on later carbs there are two valve arms you can fit the float upsidedown you will have a thames barrier style choke not an enrichment valve , so providing the air dam is flat with the throat ..its off. make sure no gaskets are masking the front face ports make sure the plugs dont have an R in the letters check the 0 rings on the jet are sound and the top boss sealing washers are fitted if you femove the top cover check looking downnthe two vacuum holes in the bottom of the air piston are facing the engine then you know the diaphragm is in correctly located
  11. Thats good, as I said the gap on the rota acts as a spark intensifyer this might affect plug life but its another call that there are some cases these fail early whilst I begin to think somethings changed , we dont have exact circumstances , every engine hiccup will have differing events surrounding the faults whatever plugs are the life and soul of the engine. pete
  12. Did the inner pair have a step /shoulder to locate the bush centrally. ? Where as some the rubber has a shoulder, what ever the basic design is it has to stop the rod fouling inside the turret hole so there is a washer or stepped bush to keep it centralized pete
  13. Maybe, but What were the numbers /spec of the ngk you took out pete
  14. Aiden, do make sure the plugs dont have a R in the suffix , that corks up the HT and does cause problems , just had another car in trouble with some R plugs fitted pete
  15. Oops !!!!! That went well along with the gearbox youre having a good start to the season now how to get the grease out, pete
  16. Ive been fighting a area MkIV misfire ,which runs fine for 3 minutes then really play up, been through everthing and getting rather peeved its had new plugs , and with senior moments after ripping the car apart , pulled a plug itsngot a ruddy R in the suffix, something I know all about but the idea escaped the grey stuff so we had 2 BP6ES bright and white, and 2BPR6ES black and sooty, our coils wont fire resistive plugs , I know that , but missed the obvious. Its them darn slippers at work anyway after hair pulling and teeth nashing and feeling a right R's the R's have gone must try harder Pete
  17. the leak is all part of a auto drain design to keep them selling oil. , Pete
  18. Ive now got a area car playing up with no obvious culprits is this contagious pete
  19. Think we have all found it pays to shop around there is often stuff on ebay for wild inflated prices including incorrect descriptions like 45D4 dizzy which apparently fit 6cly engines , well they will fit , but !!!! will try to search the front rear trunnion blank sizes for nipples tomorrow.
  20. Will it mend false teeth ?? I was always going to fit auto chassis lubrication as we had loads in the factory, a couple of tubes up to the baulkhead with a central nipple so you could refill the trunnions without getting on the floor pete
  21. If the gauge is reading ok , then you can take out shims from under the pressure relief valve spring change the low psi switch is the first cheapest option, and drive , dont take a seemingly sound engine apart ... daves spot on with the triumph spec pete
  22. Rimmers only seem to show 366 used across the range canley shown366 as unavailable use 267 these are all shown for herald spit vitesse Gt6 std shockers none were specific to the 1600 which uses the same as every other small chassis Pete
  23. Its a bad idea to collapse any hose to blank it off it will struggle to recover you are crushing the rubber and canvass reinforcing , metal braided would be disaster, just because its done and there tools to do it doesnt make it good. pete
  24. good old triumph, its not in the hardware catalogue but if you search a whole variety of suppliers one pops up with a size .... strangely some greasers are UNF theres no such thing as standard in............. Standard Pete
