  1. Thanks Clive , I hadn’t considered the screws so will check Paul
  2. Hi , my Vitesse is fitted with Accuspark ignition . I have a set of points as a backup . Is is as simple case of taking off the Accuspark and fitting the points then tweaking the timing ?
  3. Hi Pete . I thought if you reduce the distance between the B posts the boot gaps would increase ? Paul
  4. It’s surprising the effect the acrylic spray has . I used 2 coats Pail
  5. I got acceptable results by using Autosol than applying a lacquer spray from Toolstation , might need applying annually Paul

  8. I’ll let you know 😱 Pretty sure the new seal will be ok . To be sure I’ll put a section of inner tube in a jar of petrol and leave Paul
  9. Yes make the initial cut as per the pic then force the top section into the hub centre , then trim with scissors in line with the top of the remaining tabs Hold the section in a vice then apply glue liberally to secure Paul
  10. The Mintex 1144’s are now fitted to my Vitesse . The pads were metric so location holes enlarged to 7mm using these drills . initially the step drill then a 6mm followed by a 7mm . The lever was used to push back the pads to make the swop over easier Just need an excuse to bed them in . In another post did JohnD “volunteer” to compare the £10 pads with Mintex . If so more than happy to post the £10 pads to assist with the test Paul
  11. It’s used to strengthen “minilite” hub centres when a securing tab breaks off . The mod works , kept in place with UHU glue Paul
  12. Hi stopped using the lockable petrol cap on my Vitesse as the sealing rubber had perished . Just had a go at replacing the sealing washer . Turned out to be easier than I thought . Remove the securing pin at the top , remove the workings . The seal can now be removed . I made another with 2 layers of inner tube glued together . Reassemble job done Petrol cap rubbers are subject to mot check . Paul
  13. My first port of call for supplies is https://www.canleyclassics.com. Canleys also have useful works diagrams to identify the part you don’t know the name of . Paul
  14. If you haven’t checked your MOT history go to https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk . This will give you some idea of jobs to be checked Paul
  15. If you rely on a garage to maintain your Herald it will be a money pit . My experience started 5 years ago when I bought my Vitesse . I hadn’t got a clue and initially the car needed a replacement differential and gearbox . The cost of these 2 items was almost as much as I paid for the car. Expensive lesson learnt and I had to make a decision. Cut my losses and sell the Vitesse or learn to maintain the car myself . Luckily I had joined this forum and the TSSC Club which has so much knowledge available just for the asking . I had no mechanical experience so my Vitesse journey started . You can get a lot of satisfaction with maintaining the car and there’s so much help when things don’t go according to plan . Paul
  16. Yes that’s the same spec I purchased from EBay , lasted 6 months , started to melt from the inside forming a paste which blocked the carbs despite having filters . Gates Barricade now fitted Paul
  17. From personal experience I can’t recommend Andrew Turner . There’s enough experience on here to help you refurb . With the benefit of hindsight that’s what I should have done . Paul
  18. From my Mk2 Vitesse saloon , any use . I’ve moved on to inertia belts Paul
  19. Re core plugs i attacked close to the edge with and old screwdriver . Once through the core plug was distorted which assists with levering the plug out . If stubborn continue around close to the edge next to the first hole opening up like a tin opener . Eventually the core plug will come out Paul
  20. Hi John, welcome to the forum . I have a mk2 vitesse and added the rear bracket conversion kit available from the club shop which replaces the Armstrong dampers with vertical Gaz shock absorbers . The rest of the setup is standard though replaced , renewed the rotoflexes , UJs , wheel bearings and added poly bushes . The setup works well for me with a slight negative camber Paul
  21. Hi Pete too early to say . Currently the front brakes are crap because of cheapo £10 pads . Just fitted new Mintex 1144’s . One side to complete then I can test Paul
  22. Paul H

    20 50 or EP90

In a very senior moment I think I’ve added 20/50 into an empty tin of EP90 . Is there a way of telling the 2 apart Paul
  23. I reused mine the Canleys replacements didn’t fit . Hopefully the correct way round this time plus removed the packed grease in the hub centre which I had carefully filled . I now know not to do this. In my defence the WSM shoes the felt side facing the bearing . Paul
