  1. I got mine from Rally Design for the Vitesse 6 and Vitesse Mk2 (metric calipers), prices seemed good. Adrian
  2. Hi Ian My plan if it ever happens is to run cables behind the stainless trim across the back of the roof and hopefully down to the rear deck. If not that way then into the roof space sealing the hole around the cable and run it down the inside of the left rear pillar like the interior light cable on the Vitesse. As the car is still a work in progress now is the best time to do this. Adrian
  3. I have an idea of fitting the high stop into the stainless steel trim across the back of the Vitesse/Herald roof. I have a few spares of that trim to work with. Need to give it a bit more thought but hope it will work. Adrian
  4. It works fine on the 6 cylinder. Cables are not that hard to access once fitted, just as always disconnect the battery end first.🤪 And IIRC a new drain hole is advisable but that is easy to do Adrian
  5. Hi Peter Bosch F 042 000 135 Mine came from Ebay AU Auto8 store and the list below is for Australia and NZ. UK had Isuzu so just check the engine numbers, it might also have been used in GM other vehicles. Adrian
  6. I used water out of our dehumidifer over a week or so to fill up the Vitesse 6, other wise the water goes down the drain or on the plants Being fortunate to live in an area that doesnt freeze (mild frosts) I just use an anti corrosive in the water to treat it. Keep it simple. Adrian
  7. Isuzu trooper 2.6 litre petrol starter motor will bolt in but you do need to decrease the thickness of the Triumph starter motor packer ring. Still available brand new, I fitted a Bosch from Australia. Motor spins like it has lost compression! All the info is found on the site below https://www.teglerizer.com/triumphstuff/73gt6br_tropperstarter.htm Adrian
  8. My VW Amarok uses Penrite 5-30 full syn enviro+ but I see Penrite now have an oil for use in it that is specced for when out of warranty Penrite 5-30 full syn enviro+ eu. I have no idea what the difference is or could be. Vitesse 6 is Penrited in the engine gearbox and diff. Adrian
  9. As a long time reader of Car magazine I liked Jamie Kitmans articles. I read this one when it was published a while ago and thought it was worth looking up again and sharing. https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/secret-history-lead/ Adrian

    2.5 Vitesse?

Looks to me like the wheelbarrow handles are not symmetrical.🤨 Nice looking car though Adrian

  12. Looking at the spec these 1144 pads might do the job for a type 12 caliper https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=9784 Adrian
  13. Ditto. I bought 2 off Ebay UK and they keep on going and going My first one was a Black and Decker but the price wanted for a replacement was daft and the Makita one was silly money. Two Silverlines including shipping to NZ for less then the price of a B & D locally. Adrian
  14. Or even better I am watching it at work today. Adrian
  15. It was as though when VW designed the Amarok they wondered if some one would carry a 13/60 bonnet in the back. It was a perfect fit with the bonnet upside down and across the tray between the wheel arches. Unfortunately the seller also had a pair of Vitesse guards that I could not refuse and got them for less than the price of one from the usual suppliers excluding post to NZ. They will stay in the back of the Amarok till the coming weekend when I get time to sort out storing them. Adrian
  16. Anything is better than the rotten pair I have at present. One is on the Mk2 CV and the other is a spare without a hoop that I saved from being scrapped. I think somewhere I have a set of metal work for mounting the Vitesse headlights that I cut out of old bonnets many many years ago so I might not have to touch the genuine bonnets. Be good practice with the new welding helmet🙃 Adrian
  17. Thanks Paul. It looks like it will fit in the back of the Amarok as it measures 1555mm long and 1620mm wide, or 1222mm between the arches. Adrian Just have to remove the shelf I put in which is easy.
  18. Fingerfiles are fantastic tools. Not the cheapest sanding/grinding tool in NZ but bloody handy I bought my first one late one friday when welding up a S1 Landrover bulkhead. The curve on the end of the belt was the perfect shape for the piece I was welding and I had no other way to grind down the weld neatly. On another metal finishing note I have recently been using a cheap belt sander as a linisher. I couldn't be arsed dragging my big linisher around and the belt sander got into corners that are no go with the big beast.
  19. Does anyone have the length, width and depth of a 13/60 bonnet. I have purchased one and need to pick it up from a 4 hour drive north. I do not have access to my Vitesse at present. It will be trailer, roofrack or back of Amarok. I have 3 Vitesse bonnets for 2 cars and only one of them is good so I intend to rebuild the front panel on one of the bonnets then remove it and fit it too the 13/60 one, yes I know the side panels are a different shape. To buy a front panel and get it shipped to NZ is silly money. Adrian
  20. I would imagine the issue would be that once the skin is removed from a Triumph door it would a bit floppy. You would need to introduce bracing which could work as impact bars and also reverse gear in the door so it is accessible from then outside not inside. Yes I have thought about it myself after seeing the VW door. Adrian

    Welding Helmets

For many years I have owned a decent mig welder but have always bought the cheapest helmets. Like most I have gone from passive helmets then when they came along I got speed glass finally getting a cheap true colour version. But I was never very happy with the speedglass ones I owned and now have a collection of 3 acquired over the last 10 years. Last year I bought a decent ACDC TIG welder after watching the welder at work use his but when I used it I had trouble seeing what I was doing. This is no excuse for my bad welding skills as I still have to learn how to TIG but I reckon being able to see is important when using the welder. This year we have a new welder at work and I saw his 3m speedglass welding helmet and commented that it looked flash and he said it was the best he ever used. As I do my work at the beginning of the day and end of the day but have to stay on site incase of changes I decided to spend that day researching what was available in decent speedglass true colour helmets. The 3m model was ridiculous money so I settled on a Lincoln Viking which rated extremely well and was only stupid money. As I do overtime nearly everyday I used this money to pay for the helmet. I also bought a set of 1.5x and 2x optics to fit behind the screen so I won't always have to wear glasses when welding, these where something I never knew existed. Today was christening day for the new helmet and what a difference it makes even though I was only using my MIG machine, the true colour big screen is amazing to use as you can see so much more than the post box slots of my other helmets and there is no heavy green tint to the glass before welding . Weld mode level 12 still allows me to see the weld without being too bright. I am able to adjust the head band to fit perfectly on my over sized bonce and it is well balanced and comfortable. I am very happy with this purchase and while it will not make me a better welder it will at least allow me to see the mess I am making as I make it instead of after I take the helmet off. Adrian
  22. Received this in an email today, hope it of us to someone https://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclefeeds.php?carcode=1293825&m=wc&l=en&html=true Adrian
  23. Today I walked into a garage to see the mechanic working on a late model VW door. What caught my attention was the outer skin had been unbolted to enable access into the door leaving a fully functioning door still bolted to the car, even the side intrusion bars could be unbolted. It reminded me of those medical dummies that have no skin exposing all the gubbins that keep us functioning. What a fantastic idea and a shame that Triumph didnt invent this back in the 1950s. Adrian
  24. Following this thread with interest. My Vitesse 6 has similar issues but I can see the oil slowly coming out of the rocker lock screw when I remove it. My engine had a horrid cobbled up Mk2 rocker shaft fitted when I started work on it during lockdown but I managed to find enough parts in my spares to build up a Mk1 version with similar spec rockers ( I found 3 different sizes/weights and oil holes). Rockers are heavily treated with rebuild grease. Rocker is eerily quiet for a Triumph and all gaps are good. Oil pressure is excellent after I managed to prime the pump and system and I believe the cam is a standard Triumph one though from what engine I am unsure. This damned being back at work means the Vitesse is being neglected till I finish the contract that keeps stretching out. Was supposed to be done this month but looking at Christmas and restarting in January. Jeep up the good work Iain and hopefully you will solve my issue too😉 Adrian
  25. I will possibly regret doing that one as those locks are nasty. But I can order a new one locally in NZ from Comac and hopefully spec the key number if need be.
