  1. I usually just back mine off one side or one click... have I been doing it wrong all along? Tighten up until fully locked then back off one click or notch, as the WSM says?
  2. My Mk1 GT6 manifold blew into two pieces on a run back from Doune Show; I had to replace with a stainless manifold as having it repaired was both very complicated and very expensive by comparison - John's explanation is probably the correct way to do it (possibly it could be repaired with just a hole rather than a fracture) but I was told at the time, about 2001, that it couldn't be repaired.
  3. Fascinating. I'm totally in awe of anyone who can do things like this, so keep us updated. In fact, have mercy on us lesser mortals who are completely in the dark and let me know what parts you would automate - is is simply just engine management, or are we talking lights, wipers etc?
  4. I've had one of those in the Freelander for ages now and they're good, got it from LIDL. I just remove it every so often and wash clean. I never got round to trimming off the excess, it just sits up at each side.
  5. Mmmm that reminds me... I have a Galaxy ripple in the fridge. Looks the same but harder to light... well us non-smokers have to have other vices.
  6. Depends on when it was made, Spring or Autumn. Everyone knows clocks go forward in Spring and back in Autumn... I'll get me coat.
  7. It's an hour earlier today than it was yesterday. Did you remember?
  8. A few of those about... but I'd have to slow down to let them catch up with me... However: seeing as it's a Herald, I would.
  9. It's hidden under the plastic. Glasses time, Pete!
  10. It would have to be this one... I'd even stop for them.
  11. Yes, they've been recommended before and I've found them to have all sorts of great things - I bought thirty spire clips for the rear lights from them last month and they worked a treat. I actually went out today, limited myself to an hour as I'm getting garage fatigue from struggling with the same jobs day after day for up to eight or even ten hours throughout the course of the day, and the other trim fitted first time. So did the speaker, which had refused to line up with the mounting holes for days now, so I think the car is getting the message: work with me, or you can sit in a dark garage and think about what you did wrong.
  12. Yeah, I've had neighbours like that too.
  13. He brought sickness back to the village!! Burn him!! And his Triumph...
  14. I would love to, but I took the daughter's Fiesta down the street this morning after replacing the front pads and got a lot of dirty looks from people standing in their doorways. Imagine the looks if I was in the GT6... small village, lot of big opinions and rumourmongers...
  15. Very, very nice work. If only they'd stay that clean and shiny.
  16. It's a Triumph of engineering, that's for sure.
  17. My local company - Caulfield - require a 'club valuation' plus photographs for higher values. I'm hoping that the TSSC valuation will be as required in the event of a claim, but I'll discuss with the Insurers on submission. It's not due for renewal until August anyway. The TSSC panel members were almost three times the quote of Caulfields so they got the business.
  18. That's a fuel injection setup. The black pipes you can see are fuel lines, not plug leads; they're the red ones on the other side. Nice SAH rocker - is it from a GT6 Mk3?
  19. It's a Lucas ok but doesn't have the adjustable park - no terminal on the round cover, which doesn't appear to rotate (although I could be wrong, just looking at the photo I can't make out the join) but there's usually a terminal on top. The case has been painted silver at some stage.
  20. Ahhhhh... so what if I'm using another company who also require a valuation - just leave it blank?
  21. Is it your name that goes in the red bit about 'TSSC Insurance Panel Member', then?
  22. Aha.. I like the sound of that. I can rivet, at least. If I get the car rebuilt in time for the MOT and it passes then since I can't really drive it for pleasure these days I'll probably rebuild the entire seat base, so that's another job salted away for lockdown.
  23. Thanks Doug / Stewart - I've managed to modify the existing webbing by cutting and bending the hooks, which gave almost two inches of contraction on each strap. It's tighter but not ideal. The seats really need new foams but I'm trying to get to MOT on Thursday so no time for a full revamp. I'd like to make my own, Doug, but my sewing is on a par with my welding... in other words, get someone else to do it, and at present they're all self-isolating... and of course I gave my copy of the Courier away just this morning to a potential new member. Perfect timing as usual...
