  1. It was selling about forty miles from me so no doubt I'll see it over the Summer, and have a look at the engine bay which for some reason was not in the photos. That wasn't a bad price (£1870) for someone to take it on and get it back to normal. There are a lot of clues about the car that point to an elderly owner so it's probably been well polished.
  2. I won't advocate doing it without other reinforcement, particularly as Pete says with the door catches at the very least. That's my personal opinion only, but I feel it's got the potential for a serious accident.

    Oil filter

Mine too, filter is anti-drain and at 45 degrees, no problems for years now.
  4. Interesting thread on Pistonheads on this - found it when I was trying to find out why we don't have 99 RON over here. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=923761&i=0 I also did find out why I can't find any 99 RON over here: https://www.change.org/p/tesco-99-ron-for-ni
  5. I had one of the earlier ones, no idea why it was in that colour though... nor what I ever did with it!
  6. A stunning original car with: side indicators, Austin sidelights, rear wiper and reinforcing plates on the bootlid screws? Ai yai yai. (BTW Is it meant to have the four-dial dashboard?)
  7. I know nothing of the science of porting or gas-flowing heads, but will try a guess here: it that the maximum to which a head can be ported out without weakening it? So: if they make them this shape, then any shape or mod of head is likely to be within the d-shaped aperture they have cut? A sort of one-size-covers-all template for the flange?
  8. Cards will never catch on and replace cash completely, there'll always be a need for washers.
  9. True, but only if I go back again..... Anyway, didn't we used to use 1p pieces in the Waxstat conversions back in the day? THAT was a cheap fix.
  10. Photos? We love Mk1s! (Well I do anyway.)
  11. My thoughts exactly! There's a difference between d and p, and not just that you can go for a p. It's a bit like talking about an imperial metric spanner. Thankfully as John says our coinage is robust; the same can't be said of these plastic notes, which won't even make a decent paper aeroplane any more.
  12. One of mine was totally amazed that my GT6 was still on the road, considering what they'd done with it during their ownership, which is the reason I had to totally rebuild it in the early 2000s. The more recent owner kept his mouth shut, for some reason, before selling it to me...
  13. 1968 coins were prototypes; I have one lying about somewhere and researched it when I saw the date. I think the 10p coins came in around 1969 and all others followed within a year or two. Being a lazy b..... I just use Danish coins which have the hole already drilled.... brought a few home with me last time and have no other use for them.
  14. Those end fixing holes (top photo) have either broken off or been deliberately widened. You'll probably end up using a large washer to hold that on, or look for a replacement grille.
  15. I love strawberry jam but hate strawberries. It's a texture thing (hate onions too.) Anyone remember Kunzle cakes? Saw them mentioned recently. (the showboat ones!)
  16. Sort of an early version of the viscous then, moves more air when needed and then when at higher speeds, moves less.
  17. Nice. I'm getting to grips with one myself at present, but where you've had the work done, I'm in the middle of it all.... Be prepared for a few requests for reference photos!
  18. Sings: "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere..... New Car, New Car..... " I'd give up my day job if I had one.
  19. I'm not sure they're actually dead...
  20. Mon Joo!! I thought I had the only one of those, and it was a one-off.... definitely not safe for fingers.
  21. I complained the other night about two drinks costing £9.80, and darling daughter - who is a student in Belfast - brought me up to date by telling me that she regularly pays £7 for a drink, or £12 for cocktails.... I think my wallet still thinks it's the 1980s and wants change from a fiver after buying a whole round.
  22. Anyone ever tried the Aerofan with the spring-loaded blades? I've got one, but never used it... sounds good in theory though.
  23. I love the smell of Waxoyl in the mornings, I usually liquidise it over a gas ring before it goes into the gun and into the chassis; someday it's going to blow up but until then, wonder if flavouring it with something nice would affect the wax treatment?
