  1. I love strawberry jam but hate strawberries. It's a texture thing (hate onions too.) Anyone remember Kunzle cakes? Saw them mentioned recently. (the showboat ones!)
  2. Sort of an early version of the viscous then, moves more air when needed and then when at higher speeds, moves less.
  3. Nice. I'm getting to grips with one myself at present, but where you've had the work done, I'm in the middle of it all.... Be prepared for a few requests for reference photos!
  4. Sings: "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere..... New Car, New Car..... " I'd give up my day job if I had one.
  5. I'm not sure they're actually dead...
  6. Mon Joo!! I thought I had the only one of those, and it was a one-off.... definitely not safe for fingers.
  7. I complained the other night about two drinks costing £9.80, and darling daughter - who is a student in Belfast - brought me up to date by telling me that she regularly pays £7 for a drink, or £12 for cocktails.... I think my wallet still thinks it's the 1980s and wants change from a fiver after buying a whole round.
  8. Anyone ever tried the Aerofan with the spring-loaded blades? I've got one, but never used it... sounds good in theory though.
  9. I love the smell of Waxoyl in the mornings, I usually liquidise it over a gas ring before it goes into the gun and into the chassis; someday it's going to blow up but until then, wonder if flavouring it with something nice would affect the wax treatment?
  10. Oops... anything we can be allowed to know?
  11. That's an amazing interior; a very unusual and certainly pleasing colour. Welcome aboard and health to drive!
  12. I'm assuming the Op has a standard setup? Put it in either and adjust the setting accordingly. Top hose will be hotter; bottom hose cooler. The only Kenlowe I ever fitted (years ago to a Spitfire) had the sensor in the top hose and I suppose this location makes for a better monitoring of the actual engine heat, as opposed to how well the radiator is cooling; but for one of my other cars I bought a sensor that fits into the actual hose, which meant that the top hose would be too short to take the pipe it was set into and it had to go in the bottom one, with the sensor then fitted for the optimum temperature range. So: from that, I don't think there's any hard or fast rule.
  13. A few years back I queried a Herald wiring loom that had over six feet of purple cable for the driver's side courtesy light switch; it only required about six inches. The manufacturer told me that he had supplied hundreds, and no-one else ever complained... but to his credit he told me that now he was aware, he'd shorten all accordingly. Maybe now THEY know about the diff studs, too....
  14. That's poor manufacture, and even worse quality control. That might have ended up killing somebody.
  15. I was blasting TR7 parts last week in the cabinet and reached too far forward so the glove slipped off the mounting inside the cabinet... I decided to keep going and ended up with one completely black arm between the end of the glove and my shoulder. That stuff gets everywhere! (Aluminium oxide granules) It gives you a finish like no other... wire brushing just isn't the same. I've a Herald bodytub needing blasting so I'll take it to a local shotblaster rather than do it outdoors at home and have the stuff blowing everywhere.
  16. That PC graph is based on opinion more than fact. Cars are only worth what you think they are, and not what everyone else thinks, especially someone who wants to buy one. Insurance values don't reflect the real world price, but are a combination of factors. I'd never get £18000 for my GT6 even though it does win prizes locally. I'm also debating the wisdom of the line: "Originality is only prized with the earliest cars"... really? That's from someone who probably uses the term 'modern classic' a lot.
  17. When you replace the felt seal you'll find them hard to fit unless it's an NOS original, they all seem to have been made by drawing around an old one so they're slightly too large, and distort easily. More than once I've taken new felt and glued it onto the original backing, which then slips straight in with no pressure required.
  18. Never tried them, Danny, but in checking eBay for seat covers I found these.... at least they'd be warm! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/White-Grey-WARM-WINTER-Plush-2-Front-Seat-Cover-Cushions-Decoration-138-63-cm/182882928075?fits=Car+Make%3ATriumph|Model%3ATR+7&epid=10008839303&hash=item2a94ac05cb:g:OVUAAOSw6WFaAU8J
  19. As with all things on my cars it comes down to cost; the GT6 has poly front and rear, all suspension, diff etc but with the TR I'm finishing the front in poly (better steering / less vagueness) but may leave the rear in rubber (albeit new as the original is really shot). It's open to debate at present as the poly bushes are really fit and forget, and a good selling point, but I don't yet know if the mileage I'll be doing is worth the extra cost. One big issue is the quality of new bushes - will they last any length of time? I don't intend to have to redo the work in a year or two, when the bushes have deteriorated due to age and not mileage. I'm almost talking myself into poly all round, here....
  20. Or in cars at the end of the month when pay-day was late in coming..... I used 3 star on more than one occasion in those days....
  21. If nothing else you can get a more modern bolt-on: https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/boot-rack-bolt-on-chrome-aha5467.html https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/boot-rack-bolt-on-stainless-steel-gac4002ss.html https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/boot-rack-us-factory-style-stainless-steel-gac4003b.html Moss seem to be the most prominent suppliers; Revington TR have one but it's for the TR6 and may be too big for Spitfires.
  22. It does, so many thanks. I use O/D third for town centre driving; just flick it in or out from the column switch and it's very simple without taking your hands off the wheel, but I find that O/D 4th makes quite a difference for higher speed cruising eg dual carriageways or motorways. Mine is a J-type from a Dolomite 18/50 so no idea of the ratio, but it feels so much more relaxed.
  23. If you like them, go for it. I've had them on Landrovers and now on the TR7 and never had any trouble from them. I changed my early GT6 from the six-blade metal fan to a plastic late GT6 version which i reckon is a good improvement, but never felt the need for anything else ie electric.
