  1. 220W on a 4 headlamp system. Is pushing the envelope for the standard wiring and switchgear. (@12V nom that is 18+amps) Even if the Alternator/Dynamo was outputiing 14V it`s still 15+amps. Add in the resistance of older wiring and terminations, it is little wonder that cable heats up!. Fitting Relays, and upgrading the wiring has to be beneficial?. I used 4mm/56 strand cable to wire in 200W of solar panels on the Previous Motohome, with an efficiency of (say) 20%/30% one will rarely get more than 5Amps on a good day, and more often far less than that. Pete
  2. The ones that seem to be very hard to find are the “blind” ones that fix the rear trim panels, amongst other things. Or maybe I’m not looking in the right places? Pete
  3. Jeeze, I`ve seen smaller Anchor chains!. Do the winds get that strong?. Intriguing thought Tho`=== Why? Pete
  4. Update on the fenders. Plum looking trim with the New/old Alloy ones. They are screwwed on at present, As I will need to fettle a bit more over the winter. Pete
  5. Just before lockdowns one of mine over the bench decided to throw its hand in. What I did was go on flea bay and get 10 meters of self adhesive strip led and a 240 to 12v transformer rectifier. Removed the fluorescent tube ballast etc and and reengineered the existing fitting. instant bright. With the advantage that it could even be run off 12v battery if required. So far it is more than adequate. As they fail I will likely repeat the process with the others Pete
  6. The Fish and Chips in the Pub on the quayside. Where to die for back then. Nearly as good as back up here if fact. Pete
  7. My understanding of combustion is that it is the Vapour gas that actually burns. We had to heat marine heavy fuel to over 80C before it would even pump. And in excess of that to burn properly. It’s largely how quickly the fuel vaporises that governs the rate of flame propagation. Which is why fuel injection is by and large more efficient. Always assuming the ratio of fuel to oxygen is within the upper and lower limits. Pete
  8. Charmouth used to be part of my “district” back then there was a Hotel that had an ancient “still” steam tea boiler gas fired which had to be examined annually. Nice little place a bit bleak in the dead of winter though. Palmers Brewery in Bridport was one of my annual jobs too. Preferred EP though. Even better was the Badger brewery at Blandford. Always came out of there with freebie or two. The cob at Lyme was where the classic film shots where made for The French Lieutenants Woman. West bay was the location for Broadchurch. Amorite’s where regularly pulled out of Portland Quarry. I had 2 on the rockery in Yeovil. Curtesy of the owner who’s showman’s steamer I used to examine. Memories, prompted by just a tiny reference.? Pete
  9. G-4 Capule Bulb`s. I replaces many of the Halogens in the M-H with them. Pete
  10. Some, Tyres are directional, The give away is an arrow on the side wall, which may even be on the inner wall. Not all "tyre fitters" are fully aware. Pete
  11. Oooop`s. Forgot that LED`s are indeed in the majority Polarity sensitive. But I have G-4 LED`s in the Motorhome which will work in either orientation. Pete
  12. I`m begining to suspect the issue is with the LED light set?. Maybe from another source they may function?. Pete
  13. There appears to be "Programable" Canbus controllers "out there" by the look of it?. (https://www.avionitech.com/en/controller?gclid=Cj0KCQjwusunBhCYARIsAFBsUP-DTtH0O7fdi9IvaRrkoLmAZsr3ujJUdMNseVS73gCV8s2ruDKGyGgaAh6UEALw_wcB) I assume the issue would be in determining the correct device for your specific aplication?. Pete
  14. Mystifying?, I have changed ALL the interior lights in the Motorhome with absolutely no problems. (my) Only theory is that the LED`s are not being recognised by the "canbus" controller on the freelander?, which would be setup resistively to suit the higher resistance of the Bulb`s. Adding the no LED`s, would to my, limited experience/knowledge increase the overall resitance to a level the canbus controler can recognise. IF, my theory is correct, then the only solution is to find a Trailer canbus controler which is specifically setup for LED`s? Pete
  15. Managed to get thier site up and got one out of Canley, for 13 quid(ish).👍. Worth it to get the Swapround sorted. Pete

    Two post car lift

Prior to about 195*? ish. The vast majority of garage lifts had been single post hydraulic lifts. Many where still in service when I was Inspecting in the 80/90`s. (Suposedly) every 10 years they should have been removed and the Vessel/cylinder examined for corrosion. Considering they where buried up to 8ft underground, many garages elected to "disarm" them, some even removed the ram and filled the cylinder with a concrete mix. One of my last operational ones was at garage near Taunton. When I asked how long since the last inspection, the owner just looked at me blank, previous exminers had never bothered, just checked the tankage and safety relief devices. Most operators, had a large balk of timber which they jambed under the Piston to prevent slide back, there where no other safety devices beyond the pressure in the system!. Pete
  17. Line dancing, In a circle?.😁 Pete

    Two post car lift

Would have loved one. But none of my garages would have coped. Considered a pit when doing the build, only to find the water table was barely inches below the garage floor. Any pit would have had to be “tanked” at considerable extra cost. To add to the fact that we lived on a known flood plain even though at the highest point and did escape the worst of the 2007 flooding. My biggest loss was a number of large fish from the pond. Pete
  19. Machine mart have a simple 5 speed one on offer at present @ 120quid and by the look of it a further reduction to around £108.? Pete
  20. E-M`d them to see. Cannot find it on their website. Pete
  21. I repositioned the Reels further back, reinforcing the wheelarch in same fashion as the original (blanked off). This is how it looks, and does not foul the hood. "plum" has a similar layout as Fitted by Jeff, using the original mounting. But lack`s the B post bracket. Something I am Working on, to save having to fish for the belt every time. Pete
  22. Can I say, from BITTER experience, that unless you are planning on tapping huge numbers of holes. I would never recomend machine tapping. It is a guarateed way to break taps, however carefull you are, there is a tendency to produce ragged threads, even with the best lubricants and (proper?) machine taps are (or where) far more expensive than the standard comercial/DIY offerings. As an Aprentice and Journeyman. I spent manny (less than) "happy" hours using a spark machine to remove the broken taps from very very expensive forgings, castings and fabrications. Getting a decent outcome is hard, not imposible, to acheive. Pete
  23. Dug them out of the "Stash", they look pretty decent and are a complete set👍. Now to find the Alloy cleaner/polish?. Something else came up. The Dash Steering mount, is "Listed missing". I am sure it was there, but no sign of it in the "storage facility" (Shed), I think it`s Called :- (708098 Triumph Herald Steering Column Support Upper??). Without it I cannot get the steering back into the "kit of parts". And I now need to be thinking of moving it to storage, to bring "Plum" inside to work on over the winter. Anyone out there got one?. I know Rimmer don`t, and spitbits sold their last one recently. Canley`s website was down earlier. any suggestions?. Pete
  24. Given the option I would go for a single phase motor by and large converters are less overall efficient. My (1946) lathe has the motor drive on the wall above. I binned an old pillar drill some years back motor burned out Replaced with a £50 Aldi offering which has so far exceeded expectations👍 Pete
  25. I spoke with Greg Knight only yesterday at a local show. He confirmed that he is not standing at the next election. When I imported my first RV from the USA in the 90’s I paid no vat or import duty. It was classed as Personal effects because we had owned it for over 2 years.and it was registered to my sons Houston address. I can well see pre 1983 vehicles commanding a premium soon. Once the penny drops. Pete
