  1. I do remember Fred Dibnah?. Did he have a Triumph as well? Pete
  2. Update:- Just had a look, it was P-C. https://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/ But NOT cheap.!!. Pete
  3. Can`t find the reference. Might have been an old copy of Practical Classics? But I believe I have seen advertising for "period" radios the have been rebuilt with modern internals? Just how sophisticated I Have no idea. Pete
  4. Cheers, that`s the one I was looking at. I just have to carefully re-measure the length. Pete
  5. Was that from Baines?. No one else seems to have one currently, Cannley only show "NLA, to order only"?. If it works, I`ll go for it even if it needs assisting with adhesive. Pete
  6. Weepy olives, are mostly down to them not being annealed properly, if at all, I go for copper ones if I can get them, or dangle them on a wire in the gas ring until red and plunge into water or oil. A lot of outlets will sell 8mm olives for 5/16 too. Enough difference to allow leakage due to the tolerances. Pete
  7. Hmmm, “You can checkout anytime you like. But you can never leave” I took my test in Herald, curtesy of BSM, Feb 1960. Passed despite near throwing the examiner through the front screen, when a cyclist came off in the rain in front of us. Needless to say he didn’t ask for a “crash stop”. Pete
  8. Hi I ran 8mm O/D "copper" when I had the chassis stripped, there is an awakward section under the rear tub where there is a hose joint on the original, and one under the front tub too. I joined it with an 8mm "enots" fitting`s, and ran all the clips in protective plastic conduit. The hose section(s) under the body are not a very good example of "good engineering" Pete.
  9. Just been browsing their web site, I can see the side/window profile Ok. but the one designated "Header Rail" bears no resemblance to that which came off the car?. It appears to lack the "ears" that lock it into the rail? (Canley drawing, 61/609366). The one for the TR/Spit looks more like the profile?. What do you think?. Pete
  10. Sorry to say, but IMHO, it has all the charisma of a supository. Pete
  11. I`m up for replacing the seals on both sides, along with a new Front header seal. Any advises on where BEST to go?? (Quality/value for money). Pete
  12. I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it. Many an experienced mechanic has missed an earthing issue. Old vehicles can be notorious for bad/poor/missing earth returns. Pete

    Towing a Herald

I agree, probably designed to be shipping tie downs. likely never used, as most if not all the shipping back then was never provided with that provision, unless deck cargo. For ocasional towage, I have used a short chain wrapped around the frame and extended with rope. I once single handedly moved a Vittesse with no brakes either. Using a crude but effective drawbar. wouldnt try it again, but it was only a journey of about 3 miles, across Yeovil, one quiet early Sunday Morning, when one hoped🤞 the local constabulary where still asleep!. Pete.

    Towing a Herald

Would Item 4 be what is refered to?. In my view, wrong orientation for towing, in that it would apply a torque motion to the fastenings? Pete

    Towing a Herald

Believe it or not, the opposite is true, provided all the brakes operate, either by overrun or electric operation an “A” frame IS allowed..in the UK. I use one all the time. Over the last near 30 years I have towed a variety of cars. Even Automatics. Behind a selection of Motohomes and RV’s In this manner. Even in Europe. However Spain and Portugal forbid it. In the USA we did 21.000miles towing a Toyota Tacoma 4wd auto crew cab pickup, behind our Winnebago. Pete
  16. Thanks for that reminder. I need to "do" Plum. Pete
  17. Been taken off E-Bay, anyway. But It was the 2L. with overdrive. Just a Tad pricey IMHO. Pete

    Towing a Herald

OTT. for your needs I would Guess, But food for thought?. Pete
  19. If I recall, the last digits of the "DOT" code are the week/year of manufacture? Ie; 45/18. Would be 45th week of 2018?. Pete
  20. Hi if it’s the same seller, I went after a steel front valence he had on e-bay, before lockdowns. He wanted far more than what it was worth. I think he does a bit (lot?) of dealing on the side? Pete
  21. Would not be the first time a PO has fitted a replacement (even wrong?) for a broken spring singly?. In my view springs should always be fitted in matched pairs. Pete
  22. The rumbling I just heard. was probably Father, Capenter and Shipwright, spinning in his grave at the abuse of woodworking tools.😂😁🤞. The sort of behaviour I would have got a thick ear for as a youngster☹️. Pete
  23. I`ve used "A" frames for towing Manual cars since the mid 90`s, when I had my first R-V. I`ve also used trailers for Auto`s. The subject causes a great deal of argument on Motorhome web site`s😂. Virtually impossible to reverse more that a couple of yards!!.🙄. But a decent tool for the Job nevertheless. 21.000 miles and 27 US states towing a Toyota Tacoma 4WD Auto Pickup, behind a 1999 Winnebago Adverturer. "Dollys" the devices that raise the front wheels off the ground to tow are actually ONLY legal in the UK for the recovery of a genuine broken down vehicle, hence rarely seen outside of the recovery trade. Pete
  24. Assuming the engine turns by hand,? The issue is most likely that the starter motor is having to work twice as hard cranking a newly rebuilt. and by definition possibly “tight” engine. “Adequate” for the old conditions does not automatically ensure it is up to the same task now? The earth strap getting hot is also likely to be a bad earth connection. Try again with a heavy booster cable from a clean bright spot on the starter. Direct to the battery negative. I assume it is neg earth? Here. Pete
