  1. More of the "stuff we did". Much of which would get the "Elf & safety" Police wanting to "flog" and clap you in irons to-day. Nowt wrong with that, they where all asbestos back in the day anyway!. "We" burned old engine oil back then too, one way to keep garage warm!. I understand that`s a "flogging" offence now? Pete
  2. 😂, Your in good company there!. My Grandkids must think I`ve lost the complete plot at times!. At the moment one option, comes down to putting a cheap "party tent" to keep the bird droppings etc off the job, in the barn belonging to the son of an old collegue, but he`s hard to tie down as he works world wide, he was out in India before Xmas. My compressor is small enough to take up to his place in the trailer, and run off the Generator. But It`s a 20/30min Journey each way. Pete
  3. Are you intending to Re-paint yourself of farm out?. I`m having great difficulty finding anyone who will do it. My space is too limited at home to paint, with all the other "crap" (domestic) in the garage. Doing prep work is bad enough, bit cold out there too at pressent, even in multipole layers. Pete

    TR6 running rich

I dont know how others do it, but I have always never checked plugs until after a good hot run, Switch off, No Idle. Then check?. My only experience with Lucas PI, was towing a TR6 up and down the car deck of a RoRo Ferry, In Imminghan, in an attempt to get it to start for the ships electrician. That failed and it went home to Wales? on a Recovery. Pete

I too think the "unleaded" scare was overdone, most of the old Ford crossflow engines where thrashed within an inch of their lives on the 60/70`s club rally circuits, by guys running on the proverbial "shoe string" for the Fun of it. They blew for many reasons, but not as far as I remember due to valve recesion!!.😂. Pete
  6. As Merchant Navy personel, I got asked to attend a 4 day "fire awarenes" and fire fighting course, at Liverpool Airport back in the 70`s. One of the fire officer lecturers, walked us through the whole business of Explosive dust`s. (we regularly carried powdered cargoes) and put on a (small) demonstration for our Benefit. Quite impressive the results of just a small quantity of Flour in the atmospere. His explanation was that the micro size of the powder, and being a carbohydrate, allowed a far more rapid flame propagation and if being additionally blown by air (Oxygen) that made it decidedly lethal. Almost any "sugar" will burn or explode in the right conditions. Rank`s. Flour milling, had employees regularly "hoovering" dust from surfaces in the Hull Factory back in the 50`s./60`s. Pete
  7. Low sales after all the old B-L car`s rotted away?.👍😁😭. ----------- Other makes/Models available!. Pete
  8. OR that stupid thing fiat fit, "Plastic wheel finisher"? (hub cap?) held in place by two of the wheel nuts, but takes forever to decide which two?🙄 Pete
  9. I got one quite a few years back, its permanently in my Motorhome, not quite sure why? as I won`t be changing any wheels anytime soon. I need at least a 3tonne jack to lift the front end, and have the RAC on speed dial. As said, nice tool, but a conversion chart is a necessity. Pete
  10. TBF, that would make a lot of sense, In the USA, they only talk Hub Caps. The old Rileys and Rovers had huge "Hub Caps" (nave plates?) which covered the whole wheel as I recall, and the small caps which I knew back in the 50`s as a grease cap could conceivably have been the "hub cap"? Refered to in the Haynes Herald Manual as "the cap" p139. item 15 and the 1st edition 1200 herald repair manual P72/3, AS the HUB CAP.) Pete
  11. As far as I am aware there is no difference, other than the term Hub Cap was more American, and since WW2 has become the "English" standard term for the Nave plate. (two countries divded by a common language) Tire/tyre, Color/Colour------------------etc; As for hub cap removal, Difficulty appears not to affect certain members of society when one is parked?. Pete
  12. New Career?. "Fire Eating"?.😁 I`m guessing it`s the solvents?. Once evaporated it should be inert?. (hopefully😁) Pete
  13. It is almost certain that the GDPR. has made it impossible for the retention of any such "data". The amount of work involved with obtaining the necessary "consent", would be far more than any Reg; Sec; would wish to cope with. Despite the fact that I am my wife`s Carer. Many organisations will not speak with me unless she physically confirms such. This can be a real issue when, as happens, her throat closes up (No speech) and I need to get information from her medical teams!. I just ring 999, even though 9 times out of 10 she spontaneously recovers, before they arrive!. (wacky races!). Pete

With Petrol additives, allegedly around 3 to 6 pounds per tank full a 2% reduction in MPG from the use of E10 fuel, would bring the overall cost per tank of fuel within a penny or two of the similar cost/mile for E5 anyway?. Based on 35MPG when run on E5 Super, a 9 gallon Tank, Fuel price base from the RAC to-day. Gall Mi/Tk Cost/Tank Additive? Total Pence Mile Tank Capacity:- E5 9 315 £67.58 £0.00 £67.58 21.4549470342857 Tank Capacity:- E10 9 308.7 £60.80 £4.50 £65.30 21.1517059212828 Pete

On a cost basis, I saw a recent article, which claimed the E10 was actually giving as much as 2% less MPG than E5 (super). Even with the price difference of up to 10p/litre in some places, the extra cost of "Super" in terms of Miles/£ is closer than some would have us believe?. Add the cost of "additives" and it could even be a race of equals?. Might stand further investigation?. Pete
  16. TBF, I am not actually that surprised?. Hence my suggestion to have it crack tested. I know from (embarassing) experience that not all "defects" are actually that. Having had (costly) X-Ray examination carried out on Steam Boiler on one occasion. Fortunately my HO Engineer was "on my side".!! Anyway, relief I am sure, best of luck with the studs. Without checking the spec: could longer one`s be shortened?. Pete.
  17. The "Trick", fit it, set them to a (rough) standard, and then let the Dealer sort it on PDI?. Pete
  18. A somewhat cynical, but never the less IMHO, accurate snapshot of modern corporate thinking. Most corporations, have shareholders, share holders "want" more profit this year and next, and so on infinitum. The job of supplying this "want" is the reason for the plethora of "Bean Counters" effectively running virtually ALL entities, public and private. Their God/mantra being "bottom line". Where if we made 3% last, we need 3+% next. how do we do it?, turnover, by "engineering" redundancy into the product, it will get replaced and the profit will be enhanced. Pete
  19. Unsurprising, given Henry`s, original "Stack-em-high, sell-em-cheap", sales methodology. The Original "Tesco" Principle.👍 Pete
  20. Makes sense, wood being a "natural material" will have variations in colour and grain texture, etc;. Anyone who has ever bought genuine wood furniture, and especially kitchen furniture will likely have seen the "disclaimer" often printed/attached to them making just that point. We Had two doors replaced, same supplier, after water damage and you can see the colour difference 5 years apart. My Father in Law, was an "Old Time" French Polisher, and he would spend many hours matching colour and finish when "repairing" damaged furniture for local Furniture Shops. Quite a lucrative sideline after he retired, bought himelf and MIL a few Spanish Holidays😁. Pete
  21. Venturi effect? We used steam, to creat a vaccuum which allowed the (sealed) chamber to boil off sea water at low temperature for Boiler feed water. Quite effective. Pete
  22. Ford. Used the Resistive wire a lot, and it was a frequent fail fault, to the extent that I by-passed them every time I had a different car wether working or not!. Could never understand the "philosophy of thinking" behind it.? Pete
  23. Don`t how many get Practical Classic`s? But Simister was having a go over "heel/toe" driving, which we all learned on the rally circuit, and the fact that early Fly by Wire cars used to throw a fit if you tried it. Pete
  24. Far better in view that many/most of the more modern offerings in a pure styling sense?. I have a (well herself has,) a Modern SUV. good vehicle with no issues, but definitely lacks in the "style dep`t". But that I supose IS modern life, wholesale Dumming Down?. "Creativity" went out with the corporate desire for "bottom line". The vast majority of moderns are merely clones. Pete
  25. I noticed that too, The Golf? in front is 9 years younger. The earlier Photo of Cars "swimming" made me chuckle. Seen too many hit the water and swamp the engine/electrics, going too fast. Mini`s where notorious for it with the Dizzy right in the firing line!. Slow and steady, keep the revs up, and dont forget to "dry" the brakes after exit!!!😁 Pete
