These Oval Hole style wheels were also fitted to the Dolomite 1500 SE Model too, with Stainless steel rim embellishment's? Some of the very last standard range Dolomites manufactured around late 1980 also had these 5J Oval Hole wheels fitted, presumably to use up stock with the Shut down of the Canley Factory for car production😢 Regards Gary

I work in the Electrical Contracting Industry, our Panel shop uses Crimped type Connections exclusively for their Electrical Panel Wiring and they've done so for years. Electrical connections up to 300mm/SQ Cable sizes using Hydraulic Crimped connections is normal industry installation practice for Electrical loads up to 1600 Amps I have used numerous crimped type Lug connectors using good quality Ratchet type Crimps on car wiring systems for years without any issues, Ratchet type Crimps in conjunction with good quality crimp type lugs shouldn't give any problems on a car electrical systems. The cable must be stripped correctly, the right size crimp used and the electrical connection to the accessory correctly tightened to ensure no future problems. Loose connection and high currents can cause over-heating and possible fires on Electrical Systems, even on Car Systems? Gary

I'm sure I've read the 5.5J Oval Dunlop wheels were used on Formula Ford single seater Racer's in the 1970's, anyone know anymore?

I Remember swapping my Mk2 Vitesse Handbrake cable during it's rebuild with the Rear Tub off the car and upside down, it was easy😉 With the car built up and the right way round it is a pain!😖

The most popular Alloy wheel and Tyre sizes seem be 5.5J X 13" with 175/70 Tyres for the small chassis Triumphs. I've used this on a couple of Vitesses's and was happy with the looks, extra grip and the steering wasn't ridiculously heavy. I've seen 14" and 15" size wheel fitted, but with low (40/50/60 Profile Tyres fitted) I personally don't like the look of them and the standard Suspension is not suited to Low profile tyres either? It's the ET Offset that determines if they will catch or not and 6J will be tight even with the correct offset? I had some Dunlop D1's 5.5J X 13" with a ET19 Offset on my last Vitesse and these didn't catch at the rear but fouled slightly the Bulkhead at the Front on Lock. Up-rated studs are a must as the originals are designed for a Herald! Gary

Sold at the NEC for the asking price apparently, is it going into a Museum maybe?

I remember Chatting to Cliff (The Trimmer on Car SOS) at one of the Triumfest Shows at Donington, he owns a GT6 Mk2. He assured me the 3 week restoration period was genuine and that Fuzz and Tim often worked into the early hours of the Morning on some of the cars? the episode with the restoration of the Pagoda SL Merc was a good one and it took far longer than 3 weeks with that car. The Bodyshell in particular was apparently the worst they had ever seen?!!

It reminds me of when Mark Evans (A car is Reborn) found & restored the E-Type on a farm, it was covered in mud but you could see it was all staged and the car was basically sound. They did fully restore it though! 😉 Gary

Colin Buy it now was around £8,500 if I remember correctly. I'm sure I saw this actual car the last time the TSSC held the International at Stafford, it was a really nice example and restored to Original Specification. Not bad mark up is it for a quick valet and polish!🙄

I wouldn't advise reusing the shaft, they are a known weak point anyway and are prone to shearing around the bearing area. TD Fitchetts at Telford supply reconditioned exchange Driveshafts but you may need to get a usable second one first to exchange. Might be worth swapping them both whilst your at it for peace of mind? Gary

From a Google search Unipart - GFE227 or 180 Champion - C114 Halfords - HOF200 Fram - PH2964 Fram filters not liked by some though, google it? Be careful on the length of some of them though, a bit tight for space with the Vitesse Gary

Colin Yes you could be correct with Bond instead of the Amphicar, although there was a guy in the 80's with one who was in in the Club? In the 80's the car were shown on the front cover of the Courier around the Logo? Must have a look when I'm in the Loft again!

The Six cars are: Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire, GT6, Amphicar and Any kit car based on the Herald/Vitesse Chassis (If my memory serves me correctly?!!)
-
The Mike Costigan Book on Herald/Vitesse originality is a very good guide on how the cars came out the factory and the various changes over the years, I sold my copy years ago though😞.

I remember some of those cars being sold at Anglian Classic car Auctions 5 or so years ago, some Ex Triumph Dealer in the Norfolk area I believe had them stashed away? I can remember a low Mileage Herald Estate & Vitesse Saloon being in the Auction. I also also remember about 10 Years ago a Stag with Delivery Mileage being for sale at £20K on E-Bay, I wonder what happened to that one? Gary

Herald 948 chassis mounting bolts /speed bolts?
GFL replied to fungus's topic in Chassis, Suspension & Steering
The ones along the joint of the front and rear bulkheads (No. 4's) are like the ones shown by Pete on later cars, they screw into Spire type nuts in the chassis, not sure about the early 948's though but more than likely the same? They used a self tapping type thread with a Bolt head to suit either a 7/16" or 3/8" Size spanner or socket If I remember correctly. The washers were quite large at least an inch diameter, maybe slightly bigger.- 27 replies
