  1. I loaded the 4 new Continental tyres in the back for replacement this week and didn't like that one of them was wet. Ideally, I'll never need the rear for more than the odd suitcase that fits but it would be good to rubberize the rear in an OE manner. I'll post on the facebook groups to see if any one has a solution.
  2. The 300SEL was hardly the brand's finest moment. Air suspension in any car is a bad, bad idea. Just look at the newer Tesla recall rates with them! Atleast with the W109 (300SEL's model), you knew that once every 7-10 years, a rebuild was needed and then you'd never have to worry about it again. That said, I would purchase its cousin, a W108 with steel spring every day of the year. The cars I own both (w115, W123) both needed sorting when I acquired them. But in the years since their mechanical rebuilds, al with dealer supplied parts, all I have done is garage them and change fluids. Boring perhaps, but a "forever car" nonetheless.
  3. "Real" Merc owner here. Everything about the reputation remains valid till the mid 90's. Everything out of Stuttgart post 1998 is designed for the scrap heap. Everything went downhill from there and Toyota gladly took their place. BMW/ Audi never really had the mantle to begin with. They're fun...just never built the same way. Which is why you'll hardly ever see them on the roads today.
  4. Hmmm... not looking for a generic option. A good item for an aftermarket supplier I'd imagine
  5. Greetings All, Was wondering if a rubber floor matting option ever existing for the "hatch" of the GT6? Ideally with a logo on it? I wouldn't feel comfortable putting suitcases or anything that isn't dry on my carpeting. Cheers!
  6. Yes, drilled slotted rotors really won’t aesthetically add to a car with Dunlop 5.5X13 wheels either.
  7. Sorry, I should been more clear. I haven’t fitted the EBC pads - the previous owner did. I’ve ordered the Mintex pads and plan to resurface the discs if possible.
  8. Took an image of the discs and everyone’s favourite green coloured pads while the tyres were replaced with new Continentals. To me, the discs are in great shape and the pads are close to new. That said, the braking is just as abysmal as on the first day I drove the car. The plot thickens...
  9. Anyone recognize these rear Rotoflex dampners?
  10. Contis are on the car, replacing the tyres that were made in 1996 and 2008 respectively!!! I couldn’t believe it when I saw that not one but two previous owners drove the car with severely expired rubber. Egad! On the plus side, the tyres as excellent with a noticeable difference to rolling resistance, perceived by how much earlier I take my foot off the throttle to coast to a stop.
  11. Found what looks to be the correct steering wheel. Sadly, there's a nutter attached to it! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Triumph-TR5-Steering-Wheel-Assembly-like-never-fitted/353296899946?hash=item524222df6a:g:A~oAAOSwnYBaUm4m
  12. The main challenge I seem to be facing is finding the right sized magnetic drain plugs. Rimmer Bros sells one but I have no way of knowing it is the right size for the car.
  13. Anyone installed a magnetic drain plug on your Triumph? I've done so on every other Classic I own as a precaution but thought I'd check with the community first. If so, a purchase link would be very welcome!
  14. There is definitely some knocking/ shuddering emanating from the rear. I've left sorting it to Dale's wisdom. The MED short stubs have arrived and my oh my they are well made and...pretty
  15. My mistake - it wasn’t the steering UJ but the driveshaft UJ. I’ve ordered both sets of Pad kits.
  16. Looks really nice for the price!
  17. Ordered the kit and the replacement gear lever (3rd link in the post above). Now all that's left is finding the correct steering and gear knob with shift pattern. Thanks again!
  18. I purchased the ebay Mintex pads as advised. Would you be able to point me to the correct pin/ clip kit for those pads? https://shop.tssc.org.uk/product/pad-pin-and-clip-kit-16p-metric OR https://shop.tssc.org.uk/product/pad-and-pin-set-m16-imperial I'll also need to purchase the Mintex Certek paste separately. Finally, I heard back from Dale who asked if I wanted to " replace the rear inner wishbone bushes and the UJ with the spinning cup too?" I remember a specific recommendation about buying a UJ only from Chris Witor. I'm sure there's a reason for this. Anyone care to share a website or contact? Thanks very much for your guidance on this!
  19. Different than this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-TRIUMPH-VITESSE-GT6-1300-1500-GEARBOX-GEAR-LEVER-REMOTE-REPAIR-KIT/401779411326?hash=item5d8beb497e:g:o3YAAOSwOVpXaVrA
  20. Thanks Pete. Hope you won't mind a few more follow up questions: Imperial or metric? Assuming I should get the hardware kit as well? And finally, what % discount does the club offer? https://shop.tssc.org.uk/category/gt6-1?page=0%2C0
  21. Just heard from Dale. Once replacement tyres are installed, I'll take the car back to him to sort. He's agreed to install the MED short stubs and the Mintex pads. Anyone have a link handy on the best place to purchase 1144 pads?
  22. Just ordered it from Hazen. Looks like a simple enough piece of kit that looks original to the car.
  23. In my experience, the leather chains have limited lifespan. Hence the search for a metal one
  24. I'm sure those racing spitfires were putting out close to 100 bhp with the above modifications in those days. No way a road car would ever use that state of tune and so Triumph used a larger engine with similar power ratings and a metal roof. In my very humble view, those Lemans cars are spitfires as much as a GT6 is a spitfire. i.e. more power and a roof
  25. Silly question perhaps, but I wondered which key chain is the most faithful for a Classic Triumph? Amazon and ebay are littered with Chinese rubbish, and best I've found so far was this one. Have I missed a more obvious choice?
