  1. I have to admit I was skeptical about the rave reviews of Koni shock absorbers. I've always installed Bilstein in my vehicles and have noticed a difference. But not quite to the level experienced today when I drove my GT6 back from Moordale motors. Somehow, ride quality and handling both improved dramatically. The car felt supple and more refined (rich for GT6, I know) Sadly, I was only able to to sort the front end this time, so the rear end felt thrashy and rattled by comparison, exaggerated by the sheer difference in quality over the generic shocks (pictured below). This difference is why I am entirely committed to purchasing the rear "kit" for Mk2 Rotoflex cars. I look forward to the day it is installed. Till then, all I can say is that if you don't know which shock absorbers to get , buy Koni. If you have cheap parts like I had (installed by a previous owner), get Koni. The difference is so noticeable, transformative and enjoyable that you won't regret the money spent.
  2. It runs but does misfire when throttle is applied. I'll check the fuses you mention and try again. Will report back.
  3. Very unexpectedly. I'm guessing its a fuse? Any leads on which one I should check? Strangely the car also began misfiring but I'm not sure the two issues are connected. Any thoughts welcome.
  4. Not exactly bolt on then I'm not a very aggressive driver, and don't expect much brake fade or much wear. And because I don't drive more than 2-3K miles a year, rust prevention is a priority. I believe the science is that dimples/ slots aide in cooling while preserving disc integrity. That said, I think it's all marketing mumbo jumbo. I'll share how they perform when they go on car next week.
  5. In my experience, disc coatings do last for a number of years. Indeed, my Mercedes rotors (made by ATE) are rust free and still coated, 3 years after installation. They’re indirect injection diesels, so hardly ever driven above 70mph. I couldn’t find ventilated discs that bolt on the GT6 anywhere. Do you have a source?
  6. Sadly, EBC supply is severely backordered. Not a single retailer has the solid discs in stock. I am keen on coated discs (for rust prevention) so had no choice but to get their slotted/ dimpled version from Rimmers. On the plus side, I'm impressed that it is dimpled but not drilled. Looks like a very high quality product!
  7. Every single one of our guests have been incredibly generous with their time. Wonderful human beings in real life!
  8. Thanks for the kind words! If you liked it, I hope you won't mind a humble request to subscribe and share with any relevant communities out there. Every little bit of it helps. Good comment on the Miata Colin, and we originally had the Fiat 124 spyder (new version) booked in. But the company cancelled the car the month before filming. Yes, its a reskinned Miata aka Fiata but it was slim pickings when it comes to equivalents leaving us with no other modern option.
  9. Greetings all, I was really hoping to get your thoughts on a Classic Car show our motley little crew produced. It's called New vs. Old and we managed to film 3 episodes before lockdown. Before anyone asks, yes a GT6 will be featured in an upcoming episode. I was hoping to gather feedback from this friendly group so if you could share: A sentence describing what you liked (if any) and a sentence about what you disliked (if any). Please know we are not sponsored and lack a "Top Gear" production budget but will do our best to incorporate feedback where possible. Thanks in advance!
  10. Dale's quote is for the discs and shock absorber replacement (5-6 hours). Nothing else.
  11. I was just informed that the springs need to be compressed and removed to replace the shock absorbers and the hubs need to come off to replace the discs (hence the 6 hour estimate). Was wondering if I should replace anything else while this job is done?
  12. It's actually £50 a pair posted after discount. Given that they're coated/ treated, I think that's an okay price.
  13. Thanks all. Sounds like I'll have to look to have it rebuilt by a Smiths specialist rebuilder. In other news, I've purchased Koni front shocks and EBC front discs. 15% off thanks to an ebay promotion. I've been quoted 5-6 hours to replace them. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-Replacement-Front-Solid-Brake-Discs-for-Triumph-GT6-2-0-66-71/312053658308?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Koni-Classic-Red-Front-Shock-Absorber-Triumph-GT6-Mk2-69-70/122226896219?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  14. It did after everything was sorted. Passed with no advisories and only a squeaky caliper wobble. Hence the need to replace the Rotors. These are the Koni shocks I've shortlisted for when the next ebay discount voucher arrives. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Koni-Classic-Red-Front-Shock-Absorber-Triumph-GT6-Mk2-69-70/122226896219?hash=item1c754a6d5b:g:7pEAAOSwo4pYKuEo
  15. It wasn’t Dale’s fault at all. The car had one seized caliper and one seized cylinder. It was a miracle it stopped at all. When the caliper was unseized, the rotor was mistakenly preserved. That will be rectified next along with the front shock absorbers. Any thoughts on the Koni?
  16. Dale didn't replace the rotors - we discovered later that it was warped. Hence the need for replacements.
  17. Yes, brake discs aka rotors. Sorry for the confusion - it's a remnant term from my 20s spent in America. With other cars, I've had great success purchased from known brands like Brembo etc. and have always picked coated discs over any of the drilled/ slotted stuff, especially when the disc is invisible. These EBC discs look well made but are limited to models Girling/TRW Front Calipers. I suppose I'll need to determine which Calipers my 69 GT6 has? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-Replacement-Front-Solid-Brake-Discs-for-Triumph-GT6-2-0-66-71/312053658308?epid=248980256&hash=item48a7d8f2c4:g:jDIAAOSwz7Naawjd
  18. Greetings! After driving a few hundred miles following its return from Moordale motors, my GT6 clear has a warped rotor. Time to get the best possible replacement - recommendations that surpass the standard club shop options anyone? Also, while the rotor is off the car, I plan on replacing the front shock absorbers. I'm told Koni yields the most comfortable ride? Thanks in advance!
  19. Greetings! I'm looking for the metal trim surround that's pictured below incase you have one lying around. I'd be grateful if you could PM me with your asking price. Many thanks!
  20. Had the GT6 wheel balancing checked. It was very slightly off, so that was fixed. The technician didn't have the shims needed, so was only able to adjust toe in on his alignment machine. Looks like there's no school like the ol' school for the GT6's Camber and Castor.
  21. Thanks Clive. We'll definitely adjust accordingly but I was hoping someone had a factory unladen recommendation lying round.
  22. The SPAX option has an Open length of 357.7mm and Closed length 243.7mm.
  23. Dunlop 13X 5.5. No bends and the bearings are good. My tyre guy is also very good, so yes they checked to make sure it was zero’d. Car has not been tracked, though I’ve never heard of that causing wheel shudder before. Will get it checked. I have the grab below as the correct setting.
