    head gaskets

Hi, with Stoneleigh coming up next year I am making a list of stuff to look out for, one is a head gasket set, my car is a mk3 gt6, engine no. KE/20055-HE, although the head is stamped up as pic 1. 218225 gearbox no has been overstamped GR 901347 as pic 2. just shown that for additional info. would anyone know if it would need the recessed head gasket or non recessed, or how can I tell? any advice appreciated. p.s I blew up the gearbox pic and original no looks like WM 36826
  3. What on earth are you lot on about? ๐Ÿ˜‚
  4. I think the vernier is for fine adjustment only. When setting the timing with a strobe light you should loosen the clamp and turn the distributor body. Then clamp and check again. The vernier only use for fine adjustments after would probably not need to be adjusted more than a few clicks.
  5. Welcome brooky looking forward to your tale. We like plenty pics on here. Good luck

  8. thanks for that pete, ill order some up as the origonals are a bit worn
  9. hi I got the brass nuts of my exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe, they are 3/8 unc. are the studs 3/8 unc at both ends? I want to buy new ones but without taking the old ones out am unsure.
  10. Well done Chris. Now the fun starts. Keep us up to date with loads of pics.
  11. about 25 years ago, I bought a 64 rover 2000 from a guy in truro, I took the train from Newcastle, and a big bag of tools honestly I could hardly lift it. bought the car and drove back to my friends in Minehead, stayed the night, had to buy a new battery as the original was dead. it was mid winter and freezing, I drove it all the way back north and the head gasket blew just 5 miles from home so it got me there ok. great memory now and yes I would do it again. good luck today chris and I really hope it goes well.
  12. I am sure all will be fine the car looks a beaut. And I'll bet well looked after by previous owner. Good luck tomorrow and let's know how you get on.
  13. great idea and find. ive ordered some for my gt6 carb set up just incase. for info the larger fuel pipe dia. is 5/16" and smaller 9/32". on looking you would need to shorten the pipes on the carb but I don't know the length of the u/j`s. however I thought for a couple of quid good to have in my spares box.
  14. Thursday tomorrow chris are you all excited ? we are and we`re not going!!!

  17. start buttons dead handy if working on an engine and want to start it from the engine bay.
  18. Check leads to starter clean and tight and check engine earth. Could that terminal be for dynamo or alternator?
  19. Just thought wonder if you could buy the column overdrive switch and use that for the horn. They seem easy to find on the bay
  20. Hi doug I guess you could fit a tr7 or late spit 1500 steering column and switches. That what I'll be doing with mine. Or simples way put a horn button on the dash.
  21. Love it. What's say gear are you using?
  22. There's loads of stuff on you tube to aid you. The better the machine of course the easier it is and I find gas mig is far easier than gasless.
  23. sorry dave, I think youll need to weld it, the glue wont have the strength and its fairly shallow too. if your not sure ask your instructor to fire a bit of mig in for you. its only a two minute job.
