Hi Paul,

I got a couple from Euro Car Parts recently. The price keeps changing in their successive and constant 'sales' but I think delivery was free.

I've just checked and they are £8.09 each with free delivery in the current sale.

Any chance of a link as can’t get further than adding Vehicle Reg and then system says incorrect registration

Thanks Tony for the link . Purchase made for the 714/2 . Is the 714/4 as in the second link suitable ?

Paul

According to the bumpf, the 714/4 has an M20 thread. It may screw onto a 3/4unf thread, but I would not trust it.

The ECP website is a nightmare, it insists on a reg number that's then stops it searching.

know what's else it might fit and enter that.

1.8 petrol Golf from 1990 works for oil filters sometimes.

Hello Paul,

I have been using the 714/2 filter for a few months now and pleased to report all is good.

Fitting is easier due to it being more compact and I also have an oil pressure line T piece which further restricts access; hence the 714/2 has been a useful switch over.

I purchased mine in November last year via eBay - car parts saver - and it cost me £5.99 with free p&p. Just checked their site and now selling at £13.95 !!

This I presume is purely as a result of the virus situation where suppliers are making the most from reduced outlets or the actual manufacturer is stinging the wholesaler who in turn has to sting Joe Public.

I've no doubt prices will settle again, but wish I had purchased a couple of filters at the time !!

Regards.

Richard.

Colin, that is just the one filter. There are LOADS of 3/4unf filters that fit. Any ford filter will, but there are variations in height (cosworth 2wd one is really short, mondeo pretty long.) and anti-drain valves. Ideally if a filter is pointing up, a double anti-drain valve is wise. You have a list of those!

On my zetec spit, it has a remote filter pointing down. I have a stack of filters here to use, VW, ford merc mostly. All correct thread, slight variety of lengths. Not checked the valve situation, drain back is not an issue and the oil pump is "very efficient" so dry starts just don't happen.

Another filter option is the Mann W77, very short, correct 3/4 thread and one anti-drain valve. Just over a fiver.... (maybe less if there is additional discount!) If it is good enough for a modern car with 10K service intervals, it will be fine on a triumph.

I know, I wasn't going to list them all, nor all the cross-references... not enough coffee in the world :)

Those are just the direct 714/2 variants. What I'm wondering is who makes them, how many are the same with just different paint and labels, and what the best ones are, avoiding the cheapie corner-cutters.

mann generally good. I would be happy with Bosch (no particular reason except always found Bosch stuff good) and I believe Wix filters are decent... of course anything from an OEM will be good, but just be wary of "equivalent to OEM" or worse, "exceeds OEM....."

BTW adapters in the post. No, really, they are.

You work for eBay?

"The seller has already received positive feedback for the speedy delivery"... on an item they had to cancel three months after purchase due to not being in stock.

...but you've already got 5 stars so no worries here... and no hurry either.

I think it's the two anti drain  valves most Triumph owners like Clive? It's good to know of another with the 3/4 thread though. I personally use the 724/1 on my 2500S but they are to long for a lot of Triumphs.

Hi. I have bought the wix adapter and filter. Is the adapter easy to fit ?

I assume i do the normal oil change routine and remove the filter but what is the next step? I just want to get all the right tools to hand .

My adapter look as if it has two notches for a screw driver blade. Thanks

It's just a case of removing your existing filter and the 5/8 male-male adapter currently fitted unless you've got a real original style filter as per the photo of one for a Spitfire which incorporated a male 5/8 thread instead of the female thread and didn't require the adapter.

Any existing adapter should be just finger tight.

I'm sure someone will tell you to screw the adaptor into the block but these wix24037 adaptors were originally supplied with the oil filter eg 51312 for Spitfire in the link below. The intension was to screw the adaptor into the filter with a large flat bladed screw driver to replicate the original filter fitment.

I'm with @yorkshire_ spam I fit 713/9 to Spitfire.
