  1. Lets see how mine comes apart, been busy (garden club sale ) saved £44 by spending money pete
  2. Aha dark room and green tea is calling. yuk pete
  3. I sell small bags of slivers just to prove a point they are not a new idea, over 40 yr ago we used nylon air brake pipes well before any others and had loads of trouble with slivers cut off by the metal firtree fitting flying down pipes into valve seats causing air leaks the little sods are a real pain they breed like rabbits pete
  4. the triumph wsm is as above , sorry Doug ,, its refund time or get a proper book !!! Ha Dtype is + 20% or x 0.8 a 3.89:1 +od is 21.8 miles per 1000 a 3.27:1 + od is 25.9 per 1000 Pete
  5. its all down to things like gradability, and torque if you over gear it wont pull, cant hill start and increase clutch slip times to get started . a 3.27 + OD gives a silly ratio , might suit the torque of a 2500 ,....just
  6. there are two clusters, and gear sets , 2nd and 3rd ratios change between 4 cyl and 6 cly but you can swap them in sets , just fitted a spitty box with vitesse cluster and gear sets not much sinlge rail fits 3 rail lots of bits very close but needs careful part number checking, or you get more reverse teeth or a right wobbly 1/2 hub , and 3 syn vs 4 sync is another not much mix and match
  7. if it runs like a old dog its nowt to do with me you can 'check' the timing when the tappets are on its in the manual , needs a 40thou gap and strong tea you follow the setting clues backwards , get the back 2 rockers rocking fully down and set front two at 0.040" then turn to crank TDC gaps should remain equal doesnt matter what the gap is so long as they are the same Pete
  8. Dick,, How Do we get you started then pete
  9. NOS hoses probably wont last with modern fuels , better than the nasty repro stuff Even R9 is getting poor life reports , thats assuming you actually get what you pay for and not india rubber in a nice bag. pete
  10. Disturbing the fuel lines is most likely you have rubber sliver syndrome there will be particles of rubber sliced off when inserting metal pipes these flat about and block the back of the float needle valves can make spasmodic power outages also check ht terminal in the coil head and the brush in the dizzy cap is in contact with the rotor what dia is the hole in the replacement fitting ?
  11. Counter shaft tooth fatigue , not uncommon,, seen the price of replacements Oooh! buy a slave gox for spares is best route On J types I would remove the solenoid and its inner spool valve piston clean and fit new 0 rings give the filter a clean and it is normally a bullet proof unit. if the 3rd gearwheel teeth are un marked its a chance to re use, with the load of the tooth failure on the teeth I would replace It there may be a tooth fracture developing and you cant see it ..
  12. Yes and rich is going to wash the bores , so all front 3would be similar oil on just one could just be down to poor plug performance (not firing well) or rings pete
  13. I would have done a equal lift and protractor on the cam to check the marks are correct for exact lobe tdc out all day sunday on an area outing so more thought later on pete
  14. Wont take it apart tonight as out in car all tomorrow if it decides to disintegrate I need to fathom fitting a more modern upgrade so maybe monday now. pete
  15. sent Louis some pics of my 2000 lense with as many vernier measures as possible eg.
  16. its very very similar to my 2000 we could use that as a model , 718574 is also NA do you need just the clear lense ??? I will give the dimensions of my lense see where that leads us ,,,camera....action ....well first a coffee Pete
  17. Dave they are more a splash shield than a oil seal anything similar would work, but its not overly important so maybe stick with whats left. pete
  18. I think if the caps seal is vented and has small hole in the vent tube is capped . otherwise its a tube down through a hole in the boot floor can be bundy or nylon tube its an idea to put a coil in the pipe route
  19. The early boxes had alloy clutch hsg and bolt on front cover not the 3ton cast one of later years with press in front cover
  20. I dont remember why we did it , I would normally suggest complete box off just cant dream up what prompted the removal, unless chasing a vibration I decided to check the timing marks aligned ok on the planets ( need to be correct on a d type) Pete
  21. Its was popular bullet proof 5spd ford sierra gearbox , used to upgrade the 3 rails. but often needs serious shortening of the remote if you want the stick in front of the handbrake a number of companies do or did a conversion kit Pete
  22. yes Nick it sounds about the right story, many are retro fitted and you have to cut the prop tunnel across the whole model range the commission plate number will generally have an O at the end if factory fitted Pete
  23. the slave diam changed with clutch diameter , rimmers list the changes certainly early cars had a different slave set up with return spring and free play at the push rod , together with on anchor cable to reduce engine movement later the slave was static and just found its own position, with no need for adjustment all from a foggy memory ,, of 50 years ago with a very rusty 59 948 . Pete
  24. there's something about the name ...theres always a way 718574 shows as gt6 and 2000 interior but no pictures ... these are round lamps whats the 625616 like if its 2000 then theres one on my car to copy
