Hi pete. Gaskets supplied by turners Spare gaskets are the same and leak as soon as gasket level is reached. Could i use welseal on the gaskets or instead of Paul
-
Hi Wayne - you are correct - removed rear carb and needle valve - blew out another black sliver - see pic - Ill repeat the process on the front carb just in case and replace both needle valves as i have spares . Thanks for input Paul

Clear fuel hose is not ethanol proof - but better than a sliver - I can keep an eye on the clear pipe and on the look out for suitable clear pipe - Off to dismantle carbs again !! Paul

Ive reconditioned AC Fuel Pump , new diaphram, valves , New Accuspark Dizzy , Coil, Smiths emission control valve cleaned out - The diaphram has started to crack but not all the way through so just ordered replacement .The temperature compensators fitted to CDSE are blocked off ( Thanks Pete ) The Carbs had worked fine before so happy that CDSE's are suitable though not ideal - needles are B5CF Had initial issues starting , stripped the carbs and found slivers of the dreaded black stuff ( R9) in both the needle valve entries Reassembled carbs, needle valves checked , Clear tubing now replaces small 2" sections of R9 (no more slivers as petrol filter in place by the carbs) Carb floats checked at 18mm , Pistons raise and drop as they should. Added a clear tubing balancer - I had previously just blocked these ports with tubing with bolt inset ( see pic ) Engine started after fuel got through though not healthy. With Choke engine revs went initially high then started to waver then high again as if there was a block somewhere . Engine heated up and pushed in choke and engine revs wavering . Then noticed rear carb leaking like a sieve - this normally means blocked needle valve - I know I have to strip and check though is there something im missing ?????? The pic clearly shows fuel leaking through gasket Paul

Looking at replacing Vacuum Pipe Elbow Connectors , both have perished despite one being a year old , visible cracks and unable to hold any vacuum when tested . Any sources welcome . Also newbie question - with the 2 new connectors and connected pipe connected and linked to a Vacuum tester - does the section have to hold the Vacuum for the advance to function correctly ? Paul

What lacquer are you using please Paul

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner direct into carbs , if she starts then it's a carb clean down with blocked needle valves a possibility Paul -
Sound deadening material under fuel tank
Paul H replied to petegardner_901's topic in Bodywork & Fittings
Hi used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151155678947?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT as much cheaper than Dynamat - Using a heat gun makes fitting contours very easy To go on top of the pads Ive purchased http://www.ebay.co.u...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT which is a 5 metre roll of sound proofing deadening 6mm insulation closed cell foam which will be going throughout the interior .Both products have a peel off outer so easy to apply -

Hi Richard , thanks for advice on cable ties , now replaced with stainless band - thanks again Paul
-
UPDATE Fitted the throttle spindle tension spring today - I couldnt find a suitable hold for the spring so used a cable tie wrapped around the starter motor + 6 inches of formed coat hanger + the spring . Thanks for input and another job ticked off Best regards Paul

Hi , Ive got the opportunity to purchase genuine NOS door skins for my Vitesse Mk 2 Saloon - The current doors have a lot of filler and would like to replace at some time - Which is the best way to go , new skins or quality second hand doors which will need some work . Any advice welcome Paul

Here a pic of my setup , not sure if its standard . The cable retaining bracket is not standard and bolts to the manifold - I have added the green section as the carbs couldnt be opened to full throttle . The green section will be sprayed silver once everything is sorted - Cant see a way to secure the spring to anything solid Regards Paul

UPDATE Stripped out pedal assembly and the pivot pin is knackered , I wonder how many miles to achieve these grooves (see pic) The base plate had oversize holes to match . All in all the side play was about 3ins from side to side - the cable ties were there to centralise the pedal . I have now fitted a new pivot pin which has been fashioned out of a larger diameter bolt , The pedal assembly needed drilling out marginally to accommodate the new pin - With the spring inplace there is no sideplay to speak of so ready to put back . Ive found a suitable spring for the carb end but cant work out where to attach the wire extension to hold the carb retaining spring so any input here would be appreciated . Pics attached of the new pedal assembly including a pic of the cable retainer which is simply a cut off section of petrol pipe - looks crude though it wont come out . Paul

Maybe its time to embrace the online technology that is available - I went on line and found FlipSnack , set up a FREE account and uploaded some old Couriers . This took 5mins - For the result Click Here The free version isnt suitable of course though the paid version might work as you can add Indexes and links to pages . Because the print quality of the original is poor its difficult to read unless you use the zoom facility at the top Just an idea Paul

Richard - just did further check and throttle return spring is there BUT the spring tension assembly - 19 & 20 is missing - see pic . A photo of this linkage would be appreciated Best regards Paul

Hi Richard , I used the search facility on Canleys and found the correct layout for Vitesse Mk2 so photos now not needed - thanks for offer - The attached pic shows layout , im missing the clip holding the cable at the top - My reading is that Canleys sell the whole unit for £13.50 + P&P Best regards Paul

Hi Richard - thanks for offer and would like pics of your setup - the only canleys pic i could find was for a 948 . the base looks similar to mine though i dont have the PEDAL RETURN SPRING - HERALD & VITESSE, though can purchase this . My cable linkage is different in that the cable is linked at the top of the pedal only and again held in by cable strap - Is the 948 the same setup as my Mk2 Vitesse ?? Regards Paul

My accelerator set up is very Heath Robinson as you can see from the pic , There is a lot of side play in the pedal - Is there something missing ? Thanks in advance Paul
