  1. I have watched all of the available episodes and am waiting impatiently for the next one! The finish is just superb so far! I've also watched Escargo - with a new one due out tomorrow.
  2. One handed from either side with gas struts fitted to my spit (with Gt6 bonnet) i like them but others say they stress the mounts.
  3. I bought a cheap ebay dizzy - and it was ok - but sure sure how the advance curse worked - I then got one rebuit by the dizzy doctor - and whilst not cheap (By any stretch!) it does come with the calibrated advance curve. But if you just want one to then lock off the advance weights, then I would say go for ebay as that is the bit that is suspect on them!
  4. Not sure this it’s the right place but hey ho! And this is something many of you many already know about- but I didn’t so assume others won’t either i was watching car sos the other day and they were doing up a classic - forget the model but that is unimportant. The irritating Tim has to clean the rear lenses and rather than use one of the many kits or cleaners, he just used toothpaste. My daughters car head lights have plastic lenses a do many modern cars and as we had some toothpaste samples from the dentist which we didn’t like, I gave it a go. And it doors indeed work very well!
  5. What is the boot time of a PLC? I seem to remember it was quite quick - but not instant for sure. I guess the only way to get near instant is to have it powered permanently - or to use a PIC chip with E2prom program storage?
  6. These "Should" be transparent? Its not a good starting image as there is a lot of mess around the individual icons - should be better with a better starting image - but this was quick!
  7. Hum, that ICON set might be royality free - but its not free - its £7!
  8. Iain - do you want the labels cut out onto a transparent background (png?) format? If so I can do that easily enough.
  9. I only mentioned PI and Ardunio as two generally available and affordable systems. I have one site we are starting to upgrade from a previous BMS - which has been installed in some parts of the factory since 2000/2001 and is only now starting to fail - and spares are no longer available. I know of other sites with the same hardware essentially dating back 10years earlier. Peripheral devices fail more often tbh. actually i did an upgrade on one site and had to change some old actuators for dampers - they dated back from the late 60’s early 70’s and still worked but were the wrong type. The replacements lasted less than 2years. Progress.
  10. Had some spares and a stock take due? 🤣
  11. Have you ever played with a Raspberry PI? If you have with the IO modules, then that is what a PLC or BMS is - just a series of inputs and outputs tied together with logic. Or Arduino https://www.arduino.cc/ which is similar to the PI is some ways but more IO logic based rather than a Linux box (Usually!) with a bolt on IO option.
  12. Looks a nice display - my one controller (Tridium - which runs a Java VM) polls the internal 16 IO points in 31ms - which is pretty good to be fair. Another controller which is android based is being scanned over BACnet in 47ms for 24 points - so actually I'm quite impressed - though that is not the internal controller speed which is 20ms. I have to say though that the graphics on modern BMS's can be very impressive - photo-quality is possible and fully interactive as they use HTML5 - some HMI's being effectively tablets, but a laptop or desktop is the usual interface and hence can have HUGE displays if you want! And of course, they support BLE and in some cases ZIGbee, Enocean and other wireless protocols. But is horses for courses. Both have their markets and both can do the other with lesser or greater degrees of success.
  13. Test for power at the bullet connections - keep going back till you find some and then work out where the break is...........
  14. Depends how soft it is, but my Spit was a bit soft when first bleed and was a combination of handbrake adjustment and pads/shooes needing to be bedded in. So I suppose not soft as such but had some bounce in the peddle if that makes any sense at all!
  15. 110kHz is mega fast compared to a BMS. Direct IO is at best 25Hz for pulse counting. Over bacnet or modbus comms even on Ethernet is not fast but does depend on the number of devices and points attached. But to put that into context to control the temperature of a room doesn’t need that much speed. 30seconds is more than quick enough. Most speed is perceived- if the hmi reacts quickly nothing else matters frankly.
  16. I'm not a PLC programmer - though have done one small project (S7) with it to control a couple of compressors for auto changeover on fault or on demand as well as to enable both on pressure dip - It was such a different concept to my usual BMS (Building Management System) software - or was at the time, BMS is becoming more like PLC these days - that I did find it hard to do - but got it sorted and it has been working for about 7years I guess without any issues or modifications. But it is the right concept in a car as BMS is probably too slow - even though it is a lot faster than it was 5years ago - so It will be interesting to see this project progress!
  17. Actually this site gives you some interesting information. https://www.carbaba.co.uk/ just put the reg in and any old mileage.
  18. I think the spanner required is 1 13/16" or 36mm - a socket can be too deep and catch the radiator - I bought a set of large spanners as it was cheaper to get the one I wanted in the set compared to a singleton. But Pete's method works very well - but you must ensure you take it out of gear before you start the car! And/or take the socket/spanner off the pulley too.......
  19. Being positive here (Like what I did there) it could be the reversal caused the tick tock solenoid to go backwards and free itself and making it right allowed it to start!
  20. I happened to have a video on my phone of the timing marks on my spitfire. And my timing gun etc. its A bit rough and ready and the orientation of the phone changes. - I’m a photographer not a videographer!
  21. This might help. standard needles should be fine if the engine is standard . balance the carbs, twelve flats down on the needles and a turn and a half (I think it is) on the idle screws should get it running close you could have other issues though - inlet manifold leak if it’s idling too high for example
  22. Should this be moved to the Blonde moments thread 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  23. My Spitfire 1500 has standard brakes - I replaced all the disks/drums and pads and shoes and they were a bit pants initially - but after a few miles to bed them in they are fine and stop the car with out a huge amount of effort - I swap between the 4 cars in our house quite regularly and all have different peddle feel - but never do I get into one after the Spit and end up throwing myself through the window having applied Spit pressure in the modern ones 🤣 I have got some Mintex pads to go on the front - but as they work ok I've not yet bothered to change them. I might do soon if I end up being locked down at home The biggest issue I have is the handbrake - it works and holds the car, but has taken a lot of adjustment to get it better!
