  1. Yes & Yes The earthing of the Horn on the Small Chassis Triumphs is problematic to say the least? The Horn Push retainer will provide an earth connection between the central Triumph logo horn push and the splined steering shaft via the Steering wheel retaining Nut. Other common problem area's are the brass slip ring wire connection and the earth link on the Steering UJ in the Engine bay. Regards Gary
  2. I found the programme fascinating, ended up watching it twice😁 Lots of archive footage I've never seen before too. A good mixture of footage on a lot of the Coventry Manufacturers, Chris Allen's excellent 12/50 Herald featured and some good Rally footage of the Hillman Imp too. All in all a great programme Gary
  3. Looking forward to this programme, hopefully some footage of the Standard Triumph and Rootes factories as well as Jaguar?
  4. This is the area the Guides normally fail at from a previous post on the subject?
  5. I suspect the two bolts with large penny washers are a modification to try and strengthen the Mk2 Vitesse Hand brake guides? (Unless they are some sort of Strengthener for your rear seat belt mounts?) The handbrake guides on the Mk2 Vitesse models are renowned for fracturing and pulling away from the rear tub due to Metal fatigue, I had to repair/reinforce them on my old Vitesse during its rebuild The clip actually holds the brake pipe that links the left to right rear brakes. Gary PS - You may have a replacement rear tub fitted from an Earlier Vitesse/Herald which have the Hand-brake guides mounted on the Chassis, so a Previous Owner may have bolted on the MK2 guides to the earlier rear tub?
  6. All Vitesse and Herald models up to around 1970 should have 7 PSI Caps, then I have read they standardised on 13 PSI on a number of cars, Heralds/Vitesse/Spitfire/GT6 I believe? Are you making sure the Overflow bottle is half full of coolant? Regards Gary
  7. Ian Neither, this one's a late Mk1 and ROARS! 😺🙀🙀 Regards
  8. That looks a great Project, well done. Here's mine in good company at the TR International in 2018, I must try and get out in it more. Gary
  9. Well done! Not at all surprised it's sold to the first person to View Birmingham isn't too far from me, so hope to see it soon when the Classic car shows get going once again? Gary
  10. Shadow Blue code is 27 if I remember correctly, 16 was Midnight Blue? http://triumphspitfire.com/Paint.html Whatever, the White and Blue go really well. I've read before that if you where willing to pay extra you could have any combination you wanted? White with Red Interior looks nice too. Good Luck with the sale. Regards Gary
  11. https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/saturday-1st-sunday-2nd-may/1969-triumph-vitesse-20-convertible/ Anyone on here bought this beauty?
  12. The short unthreaded section is normal for the rotoflex shafts. Although the hubs are not as tight to remove off the outer driveshaft as the Swing axle shafts, I still had to use a proper hub puller when I rebuilt the rear suspension on my Mk2 Vitesse The threaded section tends to get stripped or damaged if you use the nut to pull the hub onto the shaft, a mate who helped me rebuild mine used a suitable brass shaft to drift the hub on before we tighten up the nut? It was a faff setting up the end-float of the bearings if I remember correctly too, you need the slightest 1 to 1.5 Thou max play or you will ruin the bearings, anymore and chances are the M.O.T. Tester will fail the car too. Gary
  13. What a gorgeous Vitesse Saloon😃 The Shadow Blue Interior with White Exterior looks amazing (I didn't realise this colour Combination was available?) Good luck with the Sale, I'm sure it will get snapped up Regards Gary
  14. I bet the V8 Dolomite sounds nice and goes well?😃
  15. There is a shaped Threaded Captive Plate, if striped you can tap up the next size or go metric. The original threads are 5/16" UNF (1/2" AF spanner) you can re-tap 3/8" UNF (9/16" AF Spanner) but you may have to drill out the hinge holes slightly M10 might be the Best Metric size but not 100% sure on this? Regards
  16. https://www.regtransfers.co.uk/search/platedetails/vjl1 How much?!!!😬
  17. I'm presuming the number plate was included in the sale too? Must be worth £5k plus on its own to the right person.
  18. Is this a new World record Price for a Vitesse at Auction? Sold for £23,500 plus Premium https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2021-04-17/
  19. I Had a quote for my Clutch Master off Dave recently £65 for genuine N.O.S. Girling Probably half the price on Flea-bay for a Chinese one but how long will it last?
  20. Try a guy called Dave Kingerley, link below. https://longbridgemotorspares.co.uk/
  21. Another recommendation for Newtons Carpets, Excellent fit and good Quality too.
  22. To clarify my understanding: I used Koni 80-1717 dampers on the rear of my old Vitesse when using the top extension brackets, my car was still fitted with Rotoflex couplings, some modifications are required though to the Bushes? The Open and closed lengths on the 80-1717 Dampers are different as shown in the photo's by Trigolf above, presumably the new Gaz ones are a similar open/closed lengths to the 80-1717 Koni's (218mm closed & 296mm open). Clive states that the Koni Dampers specified for the standard Swing axle suspension when using the the original top mounts will work with the CV drive shafts with no bottoming out. Regards Gary
  23. Spotted this on E-Bay, what a lovely car? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Dolomite-Sprint-Auto-Excellent-Condition/224393847054?hash=item343eea610e:g:l6gAAOSwaltgVOwT
  24. The above image is pinched from a similar recent post and shows the suspension action using the original Chassis top mounts and also the extension brackets for the lower wishbone suspension. Any mathematicians out there who can work out damper travel between the two?
