  1. A fan will still suck if fitted the wrong way round, air flow will decrease as the blades normally have an airfoil section. Regards Paul
  2. When l had a FWD 1500 I dropped the subframe to change the engine, found that with axle stands at rear jacking points little effort was needed to lift front of car. Regards Paul
  3. Been using silicone in my Vitesse for over twenty years, last ten with a servo when I also fitted goodridge hoses. Has been remarked at MOT time how good the brakes are. Regards Paul
  4. Doors fit but need to change glass and fit convertible antiburst catches. Bulkhead should fit, check wiper spacing later ones are different, rail above windscreen needs tapping plates for hood catches. Also sunviser mounts will need mods and convertible capping strip needs to be fitted on top edge. Not sure on bonnet, but back line of bonnet should match bulkhead. Regards Paul
  5. Bought old tools at car boot sales auto jumbles etc cheap and normally good quality. Also good if you need to take an angle grinder and welder to them for some odd fitting. Regards Pau!
  6. Looks interesting but borrowed this from a friend into mini's. But under the heading always something think I will need a slide hammer to remove other drive shaft. Regards Paul
  7. Found this but needs a press. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1XMksoQLxM Regards Paul
  8. Diff. on my Vitesse leaking from inner axle shafts so need to replace the seals. Removed one from a spare diff. to get idea off job but as many posts say a bugger to remove the bearing, very little space behind it. If any one has done this what sort of puller was used as I believe just pulling on the outer race will only damage the bearing, picture in WSM not helpful. Many thanks Paul
  9. Nipple at top of cylinder because air rises in fluid. On my Vitesse removed gearbox cover when bleeding clutch. Regards Paul
  10. In my opinion overdrive is always worth having. Regards Paul
  11. Seems odd you can use second hand ones but not new. Regards Paul
  12. Seem to remember a suggestion of putting the caps in a freezer for a while so that the grease has a firmer grip on the needle rollers. Regards Paul
  13. They are banded, not sure I would trust them. Regards Paul
  14. Outer seal one length. P chrome finisher 613343 think no longer available and rare second hand. Glass is just a push fit, but be very careful pulling it out, lubricate rubbers well putting it back. Think I used washing up liquid though this contains salt to thicken it I believe. Bit late again. Regards Paul
  15. Used a 1088 belt on my Vitesse when converted to alternator, think this is 100mm shorter than standard. Regards Paul
  16. Do not forget to remove the dipstick. Regards Paul
  17. Looking through an old Dolomite 1850 parts catalogue I am surprised how many gearbox components are common to the three and single rail gearbox particularly the early ones. How this relates to other models gearbox I do not know. Regards Paul
  18. Have a three rail gearbox with j type overdrive with a fine input shaft in my MK1 Vitesse. The early 1850 Dolomites had a three rail gearbox, when they changed to single rail the only difference with the clutch was the friction disc. Regards Paul
  19. Vitesse steel wheels 38-40 ft/lb alloys on modern about 90 ft/lb as I understand the steel are designed with give at mounting points. Regards Paul
  20. Parts bought from a Land Rover parts supplier as Freelander studs. Regards Paul
  21. Well back in the garage to put things back as they were, only mid to high twenties. Time not a problem as retired. Regards Paul
  22. Bought studs from the supplier mentioned in a recent post and found that with steel wheels the threaded portion is to short. Do not feel like extending the thread as cut with a die will be weaker than the original rolled thread. Regards Paul
  23. Have a J type overdrive in my Vitesse had clutch slip when trying to move of then it would suddenly engage. It was a fault with the overdrive. Regards Paul
  24. You drive a classic car, nothing wrong with windows xp a classic operating system with the bugs ironed out. Are the insurers on the club approved list?. About five months to get the bonnet repaired on my Vitesse, no fault claim, I think I could have made a better job apart from the paint finish. They fitted one peaked and one flat sidelight as only one was broken and suggested I pay half the cost of the headlights as they could only buy a pair. We had words. Regards Paul
  25. There should be two wooden wedges as well. Regards Paul
