  1. Pick-up has Mk1 Vitesse chassis, 948 bonnet, 948 bulkhead, 1 x 13/60 door, 1 x Vitesse door, remains of 13/60 estate rear tub, 1500 spit engine, Mk4 Spit o/d gearbox. Very proud of my Bitsa!
  2. We had a Citroen Ami. Handbrake operated little round pads on the front discs. Discs cooled down after run and shrank a bit.. Cue chasing car across pub car park. No damage done. Left in gear after that.
  3. On my pick-up conversion, I have cheated... The body sides are bracketed to the roll over bar, no more tub spread for me! The rear tub was pulled into the correct dimension, then a bar welded across before it went for blasting.
  4. I hope my mum was comfortable in the convertible during that tour! Not the most roomy in the back with three up!
  5. More mundane, my efforts to repaint my 1200 convertible...1980 ish. Stripping by hand and later on the road in various shades of primer. Stopped by police, who enquired as to the colour....Technically Black I said, pointing to the front valence which was the only part I ever got round to finishing! Sold as seen later.
  6. Seen also when on tour in either the South of France or Italy. Picnic in the vineyards while the Vitesse cooled down! I don't know which Vitesse this was, as they had a matched pair, saloon and convertible, both white with black stripe and sequential number plates.
  7. My late mums oldest friend, Lady Moynihan, with her '63 Vitesse 6. Passed to me after her death in 1991.
  8. Herald Estate, fit for purpose 1966. I would have just passed my test and took my mums dogs for a walk on the old disused airfield near our house in Suffolk. Mum bought it new in 1964.
  9. Not wired to anything at the moment, but they will get used. Probably rear fog, front fogs and ?
  10. Westminster Estate is a large beast. I thought I was seeing a Cambridge estate, then realised it was a bit bigger.
  11. Didn't manage to get a picture, but an Austin Westminster Estate (Farina shape) arrived. Rare, me-thinks.
  12. Very busy at Ardingly Autojumble, sun was shining, so well attended. 'Heep' behaved itself, and generated a few questions, like, "where's the back end gone?" or "what have you done to it?". Anyway, good to get out. A few other Triumphs there, along with a selection of other classics and strange creations.
  13. The weather seems set fair tomorrow here in Sussex. There's an Autojumble at Ardingly, so it will be roof off on the Herald pick-up and hopefully it will behave itself on the trip. Usually only used for tip runs!
  14. Roof spotlights usually linked through to handle inside for searching purposes.
  15. When rebuilding my Midge, I modified the replacement rear spring as per original instructions by removing 2 leaves. After lowering the rolling chassis to the ground, I placed 3 large barrels of water across the rear to replicate the weight of the coming plywood body. It wasn't till after the first test drive that I found the fitted spring was bottoming out. Swapped it out for an unmodified standard used 13/60 spring and all good. moral of story Wait and see!.
  16. We have always had two dogs, one older than the other. Replacement is always the result of the older dog passing on and the need for company for the bereft one. This cycle has been going on for over 25 years. Cats come and go also. Currently full board and lodging to two, brother and sister. Loss is always traumatic, for all parties.
  17. Back then, I was living on my converted Scottish MFV in Brighton Marina. Slept through it, but woken in the morning by the unearthly noise of all the yacht shrouds howling in the wind. Still managed to make it to work in Portslade, dodging the debris along the seafront road.
  18. I always seek out Trico blades, complete or refills. I swear by them, rather than at them....
  19. Anyone for 'Windham'.... Wymondham.
