  1. I came across that in our horsebox on a Saturday afternoon..... Missed our exit, needless to say.
  2. Knaves were removed with a large axe.....
  3. Santa Pod raceway back in the day was, (depending on direction) downwind of a maggot factory. So, what with the very basic toilet facilities, the smell of burnt and unburnt nitro fuel and burnt rubber, ground shaking top fuel and funny cars, a weekend visit was an overall assault on the senses.
  4. Also called 'lift the dot' fasteners. I had a mixture of both types on the hood of my Midge.
  5. can't set UNF or UNC rivnuts without the right mandrels. Not a problem for me..... Yet.
  6. I've got one of these. Works a treat. Metric only though. https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637722451/drill-powered-rivet-nut-adaptor
  7. May be worth a look. https://memfast.co.uk/shop/Vprod2.asp?cat=6138003713
  8. My old Mays converted 6 cyl Mk3 Ford Zodiac was a joy to listen to, 2.6 litre, triple SU's, Piper cam and 6 branch manifold... I really miss that car.
  9. Your bulkhead is interesting. I have modified an early 948 b/h to fit a later car, the main mod was to match it to the later pattern floor pans. This involved grafting a piece of a later b/h to fit. I also fitted a later type heater box as the early one was beyond saving. Apart from that, mine is a real 'bitsa'.,... Mk1 Vitesse chassis, bulkhead as above, 948 bonnet, modified 13/60 estate rear tub, unknown doors, 1500 with o/d box etc etc .
  10. Quirky? my first car was one of these. Reliant Regent 10cwt 'gown' body van. Fun while it lasted, not long....
  11. Our old Opel Record estate had that system. great for the rather heavy horse trailer that we had back then.
  12. Best old estate we had was Volvo 240. Before that an Opel Record estate. Both serious workhorses.
  13. My SIP has been serving me well for years. A replacement torch was needed a couple of years ago. I'm still with BOC for gas, £4.60 / month plus refill charge ( can't remember how much, but bottle usually lasts me a couple of years)
  14. I have a good selection of hole punches purchased at auto jumbles. perfect for gasket making.

    LPG

The LPG is converted to a gas from a liquid via a reducer (2nd photo). The gas is then fed to mixer plates at the carbs. So no liquid at carbs. The volume of gas is adjusted at the reducer to suit the engine. So no adjustments at the carbs. I had special mixer plates for the SU's and had to drill suitable mounting holes for the air filter bolts in the plates. The plates blocked off the air vents to the carbs, so I drilled relief holes. You can see the plate in the 1st photo. I have a 30 litre gas tank feeding via a solenoid to the reducer, a dash mounted switch / gauge selects petrol or LPG (another solenoid in the petrol line). The reducer needs a hot water supply to work efficiently, so extra plumbing needed. I always turned back to petrol when parking up, unless I was restarting with a warm engine.
  16. No hex at the handle end, but Wickes do a knock through screwdriver. I have just bought one to replace my previous one, lost on site... Hexagon shaft sometimes helps. https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-10mm-Soft-Grip-Slotted-Screwdriver---250mm/p/167307

    LPG

I have an LPG conversion on my Midge, 1500 spit engine with twin SU's. I did a DIY conversion back in 2002 and ran it with dual fuel until I sold the car in 2011. performance wasn't quite as good as petrol, but as I was doing 90 miles a day commute, I didn't begrudge it. It paid for itself in about 9 months. Having bought the car back in 2017 and subjected it to a complete rebuild (retaining the LPG set up) I have not been able to get it running successfully on the gas. I need some help.
  18. Returning to Sussex from Leighton Buzzard yesterday in our horsebox, we encountered the Hemel Hempstead version... Saturday afternoon with an expensive load on board (horse). Not the sort of vehicle to make quick moves in to join the 'cut and thrust' of stroppy shoppers. Only one thing for it, PUSH. Still took the wrong exit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Roundabout_(Hemel_Hempstead)
  19. Looks like a modern version of my old Moprod one.
  20. Equally surprised to find this fitted to my current restoration, a 1920's Atco Standard with a Villiers MkV1c 2 stroke.
  21. I went with blue detailed Cosmics, and a blue coach line.
