  1. Assuming you are a TSSC member you will find the booking form in January's Courier.
  2. Either that or they are optional extra given my 'viewing' of BMWs lately. Dick
  3. The Club shop sells them for less than £2. Dick
  4. Luke, Suggest you get yourself along to the East Sussex area meeting (not all TSSC members are regular forum users) and say hi to them, all being well you will be overwhelmed with practical help that will/may save you £££. Details are in the Area Contacts on the home page and it looks like they meet not far from Bexhill. Dick
  5. Colin, that really is tempting fate now you are 'resting' with only the effort of the keyboard to deal with! Dick
  6. John, well spotted should have typed 'obturation'! A fine establishment in 1974 on my Master Gunner's qualifying course, but only if you were of that persuasion. In those days we still wore full uniform with stiff collars, boots and black patent leather gaiters (presented on qualifying at the same time as a whistle on a chain (it's a gunnery drill thing!) and a pace stick. Deafness was normal, ear defenders were for wimps, and the noise level in the Wardroom bar horrendous!
  7. Gunnery Officer speaking and yes they do. The key is that they swell slightly when ignited; the breech block stops the round going 'backwards' and the detonation causes obduration which seals the case against the chamber wall and the shell leaves the barrel, in the case of a naval 4.52 gun at 2,350 ft per sec. The case quickly returns to size after firing thus allowing extraction and ejection. Dick
  8. Having been unable to find a usable replacement for my GT6 Mk1 I went down the aluminium route with http://www.alicool.co.uk/f-tanks-triumph.html. Product was a work of art that was made on ordering and only needed a bit of fettling on the horizontal mounting flange to fit my car. Would use them again if required. Dick
  9. Or for those who like something more gentle a Virgin's Thigh; rum (pick your colour!) and ginger ale. A gin and ginger beer is known as a Master Gunner, how do I know?.....
  10. A Google search will throw up information you may find useful, and I am aware of a ''tuned' Vitesse owner who is distinctly grumpy.
  11. Very common in the boating environment. My experience is I put a fuel preservative in my yacht's 4-stroke outboard fuel tank (25l) about March and because wind power is the prime mover very little used. After the boat is out of water, fuel into the GT6 and no problems.
  12. Paul is now likely to spend all day scratching head going 'what's he on about?'!
  13. I would add SpitBitz to Clive's list, but you will need to phone them as the web site listing is fairly limited.
  14. Fine if it is by The Rolling Stones.
  15. Gordon, Given where you are I would go and talk to a local sail maker he may be able to help. My son regularly sorts out similar issues on yacht spray hoods and LR tilts. Dick
  16. All is not completely lost as at least one firm still does it, and I can recommend their restoration course having attended one as part of the resettlement process leaving the RN. Watching racing XK120 panels being made in alloy was a joy; and the response to a question from somebody about 'filler' produced bemused looks. http://www.contourautocraft.co.uk/courses
  17. Or £59.99 on Lidl's own website direct.
  18. Try Mike Papworth (details in the back of The Courier) he is/was always looking for diffs and may be able to help.
  19. Angie sent out details first week in November for the 2018 event.
  20. Jack, Having restored mine from the brink here are a few pointers: There are manuals available which are a must, read the relevant section before you start. There is also a 'Guide to Restoration' the title of which eludes me for the moment. These are available through the Club shop, along with some mechanical parts and as far as suppliers I found Canley Classics (good website with lots of extra info) and James Paddock my preferred people for most things, Fitchetts for panels. Mechanical stuff is not the issue, just requires a bank balance plus a degree of skill which improves with time/skinned knuckles plus questions on here. Bodywork is the defining factor and yours looks to tick most of the boxes: bonnet, sills, screen frame but most particularly the roof. Panels are available but there is more to it than that, not least alignment. If it is made by a man it can be repaired by a man but you have to be realistic; however, if there is a emotional attachment then that overrides most things. Whereabouts are you because I am sure your, assuming you are a member, local TSSC group would come and give it a closer look and provide advice. Dick ps and reinforce Mike's comment about taking photos before you start!
  21. Second the recommendation for Dinitrol, durable even when used on a 4x4 used 'correctly'. It was satisfying when I rebuilt the GT6 and put the stuff in the sills to see it find the, until then, unseen tiny gaps between plug welds so the same should apply elsewhere; just do not scrimp when applying.
  22. Hate to sound ......but do you mean by the fan belt hence a mechanical pump?
  23. On 'proper' driving roads: Cream - Crossroads Free - Alright now Joe Cocker - Delta Lady Who (live) - Magic Bus Fleetwood Mac - Oh well John Fogerty or Tina Turner - Proud Mary Canned Heat - Going up the country ZZ Top - Gimme all your loving Chuck Berry - Johny be goode But when stuck on the M25 comng back from Duxford singing along with 'An evening with John Denver' to reduce the irritation level.
