  1. Two 'John D's; that could create some confusion let alone thread drift!
  2. TSSC Home Page and The Cars, you will find a buyers guide there.
  3. "with the intention of using it"; or making money but after COVID and the likely shortage of cash for many/myself I better try and get shot of it now says the cynic.
  4. Steady on Colin, not all of us! However, a rigging screw/turnbuckle will be A4 stainless and not A2 because of the salt water immersion, and a failure potentially means the mast coming down rather than the fan belt coming loose. Dick ps Just back from the boat; I avoid sailing on a weekend, leave that to the working classes.
  5. It makes eminent sense to bleed the whole system then you know for sure there is fresh fluid there and ticks the box before needing to change it as part of the service schedule. Dick
  6. As Colin say "whack it", tapping will just increase the irritation level!
  7. Not sure if there is Spitfire one but plenty of others and similar courtesy of Guy and Suzie Singleton (Spitfire & Bond Registers) at: http://www.classicrepro.co.uk/index.htm Dick
  8. Sure The Courier readers would also be interested. Dick
  9. If you change to 12mm then yes, but not a difficult job and then draw the new ones (Freelander?) in. A good upgrade as Pete says, and definitely if you go the alloy route; have had Revolutions for the past 15 years after wires, rather than minilites. Dick
  10. When I rebuilt my GT6 I used Stonechip as a base almost everywhere on the body except the 'glossy' topside. It has lasted well these past 15 years of use, particularly the floors, and is easy to touch up if required.
  11. I have exactly the same set-up and speakers as Colin and they work a treat; no problem hearing Cream/Bob Marley/ZZ Top etc and that is with a wheel barrow exhaust!
  12. You could also try giving SpitBitz at Wokingham a call http://www.spitbitz.co.uk/html/home.html Dick

    Head

Charlie, Apologies for 'Granny and sucking egg' moment but if there is no sign of damage to the gasket(s), poor/no compression across the board and milky oil did the head get tightened down in the correct sequence to the correct torque an then repeated to make sure no errors? Washers and nuts all sound? Dick
  14. Graham, the flaw in the logic is 'but why should/must I retire, it is ageist and it is my human right to work until I decide' and so on. Consequently people will claim their pension and still work and no job will be freed up!
  15. Tony, Cloth soaked in Jeyes Fluid is not to their liking, if you know where they are entering (tracks etc) it makes it easier to position the rags. This is some thread drift, but being as the boat is not in the water makes a change from re-plumbing the fuel lines on the GT6 in glorious weather! Dick
  16. Can I suggest 18" a bit excessive, easier to go down 8" then bend it flat towards where they approach from. They run to the fence, dig, come across the flat piece and depart. Worked for me doing the vermin control on a large rural school and some other properties. Dick
  17. Graham, Agree with that logic; if you do a 'tap' test with a knuckle the sound changes and it is is fairly easy to identify where the deadening needs to go as a priority. That was the approach I took on the floor pan under the seats.
  18. Colin, I have one fitted that came from Alicool (http://www.alicool.co.uk/f-tanks-triumph.html) and it is a work of art that is a pity to hide under the boards. They do not list one for a Herald but give them a call; very friendly bunch who also attend the Triumph & MG Stoneleigh spares bash. They would need a dimensional correct tank to work from and not cheap but if they saw a growing demand ...... Dick
  19. I would if I were you; every little helps!
  20. Shouldn't do; to us old Coventry lads 'the Massey' was only on the opposite side of the road (A45) from the 'Standard'! Dick
  21. Pete, apologies for the tardy reply. I think you are correct, despite the spare wheel being attached to the floor. There is a lot of 'plain' metal in the body panels along with a drum (fuel tank) that, if not full, certainly clangs when tapped. Dick
  22. Definitely worth a try. I had a heater leaking heater valve that all the usual culprits would not free up, including heat, despite the length of purchase applied; cautious of the later being too great as I have a spare manifold with the valve sheared off. Wrapped around the joint in a rag regularly soaked in vinegar for several days and it came out by hand.
  23. Graham, I certainly did but did not remove the aluminium fuel tank fitted last year; however I put some deadening on the base of that before fitting it. Interestingly the sound deadening in the boot area seemed to make a greater difference than that on the seat floors or bulkhead. Dick
  24. I have just fitted out the boot on mine, with the same exhaust, with 2mm Silentcoat and even after 35 years as a gunnery officer could tell the difference on an 'essential' journey! Dick
