  1. I would give Mike Papworth a ring/EMail, details in The Courier, and arrange to go and see him. A 10 min drive with him and he will establish what needs to be done, and there are none better to fix it. Dick

  9. Very widely used in the marine world with outboard motors that may/may not be used for some time. I put it in the remote tank for mine at the start of the season (Easter) and fuel is fine throughout the year until October, and that is leaving the vent cracked open slightly to avoid the tank over pressure in the heat.
  10. Bruce, I have an Alicool tank and also had an issue to start with until I found the fitting was for 5/16 and not 1/4 (Mk1); a size difference they were not then aware of. However, having then changed pipe size I had to try a couple of different tube nuts before finding one that worked. A long one with a pronounced neck at the end and a copper olive (Screwfix) worked fine. Best photo I could find courtesy of Moss.   11. Just measured a spare 3/8 tube nut and it's 20 tpi. I would support Colin's thoughts on trying to fit the old nut, but begs the question why you "cannot use the old set up" even if replacing with new parts?
  12. However, that assumes the new skin is fitted to exactly the same shape as the old (scrap) one which is seldom the case. From bitter experience I did it the way you are suggesting and then went on a re-settlement course on leaving the RN at Contour Autocraft (XK panel specialists) and following that several specialist body restorers have advised the same.   17. And on The Hard at Portsmouth. A little local/professional knowledge advice; if that was this weekend with the Spring tides I would give it's bottom a wash, that slipway can be covered with salt water, and is regularly so throughout the year. It may look dry but .... Dick

  19. An impact gun, if you have one, gets them started which is the difficult part. I have a recollection when restoring my GT6 that you can slide the wheel on back to front on the adapter, chock so it does not revolve and there is just enough room to get at the nuts. Dick
  20. Fully support Clive's comment above. A very useful, durable and long lasting finish on old iron marine fittings but not the most attractive when the rest of the car's paintwork shines. Dick
