  1. The "tuned" Vitesse owners story Is very interesting. Full of intrigue. Anyway, Tony can talk for England, and Just about everywhere else! His timescales can be very flexible as that is just him, and the way he works. I purchased a top notch GT6 gearbox from him last year at a very good price, the price has gone up quite a bit since then mind.
  2. Stag brakes direct fit under the bigger wheels, nothing else to change only issue Is price of a set of calipers, offset by the much cheaper discs.
  3. Superfelex bushes are usually yellow. Anyone can of course buy a pot of yellow polyurethane and make bushes, and some do, and they don't last long.
  4. I have 1500 centre sections at home that are 2 different diameters, and only fit their respective rear boxes. I think the aftermarket makers just made what's was easiest.
  5. Look for a 2 pack floor paint and primer and paint the new floor before anything touches it. you many struggle to get existing floor clean enough to paint.
  6. Laurence TR6 boots are only really accommodating of they original steel wheels, lots of the aftermarket wheels need you to either discard the board that goes over the wheel, or put it in blocks of wood (what has been done to mine) A standard steel wheel should be easy to get hold of, as lots of people go for alloy wheels, or bling wire wheels.
  7. Few nerve wrecking seconds, more like 2 minutes and I bottled out. That is why the ends now rattle and theoils pressure dips alarmingly when hot.
  8. Tried that John, flattened 3 fully charged batteries and had it jumped off a running car, plugs out, still would not pressurise. oil pumped back in the pressure switch hole, fully brimmed new filter. Everything I could think of. couple of minutes wit the drill sorts it. there is definitely something wrong with the pump, just need to get the engine out to see what.
  9. Past Parts in Bury st Edmunds.
  10. Pete, I have been doing it because my TR6 oil pump will not self prime after a filter change. No idea why, but the engine coming out to investigate is much closer after my attempts due to the damage I have done prior to realising there is a problem. once the pressure comes up for the first time never a problem until the next oil change. As for rebuilt engines, I am with Mr Gadgetman, I would do it just to make sure the pump works.
  11. Fully charged 18v Makita in reverse and it slows almost to a stop as the pressure suddenly builds up. I use a salvaged PI dissy drive shaft as it is obviously designed to engage on the oil pump
  12. Take the wheels off, undo the 3 flanges, and thenthe 4 long bolts.undo the rear mount nuts. lever the 2 subframes down and the extension will drop out. to refit push one side in first and then lever subframes down and push diff into place
  13. There are plenty of classic resto guys out there, but they are booked solid far ahead if they are good. and they can just concentrate on big money stuff like Jags etc to make a living, none would make a living from Triumphs unless they are some TR's. But they can charge good money as their numbers are dropping and not being replaced. Lots of the Triumph specialists sub contract out the body work to smaller companies and do the mechanics themselves I think. I know of a welder who is about £10 an hour, but the waiting list is very long, and you have to wait for an opportunity to get considered for the waiting list let alone get the work done. I have a tame bodywork guy that fits my budget, but I tend to be rescuing basket cases and get them Road-worthy rather than top notch.
  14. I have changed the diff seal on a couple of cars leaving the nose extension in place, they have started leaking again soon afterwards. i think it is down to the wiggling trying to get the diff back in place damages the seal. it only takes an extra 5 mins to take the whole diff Assembly out with the extension attached and that way it can be more easily worked on and the extension can be carefully fitted on the bench.
  15. That seal does not look quite the same as the one that came with my hardtop equipped Spitfire
  16. There are a number of members round Cambs that know big saloons. Get yourself along to meet, or head East to the Suffolk meet. With the team Torpedo sticker I wonder if it has been round Europe full of Americans. If so the mechanics should still be good.
  17. I use Bilt-Hamber wax in Spray cans. Brown or clear. Seems to bomexactly what it says on the tin
  18. Sent you an email of info from factory manual for 1500 Toledo, my library doesn't go as new as the Spitfire
  19. Differences between TC and S are not too much, and if it is bodily good, that far outweighs everything else! big Saloons ( and Estates) hide rot incredibly well, and by the time it I see really noticeable it may well be too late. I would be straight off to look at that TC if I wanted one. Fit a rev counter, a set of alloys and you almost have an S. May need a cam or compression upgrade, some had same engine as the S. cheers
  20. If you are interested in more info on the one near me, send me an email and I will send you his contact details.
  21. Not advertised anywhere yet. Belongs to the guy who services my "modern". Is in Colchester. H fancies a 2000 as a replacement. I wonder if that Valencia car is better than it looks in photos, does not seem to have been tarted up for sale.
  22. Now relisted. looks a fairly original car to me, price not too far out, but needs a good look. seems I am alone in that... I know of a better one locally to me ( but not Cornwall!) that is about £4K slightly later Mk4.
  23. best bet for a 2.5 is to make a plate that bolts to the drivers side engine mount casting (obviously not used on a big saloon) i cut one from an old backplate that had got bent after being used a few times to mount them longways.
  24. There is a 4.875 diff available, but I would not expect it to last behind a 2 litre. Something sounds fishy about the restoration,, I wonder if they just dropped the 6-cyl into a 948 Herald. Especially as you say it now has Herald brakes, hopefully not drums at the frnot. If you have a friendly local garage they may plug it into their MOT exhaust tester as that will have a RPM readout that ought to be pretty accurate.
  25. In years gone by the great unwashed didn't always get a look in as the club members booked the full site out. It is very popular.
