  1. Iv'e used the Wilko stuff for a few years and it's always held good oil pressure (slightly better than a beez kneez oil, I tried!). I think I read that it was a bit low on zzzzd's though?. Probably fine in normal use?. Are your engine mounts causing a problem?. Mine have looked a bit dodgy for years, though still doing the job. Repro ones have a bad name I think?. Same with susp bushes. Mine looked knackered, (bulging at the ends), though if originals, are often fine for years where it matters (found this out after I replaced with Poly's). Just mentioning, as I think you are on a budget?. Dave
  2. thanks everyone. Pete. Not sure "what's easy" on Lucas. "not easy" on Delco. Cheers, Dave
  3. Hi. Wondering if these could do with replacing (Lucas 22D6). The cam doesn't quite return when it's moved by hand (maybe by about 1.5mm at tip of rotor arm), also any issues I have with pinking, are at higher revs, when accelerating, rather than low revs under load. Wondering if weak springs are causing it to advance too quickly/too much?. Any help great, thanks. Dave
  4. Thanks everyone. Will leave the tube alone, rather than disturb any end fittings, I think. Dave
  5. Thanks everyone. I did wonder Johny, about the choke, as car starts well and maybe I could give a bit more cam gap so it will start with lower revs. Dave
  6. Hi. and thanks. It's a jauger gauge. Have pressure of 25 idle/near 60 at 2000 revs, even on very hot days, so that seems good. It does rattle on start up, even later in the day a bit sometimes (have a Mann filter, tilted downwards). As it has apparently good pressure, then maybe, ignore, as some very knowledgeable/experienced folk have suggested, or could one or two bearings be suffering. No facilities to remove engine and work on it, So could maybe? remove Sump (Vitesse) in situ and replace shells, though prefer not to if it's likely not a issue. thanks, Dave
  7. Hi. Wondering how accurate these generally are, and if not, how much maybe are they likely to/could be out?. Also, my plastic feed tube has sections of no oil. Does this affect the reading?. Any help great, thanks. Dave
  8. Iv'e got the dark grey Minilites and I think they really suit my gunmetal Vitesse. I think if they did a mid grey it could suit a lot of cars.
  9. Rim protectors. They do seem an idea, especially as I will be changing from 185's to 165's and imagine the rims will be more exposed. Any idea what to use for DIY Pete. Dave
  10. My water temp gauge never goes over 1/4 when moving in winter (have a bit of card in front of rad to boost this heat in winter). Idling for long periods will always raise the needle about double (Vitesse, for more prone to heat accumulation). The gauge may not be that accurate?. I have found a basic test of water temp, is to grip the top hose and it's hot and just bearable then about right. this is subjective, though try on other cars hoses to get an idea. Thanks Dave
  11. Hi. Been tempted by the Trakrite, though no level floor to work from (have to do work in the street), though when car up on kerb it looks pretty level. Would this be ok just for tracking, rather than camber please?. Thanks, Dave
  12. I use Waxoil, thinned down with white spirit and heated up to aid spraying. I also mix a bit of engine oil with it, so it doesn't dry as fast Dave
  13. Very interesting. Thanks a lot for your response's. Dave
  14. Hi. Don't know much about them. I know they measure BHP. Do they accurately determine timing throughout the revs range and fuel mixture and what may be affecting this , eg dizzy/carb wear. Can they measure whats happening in individual cylinders. Any help great, thanks. Dave
  15. couple of questions please 68. Did you need a drill stand or something, to drill out accurately for the carb spindles. Also, are those some sort of grub screws to clamp the spindles. Thanks, Dave
  16. no room in the tank to put a good bit of higher RON in. Tesco do a 99. An octane booster additive, would help I imagine Some dizzy's have a vernier gauge marked Adv/Ret by the adjusting wheel. Try 10 clicks retard to start with and see how it goes. Dizzy easy to adjust if not. Its a clamp at the bottom, anti clockwise to retard. Try a few about 5 degrees to start with. Good luck, dave
  17. I guess you don't want to fit the £1.00 odd, plastic ones.
  18. A lot of clutch slipping to get moving with the boat?.
  19. It's interesting. I think Nick once mentioned, that his old Vitesse engine had kept to 16,thou of thrust play for it's past 30,000 miles of hard'ish driving (please correct me if I'm wrong Nick) and yet Doug's thrust washer had dropped out after 6 years. Dave
  20. Yes. looks a good bet that one. Good luck. I think these cars (even good ones) are always a bit of ongoing expense at least, especially with quality of a lot of repro parts. Eg, replaced the boot seal about 3 years ago and it's starting to split. Dave
  21. Unless that code is genuine, and it's been piratly stamped?.
  22. Hi. Thought this may be the best part of forum for this. It's on for Buy it now for around £7, or make an offer, in good nick apparently (no personal connection to ad). dave
  23. Hi. If a MOT exempt vehicle is MOT'd, then does it go onto DVLC computer and you receive a certificate, or is it unofficial? please. Dave
  24. I like the look of the red one. Maybe unbutchered/not bodged?, unlike a lot over years. I would just T cut and polish and spruce up a bit to keep original and show/reflect it's previous life. Of course, it does need a proper look at.
  25. Hi. Just fitted a new one. Used Blue hylomar as a sealant. Do you just tighten cover until the cork compresses a couple of mm, as it's quite chunky please?. Thanks, Dave
