  1. That's the pass we took at the beginning of June, it is fantastic. Did you note the height of the poles at the side of the road, shows you how deep snow is in winter. When we did it on the Guzzi snow was that deep, completely changed the landscape. Enjoy Andorra, if you can, take it easy in the shops. When we are in that area we stay at the Paradore in La Seu d'Urgell.
  2. You're not in the Paradore by any chance are you? The view looks familiar from memory, we were there 1st to 3rd June. Depending on your route you will have passed the bar of 2000 metres. Good food in the Paradore restaurant. The town its self was badly damaged a few years ago by major flooding but is sorted now. The first time we stayed there must have been in the mid 80s, before we left the UK, and RODE (Moto Guzzi Spada) from Surrey and crossed the Pyrenees on either the 2nd or 3rd April. Big mistake overtaking snow plough . As I sais to Mrs Me - Michelin map shows the pass as being open from 1st of April, I just wanted to go over the pas for the view. Coming down towards Vielha I remember seeing a car parked pointing towards the pass with the driver fitting snow chains. He looked at us on the bike, looked at what he was doing then looked at his chains again. No doubt you'll be hitting the Rosada again this evening.
  3. Rich - lean- rich-lean-rich-lean. That about sums up a day's driving in the Pyrenees then? In one day at the beginning of June we started at Vielha at 2080 metres finishing near Bordeaux at around 80 metres. Never mind the mixture for the car, enjoy the scenery and pay attention to your own 'mixture" intake.
  4. I'm a tinto man myself, enjoy but be wary of the effects! ?
  5. Same hotel we used, very handy for sightseeing and eating/drinking ☺
  6. When we were there 2 years ago we had a room in the hotel in the background of your photo with a view up the street where the Spitfire is parked. Good tapas places there, don't be thrown by what they look like from the outside. Look out for locals eating in them - the best recommendation you can get - shows it's not a tourist trap. Eat, drink & be merry!
  7. So on that basis life is a bodge?
  8. It's a pity they hadn't used Blu Tack, they would have been easier to remove
  9. My 1968 13/60 has its original GE engine, it has been rebuilt in the recent past, and with the standard carb is nippy enough. It's a convertible and used for enjoyment not performance but easily keeps pace with local traffic & even surprises some drivers when I overtake them. It's happy cruising speed is between 90 & 100 - Kph that is.
  10. Mrs Me collects tattoos on her travels, Maple leaf incorporating Canadian flag (Canada of course), the stars from the Australian flag, turtle, Marquis islands, etc. She is now planning her trip to finish off the Latin American countries so I suggested a coca leaf Unfortunately we were carrying so much stuff (poor excuse) to fit into the Herald so had to take the modern, Yeti. It did feel at home above the snow line though. We were away 24 days so needed room for all the cigars, wine, anchovies and turon that one collects along the route. Just cross your fingers that the weather is clear for the views and enjoy.
  11. We got back last week from a trip to Spain & the Pyrenees. The highest point we got to was 2080 metres. Great weather, great roads. I hope you get to enjoy it as much as we did, we always enjoy do. We did Pamplona last year, no bull running but Mrs Me got a tatoo of a bull done on the main bull running street ?
  12. Around here it is quite common when there is a party of some kind for someone to bring a bottle of golden coloured liquid in a bottle that originally had something else in. Not a sample of ' you know what' but home made Calvados. Last week was true to form a communion celebration with some friends. The quality varies from - would blow the cyclinder of my Herald to pure nectar. When I asked the owner or the recycled Pastis bottle how old it was he wasn' t sure but at least 20 years. I miss the small of the travelling stil in the autumn as I pass certain neighbours. Yes it was legal. ???
  13. Caen is a good starting point for LeMans. I would add to the comments about speed bumps. France has started to install what we call "plateaux". Steepish beginning then several metres flat with the same gradient off. There is a Euro norm for them but quite a few of the early ones don't meet it in my opinion. They are in towns/cities, they have to be within a "50" zone and are always proceeded by a "30" limit sign, even at 30 some can give a jolt! 30 & 50 are in KPH, of course. Good luck
  14. Should be bottled and sold as an after shave. ’Herald Heaven' or 'Vitesse Vitality' or maybe 'GT sex'
  15. The speedo on my 13/60 has been recalbrated by a previous owner and using GPS as a comparison it is as accurate as my modern so they can be adjusted to read correctly. How it was done I have no idea. Mind you sometimes it does fluctuate a bit at 60 ish.
  16. I agree, furry dice - no class at all. On the other hand I have an Esso tiger tail hanging from the rear view mirror and that IS classy
  17. I'm another voter for the don't worry too much party. I leave mine over winter, with the ocasional starts to get rid of the damp and just to hear the engine. I try not to leave it with too much petrol in and just add fresh in spring. If you do want to recycle the old stuff put it in the mower, if gou have a petrol one of course.

Tried ye CT forum a few minutes ago - no workie, biggy problems
  19. Logically a second filter would only catch any debris that gets into the system after the pump, I can't see there being much risk of that. Also to be of any benefit it would have to have a finer mesh than the first to trap anything missed by the first. Are there filters with differnt filter densities? I have not come across anysite mentioning differnt specifications. I have one just before he pump and think it is all needed.
  20. Welcome to the forum, from another Chris living in France - in my case a genuine "Chris" from England. Your English is more than fine, just don't start typing in Ch'ti as nobody will understand it Definitely want to see photos.

    Car SOS

Apart from electronic ignition I don't know what any of the others are I learnt to drive in a Herald 13/60 in 1970 so this is my reference point for a car, it was modern it had a heater!

    Car SOS

Yes it is a very personal definition of what is 'acceptable' when 'restoring' a classic. In my case I have stuck with the dynamo rather than go for an alternator, have LED warning lights in the dials but standard bulbs elsewhere, fitted electronic ignition inside the distributor to retain the look of the period. 'Upgraded' the fan from the metal 4 blade to the 'export' plastic 7 blade one - well the car is now exported to Normandy. Other than that, well I doubt I would do anything. Yes overdrive could be an advantage or spitfire cam, start of the slippery slope. I saw, somewhere on the net, a Stag that has been fitted with a Peugeot diesel engine, YIKES! OK so quite a few Stags have the Rover V8 fitted for reasons we all know but a modern diesel? In the end it is each to their own and as long as the cars are kept on the road and enjoyed that is the most important point. A V12 E type (British plates) went through my village a couple of days ago, what a wonderful burble it was. The thought that someone would put a 4 cylinder diesel in on the grounds that is was more reliable, less pollution and more economical would not pass muster, I hope.
