  1. The politicians didn't even know what they were letting the country in for. It hasn't changed they still don't know. Although I live in france & have French nationality (as well as British) I do keep a watch on the "progress", even to the point of having signed up to get all the notifications of every document issued, plans put in place or on standby etc including advice for UK nationals living in the various EU countries. Every time there has been one for Brits in France the info has been the same as always, with just a comment about how it might or might not change in the future. Does anyone know how much it is costing to do all this pre Brxit stuff? I get occasional updates on the sums spent on legal advice & communication fees. Hundreds of thousands at a time. Recently saw that the Gouv. had given out 3 contracts to shiping companies in case they are needed to increase the number of ferries across the channel. the total was £140 million. One of the contracts for £14 million went to Seaborne. A shipping company with no experience in lorry traffic, they don't have any suitable boats and are "planning" to put in place by mid March (i.e. they have nothing set up at present) to use Oostende and Ramsgate. Two ports that haven't done any cross channel shipping for around 4 years. Therefore no staff, equipment not serviced and acess not dredged. Heaven help us all... "We're all doomed" as the man said. My nearest cross channel ferry port, Ouistreham, does 3 crossings per day but have said that should there be no deal the extra delays in loading and unloading will reduce this to 2 per day. There are no winners with Brexit only various degrees of losers. Rant over, normal service can now resume. Why should I even care? I have French nationality am completely in the system (I'm even a local councillor) so no worries there. Oh, exchange rate! S**t, Both my State and private pensions have dropped in Euros since the referendum. I for one will be glad when it is all over and things settle down.
  2. Mine is an original, a friend in my local car club spotted some on a French site as part of an old garage clearing out. In all 4 of us in the club bought one. Yes a bit pricey but what the heck.... New and still in packaging
  3. Maybe we need to have a vote about "should we have a vote" Before that could even happen we need to vote about what the question will be. Anyway, back to the issue . . . Additives...... I've got one of those Esso tiger tails hanging on the rear view mirror and yes it does work. Although i'm not sure what it is supposed to do I am convinced that it does work, so there!
  4. I also did it back in the day in a Hillman Imp also several times for fun on a Triumph 650cc. When you are born and brought up in Derbyshire you don't need the 'flat'. Anything less than 1 in 5 counted as flat. Seeing these videos brought back fond memories. Thanks for posting.
  5. My Yeti has this type of system so it is "sort of" switchable. Also, it doesn't do it every time either - if electronics think it needs to stay on to keep car cool/hot, charge battery, make coffee or what ever . . . . Where I live and my normal routes it is very rare it is used. The first time I drove a car with SS was a hired Passat automatic, the first time I stopped was at pedestrian lights so the engine cut out. PANIC! took my a second, ok 2 seconds, to realise what it was!
  6. In that case I'm surprised he posts to the UK
  7. Interesting debate on modern version versus traditional item. Much in the style of points v electronic or mechanical fan v electric. As far as this debate goes on the brake issue I'll carry on as normal - not using brakes. Saves all this worry. 🙈
  8. I learnt to drive in one as well, back in 1971, and don't recall having this problem. Must have been due to wearing winkle pickers.
  9. I have done it a few times in my 13/60, I now think about what shoes to wear when driving it and pick a pair as narrow as possible. It is definitely unsettling when it happens. 😨 I have also wondered about getting the accelerator / brake pedal bent to increase the gap
  10. Hi Roger, I'll try and sent a PM
  11. A very nice looking example 👏 I love that version of the steering wheel and would love one for my 13/60
  12. Mobile whiskey maker? Great idea!
  13. Going to the dentist is better than Brexit. My main interest is centred on pension increases for retired Ex Brits in the EU and taxes on imports of Scotch and Irish Whisk(e)y 🍷
  14. In the little handbook for my 13/60 where it gives details of service intervals it only mentions toping up the level not changing the fluid (unless I've missedit somewhere), so back in the day did owners change brake fluid regularly or not?
  15. I do. I keep them locked up in a drawer out of harms way.
  16. In my humble 13/60 with Accuspark I run with BP6ES and a bog standard black coil with no problems at all. To be honest if the plugs were very bad and it wasn't due to a simple over rich mixture I would just change them. P.S. Richard : Why open the gaps more than normal?
  17. You are right, the numbers in MPH are much larger on the dial than Kph. "But Monsieur le gendarme, the readings only go to 100 so I couldn't possibly have been speeding" Not to be tried on a 'N' road where the limit is now 80. I'm sure quite a few French who look at the dial assume the numbers DO relate to Kph! In passing, the origin of the term Gendarme comes from Gens d'arme, for obvious reasons. In passing a second time, American police cars are black & white because in the dim and distant past they tested some French police cars which at the time were . . . Noir et blanc.
  18. Don't forget to remove it before running the car ?
  19. Modern fuel going off, this is mentioned every now and then. Personally I have not had any problems with the car not being used much over winter, there are also 2 schools of thought about having the tank empty(ish) or full(ish). I don't do either I leave it as is. Cats & mice? We have 4 cats and the only problems we have with mice is because a cat brings a live one home, puts it down while it eats some biscuits and then looks surprised the mouse has wandered off. After that it is "hunt the mouse" time for all . . . .
  20. My covertible lives outside in winter under a suitable car cover. I leave it in neutral with handbrake off. Every couple of weeks I at least start it and run it until warms up a bit and move it back and forth to rotate wheels. The battery gets a charge up from time to time. Windows are left slightly open to allow air to circulate and now that the heater works I will leave it in the on position. As I live in a rural village I now have a "gizmo" that gives out an ultrasonic beep at random times to keep little creatures away who might like a meal of electric cables etc. I have no idea if it does any good but I feel better for it. I bought it last year after a visit to my local mechanic for a chat and he was working on a modern that had been left unused for a few winter months and a good part of the wiring under the bonnet had been eaten.
  21. I'll drink to that, if nobody disagrees. ☕ sorry wrong drink ?
  22. It could do as there might be customs checks. In theory I should be able to buy without UK VAT being charged, but would have French VAT to pay at this end. Oh what fun we shall have! You lot might even get duty free shops again, that will give an incentive to visit Le Mans.
  23. Sorry should have been BreaD - been using the corkscrew again ?
  24. In a few days? When I order from a UK supplier it takes a week to get to Normandy. A kit should now be a corkscrew ( Britain seens to have gone to screw top wine bottles in a big way), botle opener and knife to cut breag and cheese with ?
